What a treasure this bloke...top lad till the end...his perspective on making music on the last answer proves why he's a cultural heritage of humanity. Long live the Captain.
The Captain makes me smile. I just think of him and I can not help smiling. It's involuntary! I watched this upload with a grin on my face and it never wavered.
Been saying that since 1979 when I got my first copy of Machine Gun Etiquette. Don't know how many times I've had to replace that bloody album over the decades, well worth it.
I’ve liked the Damned since 1980, still haven’t seen them live but I will one day hopefully. the captain sensible‘s solo music is amazing as well as the damned! Say captain say wot!!!
I was the lead guitarist in a punk rock band. Sensible was a major influence on me. I loved the 60's music he mentions here and I get when he talks about great bands that got boring.
So great! Saw the Captain play several times in the 80s, in a fuzzy chicken suit, just underwear and completely naked. Always tearing it up. Ooops Smashing It Up. Will forever be one of my favorite guitarist from one of my very favorite bands. Class act for sure.
One of the great undiscovered gems is the Captain's album WOT - incredible tracks, one after another. Happy Talk, Snakes and Ladders, Glad it's all over - Check it out.
A true punk life's pink Floyd the doors ect punk is 41 years young now respect to all music that has decent written lyrics Bolan slade new York dolls Bowie all played there part in music and the damned respect
Lemmy once said the Damned were the most bonkers band he toured with.I saw the Damned live in the 80s at the Vic Hall Hanley Stoke On Trent and i can confirm Lemmy was right. A bonkers experience was had by all.
I saw the Captain fall off the stage at The Phoenix in Toronto a few years ago, slipped on some splashed beer and ended up breaking a few ribs! All of a sudden he was gone, and the band stopped playing and everyone was staring at each other, what the hell just happened? Rock N Roll is a hard life no matter how old you are.
02:15 - Hey, video titler..."On Her Satanic Majesty's Request" - that's the result you get when you cross The Stones with a Bond movie! It's "Their Satanic Majesties Request".
I'm with him all the way on the Stones' Psychedelic masterpiece ' 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' and Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd and I know he loves Soft Machine's 'Third' which I also love but I gave the 1st Bee Gees album a listen last week and that was not for me. He's also recommend Genesis' first album in the past. Produced by nonce Jonathan King. I might give this one a blast while watching Richard Hammond on Top Gear. You never know it might be great. Anything before the period before Peter Gabriel went up on stage looking like a giant haemorrhoid.
I find it hilarious these punkers trash 70's Pink Floyd....Dark Side of the Moon is sonically, musicanship wise, songwriting wise and everything else possible 50x better than any punk band ever recorded or played live. Let alone Meddle, Animals, Wish You Were Here, Final Cut, Atom Heart Mother, More!, Obscured by Clouds.....if you don't hear the genius in this music, you're a buffoon!
Anyone who uses the word “punkers” automatically loses any claim to an informed opinion. As it happens, I’m an old punk & life-long fan of both The Damned and 70s Pink Floyd.
Dark Side of the Moon era Floyd were the absolute antithesis of year zero 'punkers' such as the good Captain. If you take a moment to listen to the interview he states how much he loves the Syd era Floyd. They wanted Syd to produce the Damned's 2nd album, but had to settle for Nick Mason instead, who, in many peoples opinion made a terrible job of it - no understanding of the punk dynamic, the urgency, the angst or humour involved in a band such as the Damned. make of that what you will 'Daddyo'.
Captain liked some of the early surf bands too and in many ways some of, those bands were superior to floyd in guitar sounds, speed of the playing and originality

top bloke for sure. Thanks for watching
Our ‘raw edged’ national treasure 🇬🇧
This is a bloke you would have a pint with. Still looks cool!!
The Captain makes me smile. I just think of him and I can not help smiling. It's involuntary! I watched this upload with a grin on my face and it never wavered.
So nice to hear someone address the 'perfection problem' in music. It's got so sterile it's worse than dirt.
Amazing talent truly amazing guitar playing great man great work ❤
The AMAZING Captain Sensible; among the most influential performers in rock history
You're joking, right?
ps. Captain is an amazing guitarist... I just wanted to stress this out as nobody ever says it....
Yes, I agree. He can play so many different styles. Also, that he was inspired by Syd Barrett, that explains a lot.
He's a genius...ive watched him at soundchecks..brilliant 👏 gazz
Robert Fripp said The Captain was the best he'd heard, that was way back in the early 80's.
Been saying that since 1979 when I got my first copy of Machine Gun Etiquette. Don't know how many times I've had to replace that bloody album over the decades, well worth it.
Doesn’t get enough credit / recognition
Was at the show and it was non stop from start to finish. Just amazing.
I’ve liked the Damned since 1980, still haven’t seen them live but I will one day hopefully. the captain sensible‘s solo music is amazing as well as the damned! Say captain say wot!!!
thank you, captain sensible for all the great music.
great musician and great guy. I like a lot his choices.
I've met and briefly chatted with Captain a few times now. He is the most sincere, down-to-Earth guy you could imagine. A real joy to meet.
Agreed. A positive man with good energy. Still having so much fun on stage.
Great interview and great questions.
Met this bloke after a Damned gig in Sydney, absolutely nice bloke .
I saw them in Melbourne last week and they were absolutely incredible but unfortunately I didn't get to meet any of them :-(.
How good was the Sydney show, Paul Gray rocks.
My favorite past toilet cleaner has made me smile for years! Thank you Captain!
Cool that he gave mega props to GFR Live album never realized he was such a big fan.
I was the lead guitarist in a punk rock band. Sensible was a major influence on me. I loved the 60's music he mentions here and I get when he talks about great bands that got boring.
Name of the band that you played in?
Why doesn't he mention his own band then??
Been borin for yrs yawn yawn 😕😕
Yes, The Captain loves the Zombies! Good for him.
So great! Saw the Captain play several times in the 80s, in a fuzzy chicken suit, just underwear and completely naked. Always tearing it up. Ooops Smashing It Up. Will forever be one of my favorite guitarist from one of my very favorite bands. Class act for sure.
Saw them and the ramones at hammersmith palais. Great days.
Absolutely top bloke
Agreed. He would only meet with us AFTER the show! Still bursting with energy. Really quite inspiring!
One of the great undiscovered gems is the Captain's album WOT - incredible tracks, one after another.
Happy Talk, Snakes and Ladders, Glad it's all over - Check it out.
Great informative interview, the Captain at his most Sensible, in great spirits after a show is rare.
Gotta love The Good Captain
Syd Barrett is the one !
What is not to love about Captain Sensible and the Damned.
Cool he admires Barrett
Right on about the Bee Gees, 1st album! It was a huge discovery for me some years ago. Sounds like The Moody Blues a bit.
This whole list should make it official. Sensible is a 60s psychedelia musician first, punk second.
Yes, that one surprised me too!
Beautiful.
A true punk life's pink Floyd the doors ect punk is 41 years young now respect to all music that has decent written lyrics Bolan slade new York dolls Bowie all played there part in music and the damned respect
Still only looks about 35!

I said Captain I said Wot I said Captain I said wot you want!
when i saw the damned some years ago the captain had broken ribs...in this video daves arm is in a sling...touring is a rough life and dangerous
I saw the Captain fall off the stage at The Phoenix in Toronto a few years ago, slipped on some splashed beer and ended up breaking a few ribs! Records not vinyl
02:15 - Hey, video titler..."On Her Satanic Majesty's Request" - that's the result you get when you cross The Stones with a Bond movie!
It's "Their Satanic Majesties Request".
whoops -That's why I stopped with the titles, so many chances to mess up. Thanks for the correction.
Yeah right Satanic Majesty.. I have Cicciolina's 1st album I dare Captain compete with that! ;)

Give Odessy & Oracle by The Zombies a chance, it's fantastic.
The Captain is Christ in a red beret.
David Kunikis There is only one SAVIOUR and CREATOR of the world, JESUS CHRIST. Exclude Him from your life at your own peril.
Grand Funk, best live??......don't think so. Nothing beats Rock'n'Roll Animal by Lou Reed with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner.
Good call
Johnny wore that shirt because Malcolm made him.

It's just punk rebellion, secretly they all dig the Floyd.

Yes dad.

Whatever you say, Gramps
