I was at this show. This was one of the most magical performances I've heard Dylan and the band do. Probably my favorite time I saw him: The setlist was so varied. Acoustic and electric. The band was fantastic during 1999-2004. Bob was having fun and you can tell they all felt the energy in the room. The playing dynamics were amazing and It was a really clean sound. I remember it being very hot that day and I don't think Bob sweated the whole time. I wondered how he could wear a suit when it was so hot in the venue? It didn't slow him down. Played great! I really enjoyed hearing them play this song and was hoping I'd hear it that night. Thank you for recording/sharing! Brought back great memories! I still have the poster from that show too!
Was at this show. Also the Augusta one (didn't go to Newport). ... One notable difference between this Worcester concert & the Augusta show is in Worcester there was only one microphone on center stage which was shared on harmonies & Augusta there were 3 mics. Doesn't mean much to most, but a little detail for the fellow Dylan obsessives out there. - Thanks for the upload & be well
Was at both of those shows, too! The Highwater in Augusta blew my mind. And that setlist--jeez. I don't remember loving Worcester, but I might have just been in a better mood at Augusta. Cheers!
@@markklimek2657 Augusta sticks out a lot more to me as well. ... The whole show ripped. Was a lot tighter all around over the Worcester show. ... Bob was clearly in great form. Back playing in his regular type of setting after Newport ... And guessing he most certainly got a kick out of all the newspaper attention equipped with the wig photos & whatnots
@@georgiasam4151 I went with a friend to Augusta. Recall him saying his standouts were Never Going To Be The Same Again (mostly due to the arrangement with guitar solos, solo), & Heavens Door. Mine were Hummingbird (best version IMO), Man In Me, If You See Her, & Cold Irons Bound. Show is most known for High Water. Bob was very animated during the start of the song with big smiles and clapping his hands over his head. .... Twas surely a highlight for all in attendance that evening. Not sure if it's on the ER list or not, but the bootleg, Acoustic Man In Augusta, is the best capture I've heard. - Be well & takes it smooth 🤘✌️
@@georgiasam4151 ....... bobsboots.com/CDs/cd-a54.html = bobsboots write-up. Looking at the setlist I also recall Bob nailing Hattie Carroll, but don't believe the recording gives it its proper justice. .... I have it on silver discs, but haven't listened to it for a while.
Hey Georgia Sam! I’m willing to risk getting emotional with this because Bob is just plain irresistible whether I laugh, cry, or I don’t know what? Good thing I wrote that quick because this song is in full swing now and I am losing my faculties! Thanks cuz.!
Hi. Nissi. Bob Dylan is always going to be Emotionally yours and mine. No one writes love songs like Bob. He is The Master and Commander of verse. Take care.
I'm walkin' through the summer nights The jukebox playing low Yesterday everything was goin' too fast Today it's movin' too slow I got no place left to turn I got nothin' left to burn Don't know if I saw you if I would kiss you or kill you It probably wouldn't matter to you anyhow You left me standing in the doorway cryin' I got nothin' to go back to now The light in this place is so bad Makin' me sick in the head All the laughter is just makin' me sad The stars have turned cherry red I'm strummin' on my gay guitar Smokin' a cheap cigar The ghost of our old love has not gone away Don't look it like it will anytime soon You left me standin' in the doorway cryin' Under the midnight moon Maybe they'll get me and maybe they won't But not tonight and it won't be here There are things I could say, but I don't I know the mercy of God must be near I been ridin a midnight train Got ice water in my veins I would be crazy if I took you back It would go up against every rule You left me standin' in the doorway cryin' Sufferin' like a fool When the last rays of daylight go down Buddy, you're old no more I can hear the church bells ringin' in the yard I wonder who they're ringin' for? I know I can't win But my heart just won't give in Last night I danced with a stranger But she just reminded me you were the one You left me standin' in the doorway cryin' In the dark land of the sun I eat when I'm hungry, drink when I'm dry And live my life on the square And even if the flesh falls off of my face I know someone will be there to care It always means so much Even the softest touch I see nothing to be gained by any explanation There's no words that need to be said You left me standin' in the doorway cryin' Blues wrapped around my head
One of the bootleg series had those couple songs that Dylan "cannibalized" to get this song. Stole some of the lyrics for Standing In The Doorway from these other songs. When the Penn station was "sampling it".. the younger host said "wow why didn't he put this song out".. and I'm thinking "because he gutted it for three verses". Always think of Bob.. or anybody really.. with a blank sheet and typewriter. It ain't always working that way.

I'm walkin' through the summer nights
The jukebox playing low
Yesterday everything was goin' too fast
Today it's movin' too slow
I got no place left to turn
I got nothin' left to burn
Don't know if I saw you if I would kiss you or kill you
It probably wouldn't matter to you anyhow
You left me standing in the doorway cryin'
I got nothin' to go back to now
The light in this place is so bad
Makin' me sick in the head
All the laughter is just makin' me sad
The stars have turned cherry red
I'm strummin' on my gay guitar
Smokin' a cheap cigar
The ghost of our old love has not gone away
Don't look it like it will anytime soon
You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
Under the midnight moon
Maybe they'll get me and maybe they won't
But not tonight and it won't be here
There are things I could say, but I don't
I know the mercy of God must be near
I been ridin a midnight train
Got ice water in my veins
I would be crazy if I took you back
It would go up against every rule
You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
Sufferin' like a fool
When the last rays of daylight go down
Buddy, you're old no more
I can hear the church bells ringin' in the yard
I wonder who they're ringin' for?
I know I can't win
But my heart just won't give in
Last night I danced with a stranger
But she just reminded me you were the one
You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
In the dark land of the sun
I eat when I'm hungry, drink when I'm dry
And live my life on the square
And even if the flesh falls off of my face
I know someone will be there to care
It always means so much
Even the softest touch
I see nothing to be gained by any explanation
There's no words that need to be said
You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
Blues wrapped around my head

Yep, thanks Tom! Dylan’s always moving, always changing, always tweaking... constantly in motion. “Dreamin’ of You” was the earlier version
