    I think a 450 great for trails, climbing hills, sand dunes etc. But on the track it’s probably a little much for most weekends warriors. It’s easier to go fast when you don’t have to be responsible with the 450 power.

      i agree but even on trails it’s still too much. you’re always feathering the clutch and they over heat and stall too much. 250f, 350f are way lighter and better handling for trails and motocross

      I ride both mx and woods and personally the last bike I would ever want in the woods is a 450 especially in the tight stuff it wants to stall out easy and it makes you 1000 times more tired and it like to overheat very easily a 125 it’s almost easier to ride in the woods then a 450

    I guess I will put in my two cents for years when I was younger I raced Motocross off-and-on everywhere from 60cc all the way to 250 2 stroke I had not been on a dirt bike for over 20 years I am 43 now with a wife and two kids I bought myself a 250cc 2-stroke KX I ended up whiskey throttling and needed ACL and meniscus surgery needless to say it was way too much power for not riding for many years ended up trading it for a RMZ 250 4 stroke which I do believe is the perfect bike for somebody like me with pretty good experience but has not been on one in years these 250 Motocross four strokes have came light-years and Technology since the old 4-stroke trail bikes I am 100% happy with my 250 4-stroke RMZ perfect amount of power for a man my age that does not want to get killed my honest opinion nobody unless they are a professional Rider needs a 450cc motocross bike and by the way Rado I love the content and I love how humble and honest you are that makes you a better Rider and a better person in my book God bless my friend

      I'm 48 and I just picked up my first dirt bike since I was 15 - a (2016) 300XC. Needless to say that the bike scared me at first, but the more I ride it (safely), the more comfortable I feel on it - and I love you can lug it really low and it won't stall. Of course, with it not being a pure MX bike I suppose the learning curve is a little less extreme than being out on the track.

    Great vid rado! I think for pure MX then a 250f or 350f is plenty for 90% of people out there. Me personally i do 70% riding at home in my yard and trails and 30% at my local mx track. So for me personally a 250f wasn’t quite power in my yard for me. But taking a 450 to the track is hard to handle for me but i still enjoy it alot. I also had a hard time pulling the trigger on a 250f because of maintenance cost. I heard the 250f’s dont last as long and need rebuilt alot more often and im personally not a rich guy so going as long as i can safely before engine rebuilds was important for me. I still haven’t rode a 350 yet but definitely hope to in the future!

    I really thought that a 450 would allow me to ride less aggressive and be more lazy. I thought I would be able to ride more laps without getting exhausted. I discovered that is not the case at all. The 450 feels way heavier even though on the scale it's within 5 pounds of a 250f. I can only ride about half as many laps that I can on my 250 4t. For that reason alone, a 450 is too much bike. The newer 250f's have the power to clear any jump I'm willing to do also. In my opinion, the only place a 450 might be better would be free riding in sand dunes. Anywhere else a 450 is not going to make anything better, easier or faster.✌️ Thanks for the great content

    You make some great points here, the only point I might mention is being safe and faster, maybe say being more proficient leads to being safer in this inherently risky sport? And for some guys the 450 especially offroad will save you in some cases where you might lack clutch control, or are heavier 220+ and a 125 or 250f is going to lack the bottom end to climb something without really attacking the obstacles. But on the track I agree 100%

    Great video Rado, where was this last year! I ride woods and found out I wasn't ready for my KTM 300, I didn't have enough throttle control and the power kept me from focusing on my technique. One of my riding buddies has the 125x and your comments also apply to woods riding. For beginners (at any age) there's a lot of techniques that are hard to learn no matter what bike you're on, trying it on a bike with too much power (for your skill level) will hurt progression. I'm on the waiting list for a 125x thanks to your videos and excited to really start learning. I'm keeping my 14' KTM 300 in hopes that I'll grow into it and have it for a change of pace (it only has 100hrs). Look forward to more of your content.

    Most people think that getting a 450 is like moving up a class, which it is in the power department, like getting a 125 from an 85, more power and a different size, but in all reality, it is only something you should move up to if you are feeling you actually need more power and the bike is what is limiting you not your skill, I have an easy time blasting out of corners on a 450 with all of the torque but am slower on a 250, not because the I need the 450 but because I need more power

    Great video with great advice. Planning to follow in your footsteps and start riding MX. At t=846 you recommend starting with a 250 2-stroke. Did you mean a 250 4-stroke? If so, is there a reason to prefer a 250 4-stroke rather than starting on a 125 2-stroke? Also, is a 250 2-stroke a good alternative for the 350 4-stroke once you are able to control the 125 2-stroke ?

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  Месяц назад

      250 4stroke is the easiest bike to ride and learn on. I would recommend to start there. 125s are fun but much harder to ride them correctly, might be counterproductive as a first bike.

    Hey Rado...love the channel! I'm in my early 40's, roughly your build, and I have around a year riding in the dirt. I've ridden street bikes my whole life though. I bought a TTR230 last year to start riding with my sons, but now I'm eager to upgrade to something a little more advanced. I ride mainly on trails, but I'd like to start riding tracks as well. I've been debating between a YZ250F and a YZ125X...two entirely different bikes, I know. I love the idea of a two stroke...the simplicity, the sound, the power curve...everything about it. But I feel as though a 250 might be a better choice, particularly for the more consistent power delivery and ability to "lug" it around as I become more proficient on the track. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 месяцев назад

      I think 4stroke is smoother and easier to ride, especially 125 2strokes take a lot of effort to ride them well. Did you think about yz250fx? Great for trails and very capable on the track as well. I had one before and loved it. Have fun with your sons! 👍

      I have been riding for decades and I can assure you that there is no ''fake news'' here. Being able to ride a 450, like most riders in fact, does not mean that this is the most appropriate all around bike. On a track, as said by former pro rider like Ryan Hughes and many others, a 450 is too much for almost all riders. Not that we can't ride them, being too scared or anything like that, just that they are not the best amateur bikes for different reasons. I Have a big smile each time I am on a 450, loving that low end monster power, but I am not any faster with them than I am on a smaller bike. And the weight difference, even if it seems small, and also the bigger crankshaft, have a huge impact on the overall feeling and handling. I have a 450 and a 350 and can tell you that the 350 is much easier and nimble, while being very fast. The limit is the rider, not the bike. Tony Cairoli won a few world championships on a 350 against 450's...
