I couldn't have watched this video at a better time. I felt like we had the same story. I'm 25 too and felt like my years had just passed and this year I've decided to resign and fully venture into being my own boss. Lately I've been so confused about this decision and have been feeling so stuck and when I heard your video I didn't feel so alone anymore and it didn't feel all that scary. Thank you!!
The obsession of young generation with entrepreneurship and quitting their "9-to-5" is largely due to survivorship bias (btw I really can’t stand the term "9-to-5" because it’s so misleading. There are plenty of 9 to 5s that pay way more than a lot of businesses would do and offer more flexibility as well). All we hear and see on social media is success stories of those who quit their 9-5. We never hear the failure stories for obvious reasons: 1) Those who experience financial failure often do not share their stories because their financial struggles leave them in a difficult or vulnerable position. They may lack the resources, confidence, or platform to openly discuss their failure, or they might fear judgment, shame, or further financial repercussions. As a result, their experiences and lessons go untold. 2) Success stories get more attention because they’re inspiring, feel good, and get shared easily, while failure stories often seem negative and don't grab as much engagement on social media.
@@greymindedguy hey! Not bashing 9-5s at all, I was actually really comfortable in mine but I’ve always wanted to work for myself. I agree though, it’s rare we see failure, that’s why I’m going to be documenting the process of building my business and the lessons I learn along the way. Personally, I also wouldn’t have quit unless I was fairly confident that the business would work- a calculated risk if you will 😊
Hi I am wondering how did you land the job you had? I am currently looking for a remote role with a such flexibility and your ex job is basically a dream job of mine haha
Hey lovely! If you’re interested in marketing and UK-based, a lot of the roles are quite flexible, with many of them being fully remote or hybrid. My first role after uni was at a local agency, which I got into without any marketing experience and was office-based, but after I got experience there I started looking nationally, both my second and third role were remote, and for the second one I only had to be in the office once per month. I specialise in digital PR and found my previous roles through LinkedIn and connecting with recruiters in the marketing space, if you’re not interested in marketing, a lot of these agencies also have other roles in HR, office management, finance etc. hope this helps 🫶
