    I currently own a 03 TJ and love it..but nothing..NOTHING will ever be as sexy as the YJ interior. The gauges..the steering wheel...so old school..so rustic...so "yes Im a jeep dont fuck with me"...something that the modern jeeps (07 and beyond) are missing. Great video man! Feel free to check out my recent jeep TJ or if you wish my older yj videos. The YJ died when someone cut me off at 45 MPH

      I agree. The yj was the last jeep to me to retain that hardcore jeep feel. The plain simple interior, rough riding leaf springs, and the simplicity of modding or repairs. I watched your vid when you 1st got your yj as well and It was a clean yj too. I will never get rid of my 93 yj even though I recently bought a new DD(sports car). I bought my yj stock and all the repairs and mods done by me. I was meaning to make a vid of mine as well and I probably do it once it gets warmer like in the spring.

    Thanks, I love my YJ. I installed my lift about 6 years ago. Purchased from Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers. It was a "Genuine" 4 inch kit for around $450. Four Wheel Parts owner also owns Pro Comp and Rancho. If you buy one of their "Genuine" brand kits it will come with Pro Comp springs and Rancho shocks. I recommend getting a kit with full leaf spring pack replacement ,no add a leafs or blocks. I had a Rough Country kit on one of my Toyota pick ups. It was a good kit and held up well to abuse.

    Great to hear it Jose . Can't wait to see your YJ. I would suggest that when you put your springs in or just in general use anti-seize on all the fasteners except the lug nuts,and even the studs can do with a pinch , if they are rusty. It will make it much easier to take it back apart and work on it. You don't want to fight a stuck nut/bolt on the trail. Or even worse break one off. The downside to this is that you must check the nuts/bolt for tightness regularly. Thanks for watching.

    Don't feel bad, I can't even keep up with what day of the week it is anymore.
    I actually ran a t-case drop for a couple months after installing my current lift. I was holding off reinstalling my other t-case w/SYE and running the shortened XJ driveshaft again after I install my new rear axle but I couldn't stand having to hold it into 2nd, 4th, or Reverse. I ditched the t-case drop and reinstalled the other t-case and am much happier. The increase in ground clearance is also a plus.

    I had a 4" lift on my YJ years ago and was running the stock front driveshaft with no skid plate clearance issues and the slip-joint had enough length not to be an issue. I didn't run a t-case drop at that time and had a SYE with a shortened XJ front driveshaft in the rear of the YJ. I even ran a stock TJ front driveshaft for a short time which has a larger diameter tube and still didn't rub. Did it rub before you installed the t-case drop? T-case drop does point the front yoke up more.

I'd like to get some air lockers for my TJ at some point, but I wonder if a cable operated one might be less susceptible to damage.

    As for Rustys, I have no experience with them. I have been wheeling for about 19 years. In that time I have had many sets of tires on light trucks. BFG, Micky Thompson, Mud King, Goodyear, Dunlop, GT Savero, Interco Thornbird, Bogger, and TSL Super Swampers. Of all of the tires these Super Swampers have the most all around off road traction , rocks , mud , dirt you name it. However, a good street tire they are not, and wear quickly, but max off road traction is what is important to me.

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355  11 лет назад

    The front driveshaft is still stock length. At full flex it rubs the skid plate. I think it would be worse if removed the t-case drop. I did not mention in the video but the Dana 60 is a high pinion and the rear driveshaft angle is nearly 0 degrees and I don't get any of the rear driveshaft vibration any more. Your point is valid and honestly I have been thinking about removing the drop and notching the plate for the front driveshaft, to gain a couple of inches of ground clearance. Thoughts?

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355  11 лет назад

    They are 33 x 12.50 x 15" Super Swamper TSL Bias Ply on 15" x 8" steel wheels. If you get Swampers , get the the bias plys, the radials are egg shaped . No amount of balancing will take the vibration away. A round tire also works better off-road, an egg shaped tire will cause some hopping, and you will lose traction.The downside to bias is they get a temporary flat spot from sitting overnight, but quickly goes away once you start driving and the tires warm up. Of many tires these have been best

    On level ground it gets about 18mpg city / 18mpg hwy (top on) and about 16/16 top off. Not bad for a rolling brick with 250,000 mi.! I use only synthetic oils and 89E gas. I also run DuraLube fuel treatment often, which is the only fuel treatment I have used that noticeably works. It cleans the gunk out very well.

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355  11 лет назад

    @TheKrasnaludek I don't know if you have driven both the YJ and the TJ, I liked the YJ because it was alot more solid feeling with the leaf springs than the TJ's coils, driving a TJ with a rear locker on the freeways here in the Pacific NW is sketchy due to the tracks made in the road.With a TJ, changing lanes requires being on the ball so you don't end up 1 1/2 or 2 lanes over. The YJ was also less expensive to set up, money went further. If you get one get the 4.0L HO and pitch the dana 35c.

    Ya this is a Sahara and does have A/C and has always worked. I don't use it much but every time I have, it has blown ice cold air every time. I have never had to recharge the system. It does make a difference on a hot day where rolling down the windows is not enough.The downside is that it makes the my engine run a little hotter than usual, so make sure your cooling system is up for it and keep one eye on the temp gauge.I cycle it manualy to prevent overheating. Also the rear pass wont feel it

    • @FastFerrariF355

      The lift is a 4" full spring package w/shocks(replaces old springs) on all four corners. The lift and wheels were purchased through "4 Wheel Parts" in Portland,OR on 82nd Ave. The lift was advertised as "Genuine" brand. 4 Wheel parts owns "Procomp" and "Tenneco" (better known as "Rancho"). The springs were Procomp and the shocks were Rancho. The wheels are steel 15x8 Procomp series 97. Tires 33x12.50x15 SuperSwamperTSL Bias ply.

    Thanks, I love my Jeep. Rattle caned mat black and some rust gives it character. Some guys want to keep their Jeep looking clean and shinny and are afraid to scratch the paint and never use it for what it was intended for. However , It's their Jeep and they can do what they wish with it, I choose to use mine for off-road and are not worried about scratches. It has been a trooper. Thanks for watching.

    Awesome jeep by the way...

    • @FastFerrariF355
      @FastFerrariF355  10 лет назад

      I'm assuming you have a Jeep. I'm running 4.56 gears. With 33's I am just about back to stock gearing. I can row through all the gears with plenty of power. I would probably not go any lower than this with 35's and factory axles, you will just break from the torque. Stock axles can only handle so much, and were only designed to withstand stock size tires, and even then you risk breaking. Your drive train is only as strong as your weakest link, axle shaft and drive shaft are the most likely breaking points. If your going to run 35's I recommend 4.56 and lockers and slip yoke eliminator. A locker can actually take stress off axles. With open diffs , if you are running a ratio lower than 4.56 all it takes is a tire getting air and being too much on the gas when the tire comes down to snap an axle. You might check on axle swap options if you want a trail reliable rig. The rear axle in Wranglers are garbage and not worth putting money into....in my opinion. But I understand not everyone can afford an axle swap. Hope this helps.

    About 900-1100 with machine work and a master rebuild kit assuming a new camshaft will be needed. standard rebuild no stroker. but I will be replacing clutch too so add 120 to that...then of course all fluids. Im doing the tear down and rebuild with a buddy. I keep it under 3000 too, and use a 10-30w oil. but it has some serious valve chatter and two cylinders I am sure are losing compression.

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355  10 лет назад

    I am as surprised as you are.I can only tell you that, I keep the maintenance up, replace parts with only the best and use synthetic oils.I also try to keep the RPMs below 3000 at all times. As far as the engine goes. Aside from plugs, wires, hoses . belt and such, I have only had to repair the exhaust, replace 2 water pumps , and the alternator. Its been a great rig. P.S. This was my daily driver for 5 yrs in heavy Portland traffic. Do you know how much is that rebuild going to run ya?

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355  11 лет назад

    Years ago I installed the t-case drop when I installed the 4" lift. After wheeling I noticed a thin ring of fresh metal on the front shaft exposed that lined up with the skid. I have never actually seen it touching. The SYE was installed much later with the axle swap. Perhaps pitching the drop would be a good idea, it would be nice not to fight getting it into 2nd,4th,and reverse. I checked out your YJ on your channel ,...... looks nice. You make quality videos. Love PB blaster, great stuff.

      So I don’t have many issues mechanically. There’s a recall on the 6:57 emergency brake and the windshield took a rock from semi in Arizona. Pretty much it’s the same as when I bought it in 1995

Unless you cant live without the “W” cut into both sides of the bumper , just get the pro comp its the same thickness and quality as Warn. You can even add the Warn hoop to the Pro Comp if you want to add radiator protection and the Warn look.

    How do the leaf springs ride compared to coilovers?

    • @FastFerrariF355
      @FastFerrariF355  10 лет назад

      Leafs are much more solid and stable than coils.On the street,in my opinion coil springs are too mushy. Especially when a rear locker and lift is installed,when shifting, the rear end will,(depending on the road),swing to one side,sometimes shooting you a half lane over if you are not ready for it.It can be sketchy.As well when you go over lumps in the road, the jeep tends to have an uncomfortable floating action. However coils will generally flex more off-road.I like my leafs.They don't do this.As well my Jeep has very little to no roll when cornering, even with the sway-bar disconnected.

      ***** cool man.. I've read good and bad things about them.. I'm putting a 8.8 in the rear and it's spooled.. trying to decide whether my Dana 30 is worth getting an Ox for..

      William Small Here is my 2 cents... In my experience deciding to keep the dana 30 really boils down to these 2 things; your budget, and what size of tire do you plan on running. Replacing the diff carrier , ring/pinion, axle shafts with stronger and more durable components strengthens it to effectively what is a dana 44. In a perfect world we would all run Rockwells and Rockjock 60's. Doing a front axle swap of anything over a dana 44 cost nearly 3 times the amount in the end than beefing up a dana 30 that will handle 33" tires like a boss. At 35" tires I would start to get worried a little, at least with a 6cyl. engine, but would still work. Maybe with a 4cyl. this might not even be a concern until you get over 35's.If I planned on running 37's or larger, I would ditch the dana 30. I live by the motto; "Your rig is only as strong as its weakest part." I don't trailer my rig, so I might be a little conservative. Trail repairs suck. The 8.8 is not a bad way to go, I almost got one myself, but I got a great deal on my Dynatrac 60. It was 100 percent brand new and twice as thick of a housing than standard 60's. In all with disc brakes, locker,drive shaft, slip yoke eliminator, etc, etc. it cost about $5500. I was happy to toss that turd dana 35c.

      ***** 35s are all you need around here, any bigger and you start being to tall to really get deep in these mountains.. An Ox locker will be the most expensive upgrade to the 30 I think... That and chromoly's and I should be good... I do have the 4 banger ;)
      I can't wait to ditch my 35, and my 8.8 is sitting in the garage too lol...

    Bro, how did you manage to get that 4.0 to go 250,000 in a Wrangler...XJs typically go that even lifted and all...but my 1992 YJ 4.0 has 184,000 miles and it needs a rebuild bad..someone must have taken car of your 4.0..mines been beat on...BTW I paid $3200 for it when it had 168,000 miles in 2012. Rust free Florida Jeep.

    @jeepcollector91....... I must be getting Alzheimer's. I guess its been a long time and I remembered wrong. As I was making a new "top off" video I realized my mistake. My driveshaft wasn't rubbing the skid, it was rubbing on the downpipe of the exhaust after I installed my Banks header. Wow is my face red!!! Removing the t-case drop still sounds like a great idea though.
