Top Top interview and what a fella, compelling viewing and celebrity written all over big Phil.
Wow small world I was at School with Tom Blakey who Phil mentioned
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Give Gaunty a call , doors always open . Phil the blubbergut is a joke .
Hi Phil. I hope you read this. I had a very similar "upbringing", Glen House, Medina Unit etc, plus many more. I ended up going a different route and my life was f*cked up for decades. I'm still not really living life, but mine should have gone: Cadets, Paras, SAS then, onwards. Not abuse, Kid's homes, noncey Boarding School, Youth Custody then Prison. Just goes to show how tiny differences can affect your whole life. Respect to you, Brother.
So many fantastic comments on here I am truly humbled. I am going to try and reply to as many as I can even if I end up with cramp in my fingers and forearms like a fiddler crab. It was a real treat to meet dodge we got on so well he is a diamond geezer. I also want to thank his team who have done a great job in the edit, they really brought it all to life. Once again thanks Big Phil xx

Youll need the brain of a small planet to understand middle eastern politics 😅😅😅😅
As an Irish man from a nationalist community in NI there would be a lot of anamosity towards ex BSF members in particular. During the time he mentioned and before it was an uneasy situation for all involved with grey areas in almost every scenario. I'm thankful those times are gone. What I will say is this man's strength of character is astounding. It's clear how his personality and outlook would be ideal for a soldier or anyone who is constantly in high stress and oftentimes depressing environments. I'm glad he is here to tell his story and hope he has a long and peaceful future. Take care of yourself and thanks for sharing your story. 💚
Great words. All wars are started by governments.
Well said..
Yes, there is more than one side to the situation in Ireland.
An old man, formerly in the IRA, said that these people who are calling themselves soldiers now are nothing of the sort. They are gangsters
Hello. When you say ‘those times are gone now’, are they really?
Us English, as kids, were not educated about the troubles or any of Irish history (including how William of Orange and Tudor chums tried to “outbreed the Catholics’). We watched footage on TV which bred resentment. We are so naive/ ignorant. But I studied it a tiny bit and was told I’m related to the Collins family (another story) and the only right conclusion I come to is that Ireland belongs to the Irish - all of it! X
@@wardygrub thanks for the reply. When I say those times are gone now they are 'mostly'. There are still dissident republicans that use a threat and acts of violence to police and other establishment (UK gov/crown) institutions. There are also loyalist paramilitaries that use a mask of politics to justify their existence when in actual fact they are organised crime gangs that are only interested in dealing drugs and exploiting their community. The landscape has changed entirely since the good Friday agreement with 99.99% of the population in opposition to any organisation that use methods outside of legitimate political channels (ballot box). There are idiots in any society but people here generally have a lot of respect for people in the other community and really do not appreciate bigots in their midst. Usually the biggest bigots enter the political arena in some shape or other though which is unfortunate and stifles progress. Without going into the cause and effect of the troubles here I would not want the 50% of the population that consider themselves British to join a united Ireland unless they were comfortable with it. To me they are Irish with a strong British heritage and Irish nationalists need to embrace and treasure that part of their culture. Irish identity does not consist of only one story or part. In a weird way I'm proud of the progress that has been made by everyone here in a relatively short period of time (30 years) and I think its a testimate to the attitudes of the people that live here.
He saved my life, him personally, durning a bomb explosion in North Ireland,I only found out about this when I read his book in 2022,he talked about the situation, the bomb, the vehicle,i had never heard it from the other side before,it was a trauma but to hear after 30 years someone else involved, and for that person to have saved my life,I want to meet this man and shake his hand,I want to thank you Phill.
Wow! That's incredible. I understand you experienced trauma - I can't even imagine.
Are you okay talking about it now? Because I would love to hear more of what happened that day. Regards.
@@stephenalex4345 yes I am ok talking about it,I had always talked growing up about the bomb, and being so close to being killed at 11 or 12 years old,I alone with an older man were the only two involved in it,I never got to speak to the older man, there were others involved in the situation, like the police ( RUC ) and you don't get to talk to them in those days,it was just something that happen the situation was dealt with,my parents never discussed it with me either, but I do know my father tried to get in touch with the local IRA ( how set the bomb ) to complain, but was advised not to for his own safety.
So it was buried, and never spoke about,I think when you are young you just get on with things,I was a very outgoing child.
I always remembered the bomb van,the colour, and the registration, even know I was rushed past it by the police, after it had partly exploded, this was the only was out of the building I was in ( a snooker hall, right beside the police station - the bomb target )
The bomb was made safe by the bomb guy,Phill Campion was then clearing the seen and found a second booby trap detonator, and got the bomb made safe,if he hadn't have found it,we were all gone,it was a massive bomb.
I was working last summer renovating a shop ( I am a builder ) listing to his book on audio ( the book reading app ) and he started talking about his near death experience wile serving in northern Ireland, there was two incidents, first one he talked about then started to talk about the second, the year, the road, the van the colour....my body covered in goosebumps and I froze, which felt like forever, because I had always been the person explaining what had happen,to hear someone else who was there and learn the seriousness of what could have happen, and for that person to have saved my life was emotional,I think I cried after 30 odd years.
That's it really.
@@jpfox4329
Crazy isnt it, that "everyday life" in Ireland involved the potential for death, every day....
Walk to school, you might not make it...
My Irish friend, lost her neice to an attack, her neice was 18 and drove over a bridge that got taken out...she was a direct hit...
I was too young at the time to understsnd what that devastation meant....
Yet, you too would understand the trauma for kids living in war zones...
Write to the host..email/insta/twitter.and see if you can tee up a meet with Phil...?
All the best....
This is internet at its finest! Glad you made it! To tell the tale!
Glad you enjoyed this
20 minutes in and by far this is the greatest SAS guy I have ever seen. Lovely bloke. Love these interviews, really fascinating people. This guy is brilliant.
I had the pleasure of meeting Phil about 6 years ago at a Function in StHelens for exmilitary people , the event was absolutely brilliant with him as guest speaker, this man is a absolute treasurer and was a great pleasure in meeting him.
What a legend, you would never get bored with this guy's company in the local pub, he made a 1hr 40 min interview feel like 40 mins, made for great watching thanks.
Great interview with Phil... I worked with him and two of his SF mates protecting a large tanker from the piracy threat in the Gulf of Aden. He was great at the job, he kept my morale up constantly, and I thank him and his mates for getting us through the danger area safely... I was also brought up in a childrens home, and his talk on his experience brought tears to my eyes as it brought back memories. Bless you mate, I'm so glad you have found a way forward with what looks like a great new career!
And that is what is great about the UK forces and why they are the best in the world bar none….
Did you make sure you locked away the fridges so he couldn't throw them at someone 😂
What a guy Phil is - remarkable attitude considering the difficult start in life - hats off!
The best attitude I’ve ever come across 😊

Sexually , physically as mentally abused, a violent criminal who went on to enjoy shooting people, successful?
First class interviewer. How he keeps on track with these relentless funny anecdotes is impressive. Great character too, what a fascinating life.
Appreciate your kind words Peter!
Good man :-)
Such a humble and truthful guy who wouldn’t hesitate to back you in a tear up.
Phil is 100% definitely made for TV. He is so likeable, straightforward and charismatic. Any TV show that they put him in, i will 100% just love to watch and tell everyone else I know to also watch.
Plus, that survival book, Id buy that in a heart beat
Humble, personable, funny, and sincere. Thanks for all you do Big Fella.... respect
He is such a funny guy with a powerful story of resilience and overcoming trauma. 15 years working in Mental health I have met so many people who weren't able to move on from childhood trauma.
It never really goes away some of us are very good at covering it up and it was a different time. It turned out in my case i likely have ADHD and autism i say likely because I'm 43 and I'm still waiting for a diagnosis i have funding in place our healthcare system is up the creek it was a marvel not now. Plus I've been a addict we get a very low level of care i can assure you I've had two pulmonary oedemas from neglegence should have taken them to the cleaners taking money from the nhs doesn't sit well with me, yet i get treated like a well worse than a animal what gets me is I've never once tried to get drugs from a doctor or hospital or abused staff.
You need to try to sue them
This ends my Sky box
Thank you so much for your kind words it means a lot

I read his book some time ago, he's a real survivor, bigger than life and a man who you'd always want on your side. Good luck to you Big Phil
Big Phil is a top bloke, I'm ex army and you need blokes like this to keep your morale up, nothing seems to faze him and I bet he was a scream.
Dodge that was the best podcast you’ve done. What a man Phil is
This bloke is just full of character. He's an absolute legend. Could listen to him all day
Nice to hear an ex soldier who took the trouble to understand Ireland before he went. Not often you hear such a sensible view of the situation at that time. I salute you sir.
Not even finished and already know we need a part 2!... Class.👍
Leave with me for a part 2 Scott 👌🏼
Hats off to Phil. His sincerity in his story is so refreshing and so valuable and I'm sure he touches everyone who he cross paths with. Thanks for the episode
This man is a legend. Tells it how it is and doesn’t beat around the bush. They don’t make many like him 👍
Been on a few veterans marches with Phil, what a top genuine bloke, was more than happy to chat with us all and take photos with us.
Love this guy. So real, honest and funny to boot. Wish him all the luck he truly deserves
Phil everyday over Ant as he's real, not conceited and a geezzaaa!! Imagine the stories, not just about soldiering but what he's been up to through his life, great man!!👍

Tell me you wouldn’t walk 10 miles to have a pint with the legend that is Phil, and il show you someone who needs to have a word with themselves in the mirror.
Laughter, tears but overall respect. What a man.
Forget elite SAS solider. Phil is one of the funniest guys I have ever listened to 😂
Yeah a properly funny and loyal man is Phil 👍🏼👍🏼
I have been listening to so many ex SAS and military guys speaking on these podcast, they are all proper men with amazing personalities. For me though big Phil campion is a legend, he has an infectious personality and cracks me up every other sentance! Natural born entertainer, God speed to all our service men and women.
Awesome interview and badass dude. Love and respect from New York. I'm a Veteran myself so I love hearing the stories from members of the military from other countries.
This guy shows there is hope in the forces for young troubled lads great fella.
There's hours and hours worth of content from this guy. One of the best podcasts I've heard. Brilliant guest. The bit where he talks about the pirates and he yells "Oi" had me in bits 😂
Phil, I know someone who served with you. I am in awe of all of you who served.. who managed SAS. Love your openness to your past, your ability to have laughs in all situations.
I am so appalled with the wages with the risk of life.
I'm Australian and live in Sydney and was totally blown away by this interview . You are all amazing soldiers.
I love Monry Python.... so funny. Hats off to you
Great interview, what a legend. Somebody please make a movie about this man.
Yup. More of Phil on telly would be better than the crap we have shoved down our throats at the moment. He's funny, honest and a world of knowledge and that's a lot more than half the "talent". Bring it on. More Phil!👍
Big Phil always does a great interview, open and honest (and makes you smile)
One of the most enjoyable SF interviews I have watched. Dodge has a way of getting to the man behind the beret.
What an amazing man, he’s done so much but has no ego. I could listen to him all day.
Amazing guy Big Phil. Despite having a really difficult childhood, he's turned it to his advantage and is a role model to so many. Great personality and sense of humour. Dodge has brought out the best of Big Phil. Dare I say it I think he's a fit bloke❤
Thanks Barbara 🙏
The world needs people like big Phil, an absolute legend and funny to boot.
Not sure they make them like him anymore which is a shame! Phil is a proper good man 👍🏼👍🏼
@@DodgeWoodall he comes across as that mate, would have loved to have served with him, we had some nutters in our Battalion but I bet he'd give them a run for their money. 😂😂
Phil is a standup bloke, good sense of humour and very down to earth
Help Phil get his own podcast, PLEASE, great stuff Dodge keep it up.
Cheers Gary 👌🏼
I listen to podcasts constantly and could not agree more with Dodge's closing comment. One of the most authentic, interesting, funny and engaging chats I have heard in a long time. Thank you both. Big Phil, you are a great man.
What a lovely compliment Mark and appreciate your message 👍🏼👍🏼
What a great guy, totally genuine. Respect.
This is by far one of the most entertaining, emotional and funniest casts that I have seen.. Big Phil is a diamond in the rough and should be a huge Media star I really hope it happens for him..
Seen this interview around 30 times. What a masterpiece. Not only that has helped me a lot through my depression. And Im a psychotherapist myself. Thank you both for this and a special thank you to Phil. ❤
I can't even sit in a cinema for 1 hr an 40 min without needing a walk, I sat at my kitchen table for 1 hr an 40 min. Thank you Phil
What a absolutely brilliant watch with some crazy stories and I bet the stuff he can’t say much about is even more crazy. Phil comes across as a real genuine guy , the sort of bloke every one would like as a mate for a good laugh and even more for someone you can call on if you was in a pickle and needed someone who would back you all the way . Best podcast yet for me
Good man Paul 💪🏼
Completely agree that Big Phil should be more on TV, he's such a good storyteller he could make Forces news actually interesting rather than the monotone bore they have right now.
What a wonderful person Phil is to have such a sense of humour after his life experiences. Imagine a bad guy the last thing he sees is Phil with his funny jokes before he takes him out
As an American, I understood everything Dodge said, and about 43% of what Phil said.
Absolutely loved it. He is great.
😂😂😂😂😂
@emptytombprod I recently found Phil's podcast and it's awesome. Highly recommend it if you liked this interview
Best interviews, best guest, best interviewer. Gets the most out of people
Thanks fella 🙏
Phil and dodge I could listen to this interview a thousand times. I suffer with depression and everytime I watch this it makes me laugh so much, thank you both so much ❤
This is THE best interview I've seen on this channel. You and Phil have helped me to realise a lot of things about my past, and future, over the last 1hr 30. Thankyou ❤
Just screen shotted this to Big Phil and that has just made our day Sam 💛
This guy is real laugh. I bet he brightened up every troop he was in.
Love this bloke. Hasn't got his head up his arse like Middleton, proper honest bloke. I could talk to him for hours over a beer
I'm fortunate enough to be able to listen to a lot of podcasts - I've got to say this is one of the best I've heard. Quality guest. Part 2 please! 👍
Kind words Shaun and Part 2 is on its way! 💎
Can't wait.
He's absolutely class, could listen to him forever - what a fella
Wow, what a geezer.
Great role model, honest and very entertaining.
Thanks
This man comes with the highest credentials and our freedom's are thanks to him and his brothers in arms. Legendary, truly a living legend...
Read Phil's book a couple of years ago, no sensationalism, sometimes it was dull (compared with some of his colleagues) which made me believe that it was all true and a faithful account of his career. Best wishes Mr C.
you know what i really really like about Phil Campion, he always finds a positive out of a negative.. top man Phil
I have listened to multiple interviews from this channel... This, I must say, is my favourite so far. What an absolute character; informative, funny and zero ego.
We all love Phil and listening to his stories. Just don't see enough of him lately.
Been following Phil for a quite a while now. An Army vet myself, I enjoy what he has to say. Got his SAS Survival Guide book a few years ago. Great read.
Do you think shooting people is fun as well ?
These interviews are outstanding.. Phil is an absolute legend and myself and the wife haven’t listened as intently or laughed so much in a long time!! Dodge’s interview style is second to none.. there’s no ego, fantastic open questions and the interviewee just says it as it is!!👍🏼👍🏼
Another absolutely gripping episode! I really hope Big Phil makes it into TV somewhere. There’s certainly a place for him. What a legend!
You are spot on about that one brother, he has presence, he is interesting, he can tell stories, he is humble, funny, honest and more..
He has the abilty to make it and do a cracking job ..
Have watched hundreds of different podcats and this is one of the best .... what a guy
Top man Phill..
I've read his autobiography, HUGE respect.
You notice something fairly quick with Phil. Whether he's talking about his harsh upbringing, brutal SAS selection, the horrors of war or any of the other hard situations he's found himself in during his life, he almost immediately says the words "to look at the positives of it." That's the outlook of a winner. A survivor. Inspirational bloke.
I've read all Big Phils books and they are fantastic. Truly a real role model for people of all ages.
One of the greatest story tellers I’ve ever heard. The genuineness of this guy heads such credence to them. Would be great to hear other stories and sad to hear about his troubled youth but I hope it gives people strength to speak up.
Considering how many people leave the forces with PTSD etc, it's amazing that this fella isn't phased in the slightest. Sounds like he loved every minute.
He’d probably score pretty high on the psychopathy scale. Not all psychopaths are bad people, they’ve usually experienced some kind of abuse or neglect but some are soldiers, firefighters, air-sea rescue etc etc, just depends on their inherent personality and the course their life takes.
Generally speaking they are thrill-seekers and don’t feel fear (or empathy) like the rest of us.
We should be thankful that people like this exist, they put themselves in harm’s way so the rest of us can live peaceful lives.
He's got a brain going 1000mph, and he's in story telling mode. But you can still see his emotions sometimes. Definitely not a psychopath.
@@Squeeeezhe holds it together very well.
Not sure I'd fancy being around when he flipped the switch
We need more people on tv like Phil not less, his story is so familiar and the problem is it was thought of as the norm back in the day.
Good luck with whatever comes next Phil. You're a natural story teller and a smashing guy. Looking forward to seeing / hearing more of you.
What an inspiration. When my kids grow up I’d be so proud if they turned out half the man he is…
What a brilliant bloke Phil Campion is - Great interview and great stories.
That is without doubt one of THE best podcast I’ve ever seen . What an amazing character, I need to buy his books now . Truly superb Dodge for letting him tell his story . Absolutely top class from you both .

This guy is so genuine and funny I get bored with podcasts usually but I watched this in what seems a blink . RESPECT to you sir . I'm surprised Netflix hasn't called you yet . You would do good there. RESPECT
I only put this on to fill 5 minutes, but listened all the way through, and loved every minute. I want to hear more!!
Phil is an absolute legend, fantastic career and a proper funny fella
Absolutely loved this. What a life Phil has lived. I didn't want this to end. Loved your questioning when Phil just briefly mentioned a few things you went back and asked him about it and it was even more about his life. What an absolute brilliant fella.
Dodge, also from Bournemouth. When they say ‘styles make fights’ it lends itself to ‘characters make podcasts’! Absolutely hilarious. Probably the first time I’ve actually laughed out loud on a podcast. What a chap.
Yeah a proper good bloke is Phil and so funny too 😂
That was the best podcast I’ve ever seen ,it had the lot. Who don’t love big Phil !!!
Ppl like this are true heroes. I’m a catholic , from immigrant family who came from Ireland to galsgow and ppl may think that makes me think a certain way and I do have some views on the British army etc but this guy is a hero , simple as a true hero

26,000 fantastic people and we’re only just getting warmed up.
Glad you enjoying Robin 🙏😊
He should definitely do an audio book. He knows how to narrate his story
Absolutely fantastic. Had to press pause until I stopped laughing, because I was in stitches, at the lollipop job offer from the daftie in the job centre. Phil’s humour is a real attribute to him - and fantastic to watch - bellying a steeliness and clear intelligence of someone who left SF with still much more to achieve. Dodge is the Interviewer Supremo with undoubtedly one of the best guests so far.
Phil is an excellent ambassador for the best characters to come out of the forces, and the truth that needs to be told about life, but so often isn’t. It is so refreshing to watch and listen to him across his media platforms. Especially as he shares his personal and career evolution. And his book, which I have recently got, will be a great read. People like Phil - there are a few about if you are lucky enough to bump into them; each one of them unique, multi-talented, and endlessly fascinating - are an inspiration and a credit to their country. Often highly performing but over-looked by those higher up the ranks, and in Civvie Street, unnecessarily targeted by over-zealous Police on a bad day, using trumped up charges, and who have no idea of what it actually takes to be a disciplined and highly efficient operator for the British authorities with little thanks. Unfortunately, his is not the only story of the Police acting in this way. And it is good that it was covered in the interview.
Veterans are often misunderstood and left unsupported when the opposite should be happening. Respect to Mr Campion and his fantastic partner who clearly is his stoicist supporter. And thank you Dodge for providing such a platform for truth and hilarity, and inspiring, gripping stories of daring deeds and lifetime experiences most of us will never have. To live them through the interviews on your podcast is a real treat.
The best to Phil and Wendy.
Looking forward to when you have Big Phil Campion back on!
NB. Also, Phil demonstrated great insight, knowledge, and compassion towards the situation in Northern Ireland. This is unusual in most people, let alone an ex-forces person.
His big heart is incredible given the lack of love and compassion he experienced growing up. Born good.
Wow what lovely words about Big Phil and he’s one hell of a human being!
It also makes me happy that I can give people a platform to tell their story whilst trying to get the best out of our guests.
Good man 👍🏼👍🏼

These guys work hard to get in the Regiment, I remember my brother tried to get in, he was in the Welsh guards in the early 70's, unfortunately he broke his ankle near the end of the first month and was returned to unit. I was in the army at he same time and remember one of the lads that was Para REME and went for it, he never came back, so i take it he made it. Fair play to him. I have the utmost respect for all the lads in the SAS they do a good job.100%
