  • Easy DIY Fix VW T5 Heater Fan Not Blowing on 1 2 3 except on 4 Max, VW Transporter. Replace Resistor for Fan Speed.
DO NOT TEST THE FAN BY SWITCHING THE IGNITION ON IF YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE AIRBAG SWITCH/PANEL. IT WILL CAUSE AN AIRBAG LIGHT TO FLAG UP AND NEED RESETTING. I DIDN'T HAVE OR NEED TO DISCONNECT THIS IN MY VIDEO.

Just this minute finished changing the Fan and Resistor using this video with my Son. Turned out to be the Fan in the End, would work for a while then grind to a stop on all 4 settings. Changed the Resistor also as a matter of course. Such an easy video to follow Thank You very much Bud!

My instrument cluster is resting when i swith off ignition (clock mpg etc) and the rev needle is stuck at 1000 (at idle rev) when taking out the key and slowly resets at zero when I reinsert the key but everything is reseting.

No problem hope it helps. Re the guage I don't know tbh. It sounds like it could be a voltage leak/short somewhere based on my knowledge from Classic VW (short the guage to earth to test its working) but with something more modern like the t5 I wouldn't like to say for sure. Best of luck 😊👍

Thank you VERY much for this video 🙏 My multivan had the large 4 prong resistor… which I discovered following your instructions on how to get into it. AUD48 on eBay 😄
The problem with my fan was it wouldn’t turn off even when the car was switched off and locked up!
Also pulled the “hidden” fuse which is located under the dash to the right of the steering wheel!! 40amp main blower amp fuse.
Thanks again for the clear instructions in the video!

I didn't on my van which was a 2009 T5. If you disconnect the air bag and turn ignition on it may throw an error light on Dash you would have to get cleared. Disconnecting the battery maybe a sensible thing to do regardless and would stop you turning thie ignition on without thinking too. Just avoid that air bag panel tho, it doesnt really need removing 😊👍

@@lauriruusila4405 I'll be absolutely honest I've never had the switch off so not sure how it's wired or if it just plugs into a loom etc, but I do know from past experience putting the wrong wire on the wrong side of the switch/switch terminal on another car years ago had the same effect, tho can't remember if it turned off or not. Other than that may need to go looking. I cant see how a faulty resistor could cause that because the switch should override it in the off position, but I'm not auto electrician, this is just my best guess. Best of luck 👍

No I think that would be a different issue. I'm not a big watercooled expert so please double check my advice. I believe it can be a sign your coolant level is too low. Worth checking for the sake of a minute. I believe it can also signify an issue with the heater matrix. Either the valve is not opening and closing as it should (I'm not sure how this is operated on a t5) or possibly a blockage. Start with the easy stuff first tho and please check with more knowlegable peeps on fb groups or online forums too. Hope that helps :)

Hello ! I was wondering if you happened to find a relay box hidden in there somehwere while you were dismanteling the dashboard. I have been looking for the starter motor relay and can't find it for the life of me. Internet forums haven't been very helpful either. Mine is a 2009 2.5 TDI T5. Thanks you!

Hi, I didn't and wouldn't know what it looked like tbh but having a quick search online it would seem that only Automatic vans have the inhibitor relay, manuals are just like most other cars/vans with solenoid and starter. Is yours manual or Automatic.
      Have you seen this page?

      Hope it helps :)

Will this affect the AC unit ?

I can't see why it would, however my van didn't have air con so I really have no idea if there could be a complication there!? It may well be with aircon the fan design could be different, I'm just not sure sorry. Best of luck 🙂👍

Was too easy, thanks heaps, put back together though and speed 2 is no go and resistor gets f……ing hot, probably something else is wrong as well

    • @PeoplesCar
      @PeoplesCar  Год назад +1

That sounds like a faulty resistor to me if other speeds are OK. If the switch was faulty you wouldn't expect it to get any hotter than on 1 when the resistor is working hardest??

@@PeoplesCar I ran it while I was driving today on 1st speed, no dramas, faulty resistor you think, it's brand new out of the box, that's a pain

@@brendantindall805 I'm no expert and do t want to cause you addition cost/work but can't think of what else it might be? I assume that wasn't a fault b4 you swapped it out? Obviously if the fault was there b4 swapping it out it should be something else but if the only thing you changes was the resistor and it started suggests that's the problem to me. Resistor would be working most on 1 low setting and hottest but don't know how hot it gets? Sorry not surebif that helps. Possible switch but don't see how that would make the resistor get ABNORMALLY hot. Could you wrong tho

@@PeoplesCar thanks heaps for your advice, after a couple of days of summer weather and running the aircon, it is working fine on speeds 1,3 and 4, I think I'll let it roll, resistors get warm by nature, just seemed unusually warm after I gave it a test run and went to install it

What it's blowing on all 4 settings now but nothing is coming out? At a guess I'd say the filter could be blocked, I was told this sometime can cause the resistor to blow but not sure if that is accurate sorry. Alt could be something like a link coming apart somewhere.....assuming the fan is turning. Good Luck! 👍
