    I’ve done a few of these. It’s so exciting to see what develops as you cut and piece. Some simple designs creates some pretty amazing blocks ie quilts. I always liked using the same fabric for the borders, so you’ll be amazing what designs came out of it. Fun!

    I always wondered if this would come out! Nice! I've always wanted to do a kaleidoscope quilt but i didn't like the idea of wasting fabric by fussy cutting only specific things. So i wondered if using all the fabric would create good kaleidoscope. And it really does! Even when turned in other directions! Almost like you planned it but you didn't! I'm totally sold! Btw, hello from California! Love your tutorials!💜

    I was hoping to see how you sewed it together. That’s the hard part for me, getting the angles and points right.

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  3 года назад

      Mmm. I find this technique is very forgiving. I just sew into rows and I sew the rows together

    • @melindaostergren8115
      @melindaostergren8115 2 года назад

      Using a starter scrap of fabric, doubled, just before the actual pieces is, for me, the key to precision. I chain piece wherever possible and always end by sewing off onto another doubled scrap.
      This keeps the needle from pulling/pushing fabric through the needle hole and prevents the threads from tangling.
      And I use my Purple Thang to keep the true 1/4” seam allowance in place when I come to the end of an element. Or a stiletto can be used.

    I will send a photo when the quilt is finished. Just a word of advice to quilters. I had a baby qult ruined when on first wash the red ran! Now I prewash all my fabrics and it is surprising how many colours run, usually in the red orange yellow range.

    This is so spectacular. I really like how the rearanging of the triangle gives a different look. How would i do a paper pieced triangle to do the same effect. Like a log cabin design.

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  6 лет назад

      Do you mean English paper piecing? You’d have to fussy cut.

    • @aliciak.8067
      @aliciak.8067 6 лет назад +1

      No i dont have a fussy cut i really dod like your log cabin design. But i was looking for the triangle design log cabin paper piecing caleidascope

    So how many yards of fabric do you actually need? How do you finish to make into a square?

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  6 лет назад

      It depends on the size of the quilt. I used about 4 yards. Check my video from Thursday on how to sew hexagon blocks together. For the corners, cut a triangle the same size and cut in half

  • @nanashouse202
    @nanashouse202 4 года назад +2

  • @sonjataylor1817
    @sonjataylor1817 6 лет назад +1

    Very pretty but how do you sew it together and maintain the effect?

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  6 лет назад

      Sonja, sew the blocks in halves only. Lay them out on a surface or design wall in a pattern that pleases you and then sew in rows of half blocks. Then sew rows together.

    • @vivianyeoh2231
      @vivianyeoh2231 6 лет назад +1

      Hi Teresa, do you have a video for sewing these triangles together and maintain the effect? Your cutting method is brilliant!

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  6 лет назад

      I have a video for sewing hexagons together. Place the hexagons in a pleasing pattern and sew in rows. I used a design wall to keep the hexagons together while I sew row by row. It’s a surprisingly easy technique.

  • @pegasusquilts
    @pegasusquilts 6 лет назад +1

    The concept is easy, but execution requires real precision in lining up the layers, and sewing the pieces together, or the illusion is spoiled. Also, the scale of the fabric chosen can make quite a difference in the effect.
