Interesting video, nice to see that storm broken down. I remember this storm well. I was actually hanging out with a neighbor and some friends in their garage. I remember the beginning just seemed eerie with the lightning display leading up to it all. I live in Reston (which borders Herndon, where the presenter lives) and was without power for 3 days. Normally not that big of a deal but that heat wave we had made it miserable.

I was sitting on my porch in Monroe County, WV, with my weather-alert radio close at hand. There were no alerts or warnings as I observed a wall of black clouds approach from the northwest, across the next mountain ridge. As the sky was so dark and ominous, I went to my laptop and went to the Accuweather.com site and immediately saw that the approaching storm was violent, judging by the black and purple patches in the radar display of the front approaching us. I immediately had the bride start closing windows and to prepare for high winds.
We were as prepared as we could be when the power went out (it would not return for ten days) and I stood on the porch, bracing myself against a stanchion when the Derecho struck. the trees surrounding our house, having grown experiencing comparable winds, stayed intact and rode it out with us. We escaped with minimal damage.
Many of our neighbors were not as fortunate and suffered property loss as a result.
Additionally, many were found to have been ill-prepared for an emergency such as a long-term loss of power, resulting in deprivations from lack of food and water. A concerted effort by the community rectified the issues, but we came out of the incident concerned that many, if not most of the citizenry fail to maintain even a basic supply of survival necessities, like food, water, fuel and toiletries required for even short-term emergencies.
In the wake of the disaster, we have been working to educate the public on the critical necessity to maintain basic survival supplies in their close proximity and to practice emergency procedures to ensure that the next catastrophe goes smoother that this one.........

I came out of work at 10 in NVA! It took me about 20-25 minutes depending of traffic lights! There wasn't any warnings on the radio in the car that night. The temperature was 95 at 10:15! In my apartment parking lot after getting out of my car before I could get to my building temperature dropped to around 70 in almost one second! In my mind I was thinking of a tornado or something and took off running to the concrete apartment building! The wind came from the north west and rain with lightning cane booming really garden!
