I love this project, it shows beginners that you don't have to go out and spend a lot. It also helped me learn the techniques easier when there is no worry about a color scheme, I find myself spending too much time deciding which color should go next ( I have always been a simple black n' white gal) 😉 Thank you again!
Beautiful piece, this one caught my eye because it was only black and white, giving it a striking look, also liked the pearl white top dots. Well done and thank you for sharing your process.
Thank you so much Deana. I love the black and white too. You can totally change this up by adding different color Top Dots instead of the Pearl. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the BEST tutorial, you were thoughtful enough to show (VERY) close to you canvas to see EXACTLY how you spaced the dots. Also you mentioned cleaning the dotting tool ,and the size you were using and that our tools my be slightly different. TFS
This reminds me of the crocheted doilies my mother used to crochet when I was a child. Most of work was done in pure white. I've just discovered Mandala Dot Painting and I can hardly wait to get started. I figured I should practice using the tools and get the feel for them before actually using a canvas so I'll be using them on my multi-media book that I've been learning to paint with acrylics in. You make it look so easy and your instructions are so clear. Thank you.
Helen, thanks so much for watching. Yes, these look like the doilies my Grammie taught me to make. I love the look. Practicing in your multimedia book is a great idea. When I teach we practice on heavy card stock. It builds confidence without the pressure of "ruining" a canvas. Hope you love this style of painting. Thanks again for watching! 💚
Up until today I have been practicing just a few of the techniques in this video, I decided that I would start from the beginning and go all the way thru no matter if my design was perfectly centered or not. I am such a perfectionist that I would always scrap what I was working on. I resisted that urge and to my surprise, I made it thru and just corrected errors as I went and it is not perfect by any means but I really like how it turned out.
You've made such an important point! The urge to walk away from the imperfect is so strong. I'm so glad you kept at it. Not painting is perfect but you have a beautiful piece of art you created! Thanks so much for sharing that.
Margareth, I love color too! I was getting quite a few comments about struggles with color so thought I would do all white. I like how it turned out and am glad you do too. Hope you make one. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!
Thank you Sue. It's fun to use a variety of tools. I particularly like these as they're so colorful. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
This looks like something i could do. I’d like to try it on a dark blue background. Also, you have a very soothing voice, between your voiceover and the visual effect of the dots the video had a very zen-like vibe.
Theresa, thank you for your kind words. A dark blue background would be so lovely. I'm glad you got a zen-like vibe as this style of painting can be very meditative. Get some tea (or beverage of your choice), maybe some music and paint! I'd love to see what you create! 💚
Hi Marie: Your painting is unique and beautiful. I loved that you did it in one colour!! I have it drying now so that I can put on top dots. Thank you so much for your tutorials.
This was so wonderful to watch you paint this absolutely Beautiful Mandala! Love your voice (very soothing) and your creativity. I can't wait to go find some black 5x5 canvas' and paint it in white. Thank you - I look forward to many more of your tutorial's!
I loved doing this with you and it was so relaxing because of it being one color. Your teaching is great! Could you repeat this in a larger size please and tell us what tools to use?
Thank you. I just followed along and made this mandala with you. I sure wish mine looked as good as yours. I guess it is not too bad since I am still new at this. my freehanded petals leave a lot to be desired. LOL
I was so happy to see this new video on dottilism. This is stunning, the white dots on black canvas panel! Do you think of the designs in your mind, or do you have a book you go to? TFS ;)
Hi Nancy, glad you liked this project. I create my own patterns. I have an iPad that I use and draw on and then transfer to a canvas or other. Because use the iPad I can make patterns available to others. If interested, check out my Etsy store for a couple of patterns, this one included. Here's the link, it's also in the description of the video. Just copy/paste tinyurl.com/ybojmvgc Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Swarovski's would be beautiful. On this one I added glitter paint which gave it a bit of bling. Hard to see in the video but just right in person. Thanks for watching!
Cool. :) You can't go wrong with glitter.... well you can obviously but you know what I mean. :D But Bling is awesome. :D I love opalescent and pearl paints too!
Thanks Mary! I use a chalk paint to base coat the canvas. Two thin coats (I thin the paint with a few drops of water) are better than a thick coat. The white lines are easy to remove if you use a chalk pencil. I try brushing it off with a dry paper towel first and if it doesn't come off then I use a damp cotton swab and it comes right off!
HI!!!! So OMG I finally mad something that looks pretty!!!!! HAHAH maybe it was the all white? I was guessing on dot size as I use the rods not the hooks..So awesome. If I post on Social Media do I tag you for the design credit?
Do you leave the white chalk pencil on or do you wipe it off. I made one that was pre-drawn with pencil and I couldn't erase it, I thought it would do harm to the actual piece. Just interested to find out what you normally? And if you do wipe it off what do you use?
Hi Angela. I use a chalk pencil that comes off with water after the paint is dry with a damp cotton swab. Here's a link to the specific one I use but there are others, look for water soluble. You can find these pencils at local art stores also. amzn.to/2SBvnB5
Thank you Cynthia. You can't see it very well in the photo but I did the top dots in pearl and it was so beautiful. I think if you did the whole thing in pearl it would be WOW! Hope you do try it out and thanks for watching.
This is probably a stupid question but what is a grid I'm a beginner and I'm trying my hardest to learn I'm having trouble with my stencils the ones that I bought have wide lines can't seem to get them lined when I'm dotting and I'm practicing on cardboard the Thin kind what would you suggest to practice on thank you I just love your videos beautiful work
Hi Marcia, I would make sure I have enough paint on my tool and that it is not too thick. You can thin the paint with the tiniest bit of water. Don't give up. Keep practicing!
Love thé black and White Nice job
Oh, I sure liked it although I’m a colour person.😀I liked the perl dots. Although I’m a beginner I’m going to try this one. Thank You for sharing👍🙏

Thank you! I like the black and white also. It does take some pressure off. Thanks for watching.
I finished a big one for my hubby's birthday, then I added neon dots on top for our blacklight. Boy does it pop!
I so appreciate the corner dotting. Perfect to finish off a project.
Thank you so much. I appreciate you watching the videos. It's always fun to finish the corners and not go overboard. 🙂
Very helpful video thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
I do love this pattern- and the single white color- who would have thought it would turn out so classy looking with the single color. Great work!
This will be my first mandala. One color should help me. I am not sure how to choose the proper size dot but giving it a try.
Beautiful piece, this one caught my eye because it was only black and white, giving it a striking look, also liked the pearl white top dots. Well done and thank you for sharing your process.

I’m a newbie and your instruction for this tutorial is easy to follow. The pattern is beautiful and will be my first mandala.

So pretty!! Really enjoyed watching you make this one. And again, I love that you use the crochet hooks. Thank you so much!!! 😊

Thank you Joyce. Takes a little practice is all. Thanks so much for watching!
Oh my word I should have watched a little bit more than I would have known what the grid was this answered one of my questions
🙂
Does the white pencil marks come off easily?
If you use a chalk or water soluble pencil it usually comes off easily with a damp cotton swab.

That's really awesome! Also, I love how clear and close up you get with your video. Easy to see what you're doing.
Thanks Nancy. I'm still working on the camera angle! :)
beautiful! a suggestion. Add some Swarovski crystals on top of some of the dots for extra sparkle. It is really pretty!

gorgeous. how do you prep your canvas and do you remove the white lines that are visible after the painting is done. thanks so much
Thanks Mary! I use a chalk paint to base coat the canvas. Two thin coats (I thin the paint with a few drops of water) are better than a thick coat. Love this winter theme, I think I may try this with a white pearl paint! Thank you, love your designs! ❤️
Thank you Cynthia. You can't see it very well in the photo but I did the top dots in pearl and it was so beautiful. I think if you did the whole thing in pearl it would be WOW! Hope you do try it out and thanks for watching.
Gorgeous

I like practicing on card stock. It comes in so many colors and is inexpensive. It's a good surface for practice.
nice, but are you going to make anymore polymer clay jewelry tutorials? really enjoyed seeing ur jewelry!
Hi Lupe, I do have a couple of polymer clay projects in the works. Glad you like them. Thanks for watching.
So when I walk the dots with that same dot tool, I can only do about 3 dots and I have no paint left to keep going! What am I doing wring?
Hi Marcia, I would make sure I have enough paint on my tool and that it is not too thick. You can thin the paint with the tiniest bit of water. Don't give up. Keep practicing!
