Home remedy for gnats, slice potatoes over soil wait a few days flip potatoes over. After about a week throw potatoes away. The larva go to the potato slices. It won’t get rid of all of them but it decimates the numbers.

Just use mosquito bits in the water you water the plants with.

    • @justins712
      @justins712 10 месяцев назад +1

Or just add some hyper-mites too. You can get some free ones in Colorado worm company's casting usually. If you have bad fungus gnats out of control, the populations of hyper mites will naturally explode from the castings and take care of them. It takes a while, but the soil will eventually balance itself out. Definitely use some hanging sticky traps and card sticky traps to catch the adult flyers and monitor the levels. I also do a routine IPM system every 2 weeks. I rotate through sprays like em5 and capatins jacks and mammoth cannacontrol. I am definitely going to be trying that potato method. Thanks for the information!

A nice layer over the whole top of container works too or mix it with neem cake gnats here hate neem cake I mix half neem and Karanja works great otherwise just stay soapnut wet agent

Soapnut spray is the only thing I use for pests other then homemade neem sprays I just get a panty hoe in a half gal milk jug cut the bottom off and scoop a 1/4 cup neem Karanja cake ground up in it and run water through it and you get some potent spray then let it sit on the plants and give it a good stream spray to wash off any residue dead spider mites powder mildews it’s good stuff aswell

@@Mrjboomseedco I started using neem cake pellets and had my worse infestation of gnats ever! SO, now I'm putting the pellets on as a top dress to see if that helps (well, until I need to top dress with nutrients).

Good advice for any and all new growers: don't use jewelers loups. Save yourself the trouble, and go find yourself a digital microscope. Amazon has'em, if you dont want to give amazon money, find one elsewhere. You can basically buy them as kids toys these days, the tech has come far enough. I have a 2k resolution digital microscope, works with an app on my phone, it was a $17 kids toy. Set your phone down, hold a branch on your plant steady in one hand and aim the scope with the other at a top bud. You can't NOT get a clear view at trics this way. Check top buds, check middle buds, check bottom buds. In my experience, top cola trics mature the fastest.

Jewellers loop held to your iPhone camera with enough patience and focus works amazing. You can 2x on your phone with a 30x and my phone will focus at least if I’m patient and steady enough. Take a quick picture and you can see all of them.

I have had fungus gnats go through the little holes on the bottom of my pots and had the outbreak down there as well. What I have found that works well for me, is all the things Jeremy mentioned, plus in addition when I water my plants (I use a moisture meter to truly tell if the soil really is dry) I will dig a small but fairly deep hole in the top of my soil and SLOW water only through the hole. I also do not water until it pours out the bottom. Once I am confident that the soil is saturated enough, I fill the hole back in and then compress it with my hand to keep the gnats from finding and burrowing in that single spot. When I do top water (to get my top dressing to soak in) I brush any mulch aside then I place a small fan on high aiming at the surface to accelerate the drying, the gnats can't fly through the high wind and they have a tough time crawling Then I replace any mulch. I also discovered that growing a cover crop of alfalfa seems to work very well at keeping gnats away. I have had them infest the pots without the alfalfa and not even touch the ones with alfalfa, despite being right next to it. Found this out by sheer accident

It would be a pain with living soil but you don't have to keep them there long. The flying adults fly straight into the sticky traps. Also Mozzie dunks for ponds disloved in whatever you are watering with helps heaps. Mozzie dunks have a living thing in them that eat the larvae of the fungus gnats. Nz seems to have a lot of fungus gnats.

I used to think WAY too much about scoping the trichomes. The past grow, I just let the plant go and let the flowers do their thing, I probably let that plant go a week and a half longer than I normally would have. The flower was the best I've ever grown, just absolutely frosty and delicious, and strong. I've been harvesting too early and you might be too, just experiment with a part of a plant, let it go a week longer and see how it turns out. Also, follow the 60/60 for drying that Jeremy recommends, absolutely works great (that also probably affected the finished bud), i just punched a bunch of holes in a big cardboard box, and covered some holes up until I reached my desired humidity.

New bagged local soil by Roots Organics, Gaia Green amendments, Use your Q-20% regularly, and add Bulletproof Si silica. My plants have vegged for 60 days and are surprisingly small in my mind. Exotic Genetix Bangarang from seed with 100% germination. Any ideas what my slow growth may be attributed to? Thanks a million Jeremy, hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday! Cheers!

So I've done 8 runs same soil.. I do almost everything you do with some minor changes. I went from 30 gallon pots.. down to the earthboxs. I tried both and in end earthbox wins. For a few reasons.
But my question is how long can I go with no soil tests.. I'm very good at feeding my bugs worms and roves. And I try to keep my npk feedings to 2.5.2 and just 2.0.2 in veg. I made my own craft blend and have organics I use like banana worm casting (home made) and alfalfa meal
It's just odd that I don't ever seem to have any issues am I that good lol ? Or is organic really this easy ?

I think its important to check the top AND bottom nugs for trichome color. If you just look at the very top, you will see amber but the lower nugs will still have ALOT of clear trichomes at the bottom... depending how much you lollipop the plant. But Ive learned not to just look at the very top of the colas, I also check the bottom nugs and make sure they at least have a good amount of MILKY trichomes too

    Question to Jeremy. From Ron.
My living soil set-up is 2x 40G thick grow bags, with 2x plants each. Is it possible to use the Blumat Tensiometers for accurate moisture levels without using the drip system until I feel confident with self-watering?

Bottom watering mixed with a diatomaceous top dress and fungus gnats are a thing of the past for me. Hope this helps somebody. You even get a silica boost from all the microscopic-organisms. Win-Win.

I've tried using DE mixed throughout my soil AND as a top dress, but it didn't help. Maybe my fungus gnats are immune to the basics. Even Need/soap mixtures won't kill them! So I use a lot of sticky traps but might try a top dress of sand the next time.

When using mustard seed meal from Build a soil, does it hurt the beneficial bugs . I know when you use it it stinks.
    Question 2,
the tea you were telling everybody about does that hurt the good bugs
Learning how to use live in soil has changed everything. I appreciate the Videos I keep going back to the old ones as they are awesome

Question: Several times I have experienced situation in which super sticky resinous buds at weeks 5-7 from flipping started loosing their stickiness and skunky smell overtime, even tho they were not ready yet. They became drier to the touch, didnt make fingers sticky at all or very little sticky at best. I chopped them earlier than the breeder suggested because I thought something was going wrong. I had an impression of the buds shrinking in size along with the previous issue but I assume its just subconscious mind playing tricks on me due to the stickiness loss issue. I thought they were maybe already going old and receding in size and potency but they were still before schedule. They turned out fine but I wonder if Im missing here something or is it normal.

I would love to know some information about foliar sprays I recently purchased your pure protein dry. My main question is in regards to when to spray amino or EM-5 , is there a time during lights on to do such? Also what about during 1-4 week of flower ? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Jermey! You’re a huge advocate for EarthBoxes but I feel like you haven’t left clear instructions for those of us relying on your official feeding schedule. The schedule tells us the proper ratios per gallon of water, but how does that get fed to the plant, (the reservoir? Top watered? And just as importantly, how much? My plants are doing pretty good, but I don’t feel like they’re thriving. I’m definitely missing a piece of the puzzle. Def showing signs of deficiency and it’s sad because it’s a situation that could be easily remedied with simple guidance.

Could you put something on the stem of plants that bugs won't climb past? I used grease on an aquaponics tank in Costa Rica and bugs from the ground weren't a problem. Maybe you could put some essential oil or a natural grease or something else on the stalks of plants so mites and stuff don't infest from the soil. Maybe you need to make a product for sale that does it. Vaseline would probably do the trick but it's obviously not organic. It's just a crazy idea I just had.

I will never cut a piece of bud and look at that but I will use a loop and look all over the plant not just the top of my plant. Top colas and some in the middle. Once I see enough cloudy with alittle amber ON THE BUDS to make me happy I will chop

Had the same problem with gnats and their larva. What I did was almost every week added neem seed meal and water it in. You can see all the larva come up and die its gross lol. Then, a couple of days later, I added nematodes and on top of that ordered rove beetles. Fully got rid of them. Hope it helps.

Jeremy do you know anything about the heavy metal content of flue gas desulfurization gypsum which is a by-product of sulfur scrubbers from coal fired power plants? It is not mined like normal gypsum. I keep seeing it in big box stores but you really have to read carefully to see if it says if it's mined gypsum or this new crap from power plants.

Have you seen the compostable hemp trellis netting available from Amazon, eBay etc. I love the idea, but I'm a bit nervous about the potential chemicals left over in the hemp. What do you think? Does the hemp industry use a lot of chemicals? I'de love to have zero waste.

Ay Jeremy Thanks for everything you do and share! Your the man! I keep reading about using silica to help build cell walls and make stems strong no longer needing a trellis and grow bigger buds. Wondering if this is something that can be used in living soil and would love to hear your opinion about silica. Thanks man much love✌️

Hi BAS guys, I had some terrible mistake and the complete harvest was ruined by moldew, I was chopping the nugs to toss them in the compost pile but they were so sticky that I deciede to ask if is possible to make something with them, thats because it was my only supply for next months and maybe I was thinking on some extract or something, I read that is bad to smoke or even to make edibles. thanks in advance for your help.

Im almost done with my first organic grow.. i only used rainwater. When testing its 7.0 pH at 30 PPM. I think it really depends on the tap water. My tap water comes out of the tap at around 8.5pH and 360 PPM. If the PPMs werent so high, it might be easier for the soil to buffer the pH. But as for using the rainwater, I did not pH unless I had to add some ArmorSi (silica) which raises the pH quite a bit. I wouldnt use any pH down over and over.. because it will build-up inside the soil. I did it once every 2 weeks. But again, this is my first organic run. Im more familiar with synthetic nutes in coco coir. But I went with NOT pH'ing 95% with rainwater. If the PPMs are low, the soil should be able to buffer the pH/water with ease. I cant wait to start my next organic run. I made my own soil with unbuffered coco coir, perlite, worm castings and Earth Dust dry amendments. Messed up on feeding once or twice but nothing a nice compost tea didnt correct. About 1 - 2 more weeks till harvest! She looks amazing and stupid frosted. ETHOS Early Lemon Berry RBx1 💪

I think less moisture makes for higher brix and better taste. A flush right at the end before harvest lowers the brix. If one must flush give enough time for plant to dry out and increase brix for taste.
