A mate with the 181 has a satin finish military paint and he was saying it can be rolled very effectively. Not sure whats different about that paint to any other tho. So long as don't blame me if goes pete tong! 😅👍

Fab info thankyou! I suspected it was poor prep but didn't realise is was subsequent shrinkage that peels it. To be fair it's been me chucking paint on it in one way or another since 1994 so I can't blame anyone else even though the original peppermint was bloomed to hell! 😅 Like yourself I love a nice shiney one colour bug, and deffo the way I'm going with the 58. Yeah I did find a few people over the years ...mostly ladies....that said they loved the car, but wouldn't have painted it brown! ....Alright! 😅 Funny you should mention flowing wind over the car. I don't think there is any going back with the steel nownits clear coated. In for a penny and all that. Everyone says keep going so far. I have an interesting alternate idea for the front wings tho, maybe do the next vid on that. Thanks for watching and the feedback 😊👍

@@ChloeBrooke-Read-f5u like a high pitched squeel? Never had that with the T5 but did with a previous car. Was the fan unit itself so I would suggest similar in your case. In that case I just left it and never ran on full speed where it made the noise! 😅 The resistor only works for reducing the speed of the motor. Thanks for watching 😊👍

@scorcha100 oh I see what your saying, maybe so. I don't think would have worked with the particular lock I was using as so chunky but a smaller one maybe. Also the arm would have been annoying to a theif but its strength compromised and probably become easier to bend out the way. But definitely a good idea and worth a try before whipping the whole thing off. 😊👍

Hi. Like everything it's just a compromise. Fitting dual carbs is about more than just increasing the amount of fuel. Its reduces the restriction of both the carb and manifold, allowing for increased air flow, increased fueling if needed, and a quicker throttle response. Yes you can drill the stock carb jet out, it used to be a mod back in the day, and I did it here in this video... ruclips.net/video/XOl7wxaXLz4/видео.htmlsi=UwZxY7OuuUmPzV88 ....however on that 2.0 CU in the video it restricted the revs, while it drove OK and didn't seem to be a problem with the amount of fuel being delivered? It definitely restricted the top end revs ie air flow which you would want if looking to increase performance, this wasn't the point of the mod in this video. You could look at other single carb options. People often use the webber 32/36 progressive here in the UK. The Van however had an Empi version and was nothing but trouble. Try and find a decent genuine one. I'd give that advice for any carb actually. They come with a bigger manifold middle section which should help a little too. I actually have a singe Dellorto 36 setup to go on a bug as like yourself didn't want a dual carb setup on the 58. Only downside is the adjustment screws on a bug face the wrong way towards the fanshroud making them a pain the adjust. There are guide vids how to do that on YT. Careful adding a cam especially if going to restrict the revs of the engine through carburation. I had a Engle 110 on a gas flowed, dual carbed engine, and while it worked OK it didn't really come in till half way round the rev range. This would have been too much Cam for something stock inho. I've never seen how a stock motor runs with ratio rockers, I don't see why it wouldn't but 1.4 would be too much, you could only use 1:1.25. Really don't know about this one tho. A stock carb will work better with a stock SVDA dizzy. 009 are better for cars that get revved hard. For a nice casual driver and smoother curve stay stock. But either can work. Just an idea..... but why not save money on cam/carb/dizzy/rockers as looking about 800 quid new there, keep saving fit forced induction. Something like the AMR setup should be faily simple to do. Give you a better performance boost than all of your suggestions above, not having to split the block to do it etc. Check this vid out.... ruclips.net/video/6bJYJ_v88tI/видео.html . Hope this helps. @ricklorimer9984 old wives tale that, only porsche engines that fits right in is the 912 and would be cost prohibitive v performance of having a new bug motor built. The 914 motors again aren't straight forward without significant bodg mods or moving gearboxes forwards, and anything flat 6 like those out the 911 would be even worse. @PeoplesCar Hi, just a bit more to last night's message which probably appeared somewhere else on your blog😂😂, Our real interest in van life kicked off when my now wife and I made good friends in 1990 with the dreads who had travelled from Stalybridge in an old land rover to the sleepy village of Alton Barnes in Wiltshire, their names were John, Julie, Nick and Chris, Nick and John had some of the longest dreadlocks I'd ever seen, they were very shaman like, who possessed good practical mechanical knowledge and artistic skills, later writing books logging local knowledge and history. We spent many a long night by their caravans near some barns sat around a camp fire trying Nicks dried shrooms, smoking talking, and laughing a lot !! surrounding us were ritual landscapes on Tim Carsons farm Alton Barnes Wiltshire very close to the Avebury stone circle. It was a time of mystery much due to the circles, UFOs etc appearing, we spent hours with the dreads trying to catch people making the formations, eventually getting to know some of the circle makers, but not all !! Another guy we met and made good friends with in the fields was none other than Reg Presley lead singer of the Troggs who composed love is all around and sung Wild thing, lovely guy... My van of choice was a 69 Bedford CF with sliding doors, at the time not being a traveller myself blended well with the travelling community. My twin boys were probably conceived in this bus, at this time we never considered having a VW. It's different story now, many of our freedoms have been eroded, and although not free it's nice to connect with people and be part of the VW community, trundling to events, to party, chill etc & try to recapture some of the old magic.. ​@@PeoplesCarHi really good of you, I'd love to meet up at some point, first part of story was just buying our bus Harlow from Harlow in Essex 2011, I was told it came from Cornwall, a barn find that belonged to an old boy who'd died, so it was rebuilt painted etc buy the seller in Harlow. After buying it I drove for a bit then the lights dimmed, incredibly a fire had broken out in the engine bay😱. it was a short due to wires getting caught in swing lock spring the one thats on a roller on the flap door, so yeah had to put a fire out, then rewire it on side of road still within Harlow, hence it's name Harlow 🔥🔥🔥. Having owned a number of camping vehicles I was eventually talked into getting a VW Dub by a surfing dude we'd met called Martin Dorey in Dubs at the Castle fest in Wales, growing up I'd always loved the shape of splittys and T2s especially an orange and white one, I ended up writing some stuff for one of Martins cook books also his Campervan Bible in which an account of our bus purchase, fire & drama etc can be read about. lost touch with the guy since his 2 minute beach clean efforts, time moves on, so Ime now contemplating stripping the old sealer off underside but will have to wait till shoulders fixed, been slapping old engine oil mixed with underseal on for a bit..looks orrible, but mainly all metal 🤔I think😂😂.. @@astrostufftomtrubridge7915 Oh no it needs to be known! He has said he will find out 😅. Afaik your not supposed to run anything higher than 3bar with Dells, not sure what a stock pump puts out. You can get a combined Malpassi filter and pressure regulator which are nice but they aren't cheap. Think looking at best part of a ton! I'd deffo fit a small inline one somewhere (but not in the engine bay). I once read something by a guy who used to test petrol. Apparently a lot if the fuel is the 'same' but the cheaper stuff can be less well filtered and often has more grit etc. I don't understand why that would be so as you'd think they would filter it all the same?? But was adamant when they do testing there was a lot more particles in supermarket fuels etc. I've only used Esso/BP/Shell E5 fuels since. Maybe he actually worked for Esso Marketing department! 🤣

@@astrostufftomtrubridge7915 Hi Tom, tx for watching. I have to say I'm not super knowledgeable about Dellortos! They are one carb I've had little experience with. The engine in the video was bought for my cabrio that got burned out during restoration and they were the first Dellortos I'd ever owned. Guess that makes me a Webber Solex man then 😅. I have a friend who is very knowledgeable with Dells though very tough to get straight answer from lol, but I'll try him tomorrow and see if he has anything to offer. I know running rich can stink and not the best for fuel economy but its not something I've ever worried about too much, so long as it's not sooting up the plugs etc I always consider it a good thing. Avoids pre detonation and keeps engine temperatures down, 2 things you really want to avoid. You should smell how rich the setup on my stock Subaru STI Turbo motor is when cold, you can swim through the garage! 🤣. You don't say what size dells you have on your 1600. 40s I think are on the big side for something that revs like stock and going to need chokes, 36s would be as big as I'd go but not saying its impossible. I'll have a chat to Chris and see if I can get some info to help 😊👍

I briefly questioned Mark about this in this video with Kompressor Haus ruclips.net/video/6bJYJ_v88tI/видео.html I was surprised he didn't have a better flowing exhaust but like he suggested it's not necessary when supercharging. Even so, I would have thought minimal exhaust restriction would give the best response and performance from the SC as want as little restriction as possible after the compressor, just like a turbo setup. But what do I know lol. 😊👍

Which one it that? Im pretty sure it's rust paint on the bug in the thumbnail, people are deffo getting better at applying it. Are you going the paint or rust route? If rust It might be worth you blowing over your shell with something waterproof like 2k primer to protect it and then rust painting that if that's the direction your going. Or you going to just lacquer what you have? Personally I like a bit of shine. Just about to cock up my paint this winter but going to lacquer it afterwards 😅
