This is a wonderful tutorial series. I wish that it had been available in 2012, when I started making moccasins. I picked up a few new tips and tricks. Thank you!
Can you do any of this by sewing machine? I love, love you clear, concise videos! You are clear, speed through areas you should and have straight forward, easy to understand instructions. Awesome teacher!
Your instructions are so helpful! You guided me through the whole process to make a beautiful pair of moccasins. And now I’ve started the next pair and am continuously looking back at your videos for guidance. So appreciative of you!
So awesome! My eldest daughter is getting into beading and she wants to make mocassins for nana! This channel is perfect. Thanks so much. Tanshi! Migwaa chi meegwetch!
Thank you so much!! I used all your videos and just finished my very first pair of moccasins!!! I wish I knew how to send you a picture!!! They turned out amazing 😍
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I had bought a moccasin kit last year, but I was really struggling to understand the instructions and how it all went together. With your guidance, I was able to use the supplies I had to make a beautiful pair of moccasins for my partner for Christmas, and I can't wait to make more!
Thank you SOOO much for this excellent series!! I am a teacher myself (not home ec) and have to say you have done an incredible job!! Thanks again and I can't wait to get started using your foolproof method :)
WOW thank you SO MUCH! GREAT TUTORIAL SERIES. And yes I am going to make me some of these! I already have the deerskins. I just need to watch all of the vids first but I now have the confidence and the best instructions. yay!
Thank you so very much for your videos making moccasins... it is so very good explained... so thankfull for this...i am from Austria and there is no oportunity to find something else here. Thank you for your time you explaine for us ... blessings to you 🙏😊😊😍
What an amazing series of videos! Thanks you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise. Have watched the course from start to finish and looking forward to making my first moccasins with a fur-on deer pelt which I suspect will be a bit more fiddly than leather and liner method but I'm up for a challenge! 😏 Amazing tutorials and your delivery (and speed) is spot on 💖
I just had our first daughter. She is 6 month in a week and I want to make her a tiny pair. I’m going to try with just felt first to get used it the steps. I wish u had a pattern . As a Métis family I’m going to do bead work on the front
Thank you for your videos. They are fabulous. We are looking for an instructor to run a Beginner Moccasin Pro-D workshop with our Indigenous Support staff for School District 36 in May, do you happen to live in B.C. or know anyone in B.C. we would like to hire someone like you to run the workshop. Would also love some advice on where to buy the sherpa liner material? Fabric stores or do I have to go to a specialty store? Thank you so much again for sharing these.
Thanks for these kind words. Almost everything in the video can be purchased at billworbfurs.com. They ship same day worldwide. Here's the link for the sherpa billworbfurs.com/products/pile-lining-sewing-crafts And in case you missed it, the link to the video discussing all the materials needed and how/how much to order. ruclips.net/video/0opu3SMaW8Q/видео.html As for the workshop, can you please email me at chamberssewing@gmail.com It sounds like a great idea.
I was wondering what the changes would be if we were to make summer moccasins. How much smaller would we go if we were to use a felt liner? Thank you for all your help.
I wouldn't change anything. The reason for this is that they fit snug when they're first made regardless, and will shape around the wearer's foot. So the lining doesn't make too much of a difference to the finished size. I hope that makes sense?
Yes, very soon! Any special requests? I have a couple more beading techniques to demonstrate and then I thought I'd show some ways to alter the moccasin pattern to make different styles.
Could you please show how I can resolve my sealnskin mocs. I just love these mocs n they are very loved. If you could help I would be grateful! P.s. love your channel.❤
Again, such an amazing video. Can I ask what thickness leather you use for the main moccasin? Sorry if you've mentioned it in the video but I couldn't see it anywhere 🙂
Love your videos! My question is: can you sew the lining in at the same time as assembling the moccasin? I fear that if they are sewn in separately, the toe bit will separate as they are taken off & as I am making for a child I think there may be frustration involved when she goes to put them on and having to fiddle to get the lining back in. Thank you!
I probable wouldn’t do them together because of the bulk it would create for the toe seam. But you could tack the lining into the toe after you insert it. Just hide the stitches in the “ditch” of the seam. (I hope this makes sense)
Hi! Just came across your channel and saw the AMAZING creative videos you have and I've subscribed. :-) I'm inspired.. so going to have a go at making a pair of mocassins. But have a quick question; I bought a pair of vintage mukluks/mocassin boots. They're absolutely stunning and I love them. But unfortunately they're about half a size too small. They're just pinching my toes even without socks on. And I was hoping to wear socks with them in winter.. Do you have any ideas or experience in stretching out leather moccasins? Open to any ideas... I'll do literally about anything to be able to get these boots to fit. Ty in advance for your time. Regards Dawn 🙏🏾
In your situation I might remove the lining and replace with something lighter. Then once they stretch around your foot try reintroducing the original liner?
Great series. Thank you for the detailed information. One question. Do you secure the fur strip after turning it so it stays turned out? Or does it stay turned out on its own?
It should stay turned out on its own. If it isn't you can tack it down at two spots where the fur meets the vamp. Just lift the fur and sew only the leather. The fur will hide your stitches. Alternatively, you can make a small adjustment as seen in this video (by me). ruclips.net/video/gnEivqxeho4/видео.html
I am following along and making a pair of moccasins but I've run into a problem. The wool melton that I'm using for the vamp is fraying. I tried sewing it to the moccasin but the material does not seem strong enough. I beaded on it already. Do you have any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thank you for your insight.
There's a few things you can do. 1) Buy a fusible interfacing from a fabric store and iron it onto the back of your work. Because the fusible is non-woven, it can't fray, and will bind up all the edges in its' adhesive (show this reply to the people at the fabric store if it doesn't make sense to you). 2) Before sewing, use a blanket stitch all the way around the perimetre of the vamp in order to neaten all the edges and prevent fraying. All the best. Let me know if you need further help.
hi! i started following your videos to make my own moccs for the first time :) i'm having trouble getting my needle through the leather (glover sized 3 - as you recommended) any advice?
Hi Chambers Courses I did send a message to you on the pattern but my pattern is more of a like a hard sole style pattern for regular powwow dance moccasins
You'll need to adjust how much "height" you give. So the border around the foot (measurement 1-3, for example) should be shortened to maybe 2.5cm. Otherwise it'll work, yes. Let me know if you run into trouble.
@@chamberscourses7638 Thanks, I appreciate that! I went ahead without waiting for your reply...I should've lol. It worked but I probably could of for sure reduced the amount around as you suggested...next pair! Another question...I am actually going to be working on a grad project with some grade 12's in the school I work in....Do you mind if I reach out when we start if/when we have any questions?

If you were to make these for outdoor wear, would the main difference be the type of leather used? Or would you need to make more adjustments?
You might want to use non-sueded leather, and a good weather protectant, and add a rubber sole to protect your feet a little.
hi! i started following your videos to make my own moccs for the first time :) i'm having trouble getting my needle through the leather (glover sized 3 - as you recommended) any advice?
Unfortunately it's just a bit of a battle. Try changing needles often, and try higher quality needles.

Hi Chambers Courses I did send a message to you on the pattern but my pattern is more of a like a hard sole style pattern for regular powwow dance moccasins
I am making this video! Stay tuned.
I made my moccasins too big 😬 is there a way to shorten them from the back?
Yes! I made a video on this topic: ruclips.net/video/m8YYcqxU5JU/видео.htmlsi=c8yXVdAHsYC8dVD3
Is there anything wrong with using rabbit fur as the lining?
Nothing wrong with that at all. It will be extremely warm.
Can I use this process to make moccasins for my baby or would I have to tweak it at all?
It will need tweaking. My next video will be baby mocs. Are you subscribed? Then you'll get a notification when it comes out.
Is this pattern good for infant/toddler moccs as well?
You'll need to adjust how much "height" you give. So the border around the foot (measurement 1-3, for example) should be shortened to maybe 2.5cm. Otherwise it'll work, yes. Let me know if you run into trouble.
