The double entendre of being a clown, and calling himself a clown for letting someone take his woman. This song helped me push through my own feelings of being betrayed. It's a masterpiece.
Going through the same my friend... Better to know a bitter truth than to live in a sweet lie It is the first step towards freedom and genuine relationships
A perfectionist beyond belief! He understood that annunciation and patience made a difference, which is why his transitions to falsetto are some of the best, EVER!
Idk why but this version just hits different. I was just remembering this song from classic cartoons and what not so I decided to look it up, saw the original, thought it was interesting, so I looked up the lyrics and got this video, now I am a sad clown... 😥🤡😭
I am 74.I have an Album featuring Luciano Pavoratti singing his famous Pagliacci Aria. When I heard him sing years ago on the Album, I could not believe the beauty that touched my ears! Such Beauty, such emotion & Perfection! No one can top Pavoratti!
Truly a magnificent performance..........I still remember Harold in the show Hey Arnold singing his own version " Look at me Arnold.....Look at me.....I'm a .....BIG UGLY CLOOOOOOOWNOOOOOOO!!! A BIG FAAAAAAT UGLY CLOOOOOOOOWNO!!!!!!!" not the exact translation to the original lyrics of course but the essence of grief and sadness is still there.....
This right here is why Pavarotti gets to be remembered as "the best", maybe his voice isn't the MOST beautiful, maybe his diction is isn't perfect, maybe he doesn't have the power or the depth of some other tenors. But damned if this man couldn't act his ass off! And for opera, what more could you want than the drama, the emotion and to be brought to tears. Truly an amazing performer, who deserves to go down in history!
He didn’t ask her out, he caught her having an affair but he gotta get his act together because he’s got to go on the scene and entertain people. ‘Laugh, Clown, for your love is broken’
I always heard this piece by Lucianno, but never really knew the meaning behind it. For me I just loved the music. However, after reading the story myself, and seeing the translated lyrics brought me to tears for the first time. Its such a beautifully tragic song.
Visit the top opera houses of the world every week for the next 100 years and you will never see and hear that level of perfection and brilliance of sound equalled much less surpassed.
When you are a performer… the show must go on… does not matter what personal problems you are dealing with. A few years ago I had to have my dog put down and I was very up set.. well I had to be a clown at my local children’s hospital and bring some joy to the children and families who were there… I put on my costume and makeup and made the children laugh… you never would have thought I was really upset or lost my little furry friend just a few hours prior.
Listening to this feels very different after I lost people very close to me and people's only concern was I wasn't as outgoing and funny as I used to be.
It has happened to me …..the pain of Caruso the sadness in a broken heart….it is so deep an emotion that only the broken hearted will know…then they know it never ever goes away….even Elvis…that’s right Elvis had it when I saw him live…front row in 1977….his eyes were filled with tears…a broken heart …..love the greatest and strongest emotion….

Even before 1:59, you can see this man singing with pain in his eyes. I wonder what he was thinking about to generate such a visceral emotion? Regardless, I'm impressed. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I just saw the double opera tonight at the Royal Opera House. The aria here sung tonight was amazing. Marvelous. The Opera singer couldnt have sung it any better. He couldnt. Because even on his best day, he, along with everyone else, stands in Luciano's shadow. Luciano casts such a long shadow that it's hilariously hopeless for anyone to try and replicate his performance. It simply cannot be done. He was the best. Still is.
He has the same way of connecting the audience with his eyes as Judy Garland. No, I'm not comparing one with the other, both beyond compare, but his way of reaching out with his eyes is very similar
for all that has bin going on in the world at the moment this song tell so much more of a story and paints such a rich picture I appreciate and love you all
Original 'Joker'
How about another joke Silvio
The penguin did sing this also 💯

Me too
Its a theme that repeats throughout time, unfortunately. Life imitates art and vice versa.
Hope you found the right woman
Those 5 minutes of Pagliacci might be the greatest piece of music coming from the whole opera register.
Walküre - Leb Wohl
Tristan and Isolde - Immolation
And it’s amazing and somewhat tragic that it’s really the only thing he is known for; almost everything else he did was considered a failure.

Einfach so gut von Pavarotti.
Was für ein Tenor mit so vielen Facetten vom Leben🎉
Like my dad all ways said "laugh cuz your only other option is to cry"

Or laugh to keep from crying. Is what everyone is doing.

omfg i think you just unlocked a core memory of why I love this song
This is also where I first heard this piece. God, Hey Arnold was great.
Who knew Harold could sing?
I didn't notice until LAST YEAR that it became Harold's leitmotif everytime something tragic happened to him.
Thank you for adding the subtitles onscreen. I was sharing this with a friend who had never heard it before, and that made it much easier!

Dedicated to all the homies who thought the worst she could say was "no"
You realize he killed his wife, right.
More like dedicated to all the homies whose girls were being 304 sneaky links.

I was completely shocked by the performance and lyrics. What a powerful Opera!
Wo bekomme ich den Text und diese Oper
Ich mochte immer die Darstellung von Ihm und mein Sohn wie er klein war
A reminder, if one was needed, about what an amazing talent Pavarotti was. He made me feel every moment of that.
I love listening to this and the amount of emotion he put toward it. Truly understanding the concept behind everything made it 10 times better!
The pain...
The misery...
The despair, the hopelessness, the loss...
How can there be so much beauty in... suffering?

This song always saddened me without understanding the lyrics, now I see why.
Laugh clown at your broken love... laugh at the grief that poisons your heart
