  • How do you deal with negative feedback? How do you receive and give criticism without judgement? How do you change your beliefs, actions, and results?
In this whiteboard session, Chris shares how to deal with feedback. He shares how you can give better feedback using non violent language. He breaks down the essence of what criticism really is and how you can only take things that are helpful from feedback. Chris also shares the different types of feedback and a structure on how to give the best feedback possible.

idk if anyone did an actual scientific study on the impact of positive versus negative feedback in performance and motivation. i think it may depend on the activity. in war you need both, and more of negative than positive.

Thank you for posting this, very helpful! I've definitely dealt with the inner critic and emotional flashbacks.
There are a few of things this video causes me to reflect on:
    1) Criticism usually comes from those who are doing less than you (I had to ask myself "Where am I doing this?" so I'm not doing it too).
    2) Sometimes people have valid feedback, so I consider it. Doesn't mean I ultimately have to agree with it, and sometimes I lean right into or past it if it makes sense.
    3) When I get scared of doing something or feel like my ego gets dinged, I have to ask myself "What am I doing and why am I doing it?"

I can very much relate to having to watch my tone.. it's a cultural thing.. some people can find it flippant or dismissive but it's not meant that way. Loved the first story used to kick off this episode. Chris Do made the executive producer accountable for his "opinion" of the quality of the team's work. He couldn't just walk up to Chris and make an uncertain statement like, "I'm not sure if they're doing their best work." I think this is the thing about "opinions." Many are given "freely," w/o actually knowing , being deeply involved in what's happening, or understanding the context. Because an opinion , to these people, costs nothing. They're not accountable for the results of their "advice" or "view." They don't have a stake in the outcome. Chris made sure the producer had a stake in the outcome.
