Yeh I believe you're right and that Enhance Details was initially aimed at helping RAF X Trans files but then became something bigger and part of the whole AI Denoise thing. Before this we also had Iridient X Transformer to combat the worms.
It's a little unfortunate that we need to do this additional step, but I have a feeling its a step I would be making anyway regardless of brand of file (maybe GFX is good enough as is). It's a good time to be an APS-C shooter, and a zoomer. I can do my work and shoot at 8000 and 12,800 ISO and produce work for my client that is easily passable (once using Denoise of course). The difference is pronounced, even on a very low setting.
I think also Adobe like DNG files (after all it is their native RAW file format). My old Pentax K-1 produced natively DNG's that were an absolute joy to work with.
So the only kicker is that once I have done my culling its a batch process of Denoise, 20-30/100 seems a decent compromise on details and noise clean up.
Moving forward I wouldn't mind seeing this process time speeded up, and even an option on import? Also for the program to build 1:1 previews. On some jobs that are not time sensitive, I'd be happy to import 4000 shots and automatically have them generate Denoised counterparts as well as 1:1. As is I have to wait till the Denoise is done and then build 1:1 Previews afterwards, bit annoying.

I love you for this explanation! You fixed my brain worms

I use enhance to transform raf in DNG with 0 or 25 in NR settings. The details turn out great

Yeah, I honestly don't see the problem in LrC. I use the AI enhanced noise reduction if my ISO is high and the Enhance sharpening if I don't need NR

A few years ago I did an in-depth testing in both programs with the first four X-Trans sensors. Now you have to really pixel peep to see these worming effects, otherwise it makes now difference in normal view.
What I found is that worms does exist no matter what program you use except C1 does apply default settings to mask it SOOC. I matched RAW settings in both apps and found that C! will show the worms when you take away the default settings. So basically it is all equal, only one app will show true RAW effects while the other does the IQ setting for you rift out of the gate.
I then matched Lr settings to C1 default and I got the C1 look in my Lr file all the same.
You do not need to switch programs if you shoot Fuji, just be smart and reset your default settings with a little homework and save your money... and to be honest, I never have issues with worms in my images thru Lr because I don't crop much or over edit, and to the viewer it is a non issue.

No worms in DxO or exposure x7

@@SlawekOsso Oh they are there, you just dont see them just like in C1 because of how they are processing, key word; Processing, the files by it's own default settings. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean the actual RAW file suddenly doesn't have them.
Again, there are pros and cons to what uploading processing these programs do to original files.

Even though you have to zoom in to 300% to see them, even at 100%, there is a significant negative impact on overall quality and contrast. I gave up on Fuji years ago and never looked back. Leica and Ricoh GR photos are by far the most malleable in LR - they are both native DNG's so I wonder if that has something to do with it. Anyway, great comparison as usual. Cute pup!

It's the demosaic algorithm that's at fault. The X-Trans CFA (color filter array) pattern is inherently more complicated than the Bayer pattern to deal with. The fact that Leica and Ricoh uses DNG has nothing to do with it.

Is it just Lightroom Classic or also on iOS?

    Nice video, added my sub,
I have zero issues with Fuji and LRC or C1 but, I also don't ever sharpen the out of focus areas and never to the extremes...
I always use the masking setting in the sharpening and only sharpen what I want, my brain knows the controls without me thinking but I believe you press the ctrl key (on PC) as you use the slider till just the edges you want sharpened are highlighted.
I do have set to a default when I import into Lightroom for all my cameras to apply 0 sharpening on import.
This maybe just harsh but if you need to slide the sharpening slider so much to sharpen the image that a "worm" effect happens , you are really trying to save a bad image.
I am not trying to be harsh to anyone learning photography, but if you have the right camera settings (in my experience soft images probably have a too slow shutter speed and either have visible camera shake (IBIS has it's limits and it is very rarely as much as manufacture claims, especially if you are unsteady) or has motion blur as the subject moved slightly such as portraits with a shutter speed of 1/30th or slower, or a landscape where the wind is moving leaves etc
