Think about it, getting in at West Virginia right now is going to be fun-- he's going to have complete control of a brand new defense and have as much money as he wants to bring in exactly the players he wants and work with his old buddy Rich Rodriguez. I am Nebraska football fan since the 80s so have seen the highs and lows. I have always followed OU as well and wished they would succeed. But you are following what Nebraska did back in the early 2000s so I don’t want to worry you. But OU is in a crossroads right now! OU can’t get too far behind, but if the correct moves are not made quickly soon mediocrity can set in.
OU has now had a losing record 2 out of last 3 years so it feels like when we brought in Bill Callahan and he had 2 good years and 2 losing years. Then suddenly we had fallen so low we are still trying to get back up. I know how fast a team can fall. I also know how hard it can be to get back up quickly. Now since you are in the SEC it will get even tougher! So good luck to you all! But OU athletic director and Brent will have to make very smart decisions quickly.

I heard on another podcast that Zac wants to run his own defense, with BV, it's his way or the highway. Another point that was brought up, the SEC pressure cooker environment is the highest stress level in the NCAA, WVA isn't near that level so Zac won't have that pressure anymore. One more thing Zac, if IF but WHEN one of your hot shot assistant coaches bolts for somewhere else, you'll see what this feels like.

Things must be much worse internally than we ever imagined. I imagine that JC was not willing to pony up on a guaranteed deal knowing that he may need to can and pay off the entire staff in 2025. Brent and the administration need to get their act together. JC and Harroz need to be held accountable because, ultimately, this is their shit show. The fans can’t fix this mess, only JC and Harroz can. The fans can only express their dissatisfaction with the obvious problems that they seem to be oblivious to. Who is going to be the interim coach? Doesn’t seem to be anyone on staff remotely qualified, which in itself is a telling problem. Is Bob coming back as interim? What a cluster. We made it through the decade of the 90’s, which was a ten year period of complete irrelevance. All these people with their hair on fire need to calm the f*ck down! This is no where close to as bad as it was back then. We had an asinine amount of injuries this year not to mention a brutal schedule, which gets even tougher next year, and untested first year starters at quarterback. Anyone who thought this year was going to be anything better than what it was needs to check themselves into a mental health facility. And next year isn’t going to be much better either. The schedule guarantees that. Losing Alley sucks, no doubt. But there are plenty of great defensive coaches out there who will love a chance to coach at Oklahoma. This is Venables’ wheel house. He’ll find somebody good. People just need to relax! This move to the SEC was a stupid move from the outset. I said it when it was announced and I still believe it now. But we are where we are. The only option now is to fight through this down period and make things better in the future. If we can survive the 90’s don’t tell me three years ends the program! That’s total bullsh*t! I still like Venables and believe he will be a good head coach ultimately. This is the era of instant gratification or blow the whole damn thing up! It’s pathetic and people need to be better and stop with this child like outlook on everything. Nothing in the real world works like that. It doesn’t work that way in college football either.

It's a huge overreaction. The D needed BV's players. He has them now. Sure ZA was good, but he's not the only defensive talent in the CFB game. His secondary at OU was serviceable at best. When our defense began to break down in games we lost, it was the DB's that got burned. Isn't that ZA's group? We'll get a very good DC even if it's in house. I agree with you about the season. All the expectation was centered around an unproven 2nd year QB. And we moved into the best conference with the best defenses. We were bound to fail. My only gripe was that BV still struggled as a HC. We'll see how 2025 shakes out but we'll pretty much know by the 4th or 5th game if BV deserves to stick around. Even if he does win 8 games OU shouldn't start giving him an extension. We need to see at least 3 years of 8 win minimum seasons and an SEC challenger and at least 1 CFB playoff appearance. As of right now that seems unsurmountable, but let's just see before we give up on BV.

Zac Alley wants to be a head coach at a power 4 team. Best way to get a position like that is being part of a team that wins a conference championship. WVU has a legitimate chance of winning the BiG12 where OU has very little chance of winning the SEC. OU fans better come to terms that OU will no longer be a relevant program. They are now a Vanderbilt, a Mississippi State. Going to the SEC was a massive mistake. Unlike Texas OU can’t recruit for SEC football. Players wanting to play in the SEC don’t want to go to Norman Oklahoma when they also have offers from Florida, Georgia, or Alabama, LSU and Texas. OU is a sinking ship and Zac Alley got off before it goes down.
