What's The BEST Dirtbike For A Big Guy? | 2023 Big & Tall Shootout

    A few years ago, we realized that not all riders are created equal when it comes to height and weight. Of course, varying speeds and abilities affect how each bike can suit individual riders, but what about sizes? That's why for 2020 we started the Swapmoto Live Big and Tall 450 Shootout, as plenty of larger-than-average riders and racers purchase 450cc dirt bikes. How does the new Yamaha suit someone over 6' tall? Does the KTM WP air fork pump up firm enough for a 250-pound rider? We wanted to know!
    Alas, thanks to our friends at Fasthouse, we present to you the fourth-annual Big and Tall 450 Shootout. For this comparison, we recruited our in-house Clydesdale, Dominic Gaytan, and rounded out the tester panel with Twenty-Three Media's Michael Corlee and Shock Therapy Racing's Steve Piatonni. All three riders tip the scales over 220 lbs. and they range in height from 5'8" to 6'3", and all have many years of riding experience and can get around. the track at impressive speeds.

    Best bike reviews on the planet. Not everyone is a horse jockey and seeing these done for us big dudes is great! It is hard enough to know every bike will need resprung for us, but hearing how the cockpit and adjustability of the bikes suits tall dudes is great.👍 Keep up the great work.

    I recently lost over 20lbs since I've had my '21 yz450f and now my weight is within the factory suspensions limits. I'm around 5'8" in boots and weigh 185lbs. For me it's always about maximum power and speed. When I took delivery of the bike it was a death trap. Nothing was adjusted properly for me. After all the mods and getting the bike dialed for my riding preferences, it's feels like a completely different motorcycle. The yz has unlimited tuning potential with the custom mapping for the ECU. For someone to say a bike has too much power and thus harder to ride is ridiculous. It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to create and load custom maps into the ECU. Get with the program guys.

    You've always had the best content on bikes test so that's a no brainier but what us big guys needs is what gear to wear. The sizes are so different from brand to brand it would really help a lot.

    • @fragutopia
      @fragutopia Год назад +1

      I agree, but the problem is that every brand keep changing the sizes from year to year. At the moment, for me, Thor fits good, they have roomy (and big) sizes without being too baggy and the arms are long enough (most brands have too short arms, and I hate that! :)

    Interesting video.
    Seems to me the review should have been modified to have the suspension “adjusted” to a heavier median weight of these test riders. Say spring and revalve form 200# or 210# and then evaluate them. Am I wrong with this thought?
    Thank you.

      I had 21 YZ450F. It felt really cramped for me as well. At that time I had 2019 ktm and my son had 19 kx450f so we both switched bikes back and forth. Both are 6 foot tall. 21 Yamaha was noticeably more cramped then ktm and kx. I tried yz bars in forward hole but still didn't like ergos. Fork was good and liked mapping after I smoothed out the hit with app. Currently I'm on 2021 kx450f. Love the kawasaki over my ktm and the yz I had.

    The hardest part to adjust as a tall guy is the cockpit. I think all brands should offer something like "2Tall-racing" had, where you raise the subframe and tank instead of having a ridiculous looking high seat. With that mounted on my bike I don´t have to pull so hard with my arms to get from sitting to standing, and/or blowing my knees doing so.
