Yes, I know I'm pronouncing it wrong.
This is a test of the few Kärchers that I actually have the fittings for. The rest of the pressure washers will be tested once I have fittings that allow me to get pressure readings.

@Obsessed Garage
Thank you for compiling this.
I recently purchased the Karcher 1700 premium setup from you and I am very pleased with it so far.
Absolutely brilliant compilation of data. Thanks for spending the time to do this. You know anyone watching this is a little Obsessed!
Thank you so much for your amazing work on this stuff. When my karcher dies ill be buying a cube from ya! Maybe even before ;)
The link isn't working
This link does not work
The issue with air may be because you are trying to prime it without a nozzle on the end. the reason why this is a thing is the Soap injectors are venturi based, so when there is no back pressure, the soap injector is injecting air or soap into the line. I have tested this myself with a much older K2 i have, which has said soap injector.
Using the wand without a nozzle (has a gentle 40 degree or so unrestricted spray built in) results in soap or air.
As soon as i put a restriction on the wand like a proper nozzle or my Bowdens Foam Cannon, the air bleeds out then stops within seconds, even on some 12.5 meters of hose.
What you should do, is leave the nozzle on for priming the high pressure hose, and make sure the inlet line is fully primed, then turn her on and just let her run, she will sort herself out decently fast.
The other thing you could do is simply fill the soap tank with water so it doesnt suck air.
I was about to write the same thing
I did it both ways. These took 5 minutes to clear the air out.
I could get not get mine to work, tried what you did and started working immediately thanks!
I just got a K2000 and tried what you said and it worked!
I just bought the K1700 because of this review....thanks Matt! Yes the air can be an issue. What I do before I turn the power on is, I take a strap of velcro I use to keep the high pressure hose together, & wrap it around the trigger of the gun letting the water run while I get all my other crap together & filled. Usually gives me a few minutes of letting the water run.
I appreciate all the leg work, I’ve been researching for hours on a new electric pressure washer.
Which one did you end up getting? How’s it working out?
While shopping for a fairly basic preasure washer to wash cars, I have watched dozens of reviews. Has been so frustrating when they say "feels like it is giving the preasure advertised" or " you can just tell it is as powerfull as they promised" All I could think about is how easy it would be to test and confirm they perform as their spec sheets promote.. Sir, you are a prayer answered and I only wished Iwould have found this video series before I flipped a coin to make my purchase. I am inspired to watch all your test and buy another with some feeling that I will now know just what I will be getting..
Thank you for your efforts in this video series.
My god man. Some of the best reviews I've seen. I'm as confused as ever on which one to spend my hard earned money on as an all around pressure washer.
Really?? He just grumbled a lot and acted pissed off.
the hit marker was a good touch
This guy gives the most thorough reviews I've seen. Great vids!! Got my SUB!!
Thanks Matt ... just picked up the 1700 cube for under $130 to go with my separate hose & your mosmatic gun assembly!
Watching you struggle through testing junk pressure washers has been a real treat. It’s like watching Chris Harris reviewing a 2003 Honda Odyssey.
LOL... he actually reviewed a Citroen 2CV... that was really funny to watch ;) For some reason he did not do any drifting with it :)
Everyone should know that Karcher makes top notch equipment.
Was just on amazon looking at the sun joe pro. Funny how many reviews/questions are from people that have obviously been watching your videos. Keep up the great work Matt!
Turbo nozzle is a pencil jet that is then spun in a clockwise fashion to create a larger area but without losing any of the power of the pencil. That's why you must be careful when using a turbo nozzle. Turbo are great for tractors and other 3in thick mud and stuff but I wouldn't recommend using on body although it won't hurt it if the paint is still good but it's quite tough on the paint.
So is the TL;DW of this series basically, buy a Karcher k1700, then slap an aftermarket hose and MTM gun/cannon? (since 95% of us can't afford a 1000$+ Kranzle)
Bingo.
Any recommendations on the hose + MTM gun/cannon to grab with this?
Ryan Moyer
Check out his website!
It’s all there.
Tfw Matt doesn't tear the 1700 cube apart. 😊
For the record, I've been really happy with my 1700 cube, just need to pick up a good hose now.
"Well I just stuck my fingers in front of it and made a choice!" Lol... I do the same thing in my career as a machinist.... How u know that's a 32 finish? Well I just rubbed my fingernails on the surface... Haha
Matt is playing Tetris with all those pressure washer boxes back there.
Coming in clutch with the Friday night video!
That Tacoma is going to have the cleanest left front ever.
MX304 Best comment!
He is also going to develop huge traps from hauling buckets full of water back and forth all day
Got the k1700 cube for 90$ amazon prime
We don’t have those Cube models in the UK. Never seen them before. I’ve always had Karcher since I bought my first one in the early 90’s. In that 25+ years I’ve had 3. My current 6.8 is over 10 years old. I’ve had it that long I can’t remember when I got it. It used to be the case that the K5 onwards (if memory serves) used a different spec motor with all metal parts rather than some plastic components that the K2’s etc had. So the higher number models were very reliable. I’ve read on a forum recently that Karchers aren’t what they once were and made in China now. I’ve never had a problem with them and my pretty ancient 6.8 is still going strong. It’s been used pretty much every week it’s whole life. I’ve been waiting for it to go so I can try something else but it won’t break!
In the UK it’s Kranzle, Karcher and Nilfisk that appear to be the ones that are the most popular with detailing enthusiasts.
Your videos are great... very appreciated... You seem to be losing steam... Your videos are not a waste of your time. Hang in there.
The reason why you have an issue with air is that its pulling air from the soap tank, I fill mine with a splash of water and it takes 10 seconds to get the air out of the line.
K1700/1800 have universal motors, k1900/2000 run induction.
I am pretty sure Kartcher (SP?) is the company that makes the pressure washer machines for Simoniz. If so, the connector on the reel is M14 if memory serves. I did not try to find an adaptor for it, I just used a M22-14 to M22-15 and added a second 30 feet hose as an extension. If you can find a M14 to M22-14 that would be amazing. Been waiting for this part of the test since you started, really happy you got to it. Eager to see the charts once you are done with the testing.
14:33 All I need to know. Thanks Matt!
Really interested to see what system you develop for the k4 if you do. I’ll buy for sure if it can get me the thicker foam. I’m from Trinidad in the Caribbean so I don’t have a wide range of parts available locally to test. Ordering untested parts online can get pretty pricey if they don’t work as advertised. Your testing is giving me a lot of valuable info.
Waiting for the K4, K5 and K7 video. Thanks Matt for the great work 👍🏻
k7 is UK spec so you cant simply plug it into an USA outlet.
True, a good amount of Matt fans and customers live outside the US, including myself. Also, if you are truly after the GPM (2.6 for the K7) the 220v is the way to go. You will need an electricity converter box for that to work in the US (approx $70-90)
@@aaoaaa transformers will burn the motor faster and importing the unit is a pain in itself.
@Swagura Mutsuki - Telling you from first hand experience it wont. I imported my K7 from Dubai and it was super smooth. Also, I imported high end coffee shop coffee machine with double boilers to the US when I was in the US few years ago and they use 220v and require very high watts due to the heating process. I got a quality electricity converter and it worked flawlessly for years without issues
@@aaoaaa for the cost of importing it I would just buy something better 🤷♀️
I don’t know why I like these videos probably because I like seeing Matt get frustrated
Lol, the progression of his frustration in each video. Gotta give him credit though, I would have been done after about 3 machines.
I just purchased the k1900 and I find that the air bleeds out way quicker when the pressure washer is not turned on. This seems opposite of you would expect. Anyone else experience this as well?
I declare you... Pressure washer King! Great work Matt.
Just an fyi, u can fill the bucket for 10 seconds multiply by 6, 15 seconds multiply by 4, it coukd speed the entire process of this up. However it may be more reliable for an entire min i guess.
Anyway ur attention to detail is above anyone. Esp in regards to helping make life look better and work easier.
Good comparison of Karcher models, definitely helps when shopping. Why don't you move your scale outside to avoid walking back & forth😊
He does that to make it seem more dramatic........... Geeeeez!!!
Every time Matt likes a cheap pressure washer it is one that is hard to find
was pretty hype he liked the one i decided to get a while back when i was way less educated haha
Dramaadzn which one was it?
I can't believe he hates the sunjoe but likes this one. I had a sunjoe then wanted these karchers and none of them worked! Went throught 3 and then one warranty replacement and same fucking junk. I'm surprised. Went back to my sunjoe
Funny he sells karcher
The k1900-2000 uses a induction motor instead of universal like all the other pressure washer which is more complex, heavy, and theoretically more durable. It’s supposed to be quieter too but guess not for those models. It’s the equivalent to the brushless motors u tested before.
When I was scouting out pressure washers, the k5 Has a water cooled induction motor so that should be very quiet so I’m interested to see if it’s true.
k4 and up have way better pumps, but the uk version of trhe k series pout out way more gpm, the uk K4 puts out 2.4 gpm(box rating).
Matt, really enjoy your content first of all! I love the testing you do since as an engineer (chemical) I love details and real world specs. However, can you make a summary video and give your overall opinion on the entry lvl solutions (i.e. ryobi is crap, karcher would be the best followed by the .......). Would really appreciate it!
Damn. This is thorough. Thank you.
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that there’s a solution to the crappy connection on the K5 hose.
Matt, just found your channel and have been watching intently. Just ordered the K1700 Cube for washing the cars and light jobs around the house. At 6:52, you mention 3.0 1000 psi. What does the 3.0 nozzle represent? Is this related to the tip in the gun you have attached? Also, when do you think you will have the accessories up for the Karchers? Thanks for all you are doing. Dream job - playing with guy toys and helping other car guys at that same time. Bravo!
3.0 is the size of hole in the nozzle. The smaller the number, the more pressure. All Karchers are done except K2, K3, K4, and K5.
@@ObsessedGarage Thanks, I thought so as I related this to tips in an airless sprayer.
Also beware make sure before each use you bleed that machine with the nozzle on it. The air in that will eventually mess up the pump
fleet tech are you saying to do that before turning on the pump?
@@pcarfan1676 Yes.. connect everything turn on the wAter and pull the trigger and let the wAter flow for about a minute, you will hear the air as that is being done. After that is finished then turn on the unit and work it
Thanks!
I did that for 5 straight minutes with then without the nozzle.
Paid $99.99 for the K1700 from Lowes during the Veterans day sale last year. Nice little pressure washer. The great thing is you can bring it inside and spray down a shower stall.
My k4 takes about 15 seconds to clear the air in the system. The dealer told me to let it run for 30sec to clear it or longer if it still has but never had to go longer.
I love yur face ưhen you smile Matty. Keep it up uncle!
I see those wheels in the background 😎👏🏼
Those are the Apex track set that came with the 1M. I'll be selling those soon.
I know this is okder but still very relevant. I very much as well appreciate this
Why not find a shell u like, buy motors and find good electronics and put ur own together, 2 entry-level models and 2 professional models.
So would you say that the K1700 performs better than the K1800-K2000 pressure washer?
The distance between that WRX lip and the concrete stop fixes me anxiety....
I picked up a K1700 Cube locally today and paired it with my MTM Premium 1 Pro Kit. I didn't get anywhere near as nice of foam as you did on the PF22 with the 1.1 (Chemical guys Honeydew with approx 60ml in the bottle with warm water). However I also noticed when I hit the trigger there is a big "lag" right after the initial spurt before the pressure gets up so I'm suspecting an inlet issue first (using Gardena hose and fittings). I'll test with a short 5/8 leader hose direct to the K1700 and see if that solves it and also try more soap. Otherwise it is a nice little unit and would fit on a shelf great though that foot pedal is handy! So nice to see the outlet is standard.
All of your problems can be solved here. Ha, ha... www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/karcher-accessories
Way do they cut off frequently? I purchased a karcher 1900 psi today,,,,. Thanks for the video Sir 👍👍 ,,,, how long can it run constantly for??? From Trinidad
Matt, any thoughts about trying out the Hotsy pressure washers? Looking forward to your review of the Comet.
Those are nice for Hot water applications, but they are massive.
Just subscribed thanks for all your hard work its going to pay off I promise you
Thanks man!
i have a karcher k3, its a great entry level pressure washer, it just that smells like burn after 10min of continue use lol
I purchased a K1900 in 2018 and within a short period of time the machine locked up and I couldn't get any water to come out of the nozzle. After many attempts at undoing the hoses, etc. the company sent me a new unit under warranty. The new unit, which I received in 2019, acted the same way. It would lock up all the time like a vapor lock in the hose and sometime the motor would not kick on. Probably on used this machine 6 or 8 times before it froze up for good. Poor quality machine in my opinion. Roy Ortolon
Karcher is made cheap .All plastic.Mine leaked internally after 3 months. It was a throwaway as the part which was plastic to be purchased and installed costs more than buying a new karcher...So I bought another brand
I have a k1700. The air is annoying. Otherwise it’s been pretty good. I have a different hose and a cheap aftermarket gun though.
So I have the k4. Had to get the adapter for my amazon canon. I’m new to the foaming game. I still don’t get thick foam like what you are getting but I’m still playing with my mixtures. I thought at first it was because of the psi being too low (k4 1800psi) but I see you are getting great foam with the same. Side note, my drive way is small but the rotating head that comes with the k4 cleaned it well lol. The foam I get is rich but not shaving cream type like you get. Do you think it’s the gun itself?
First issue is your crappy foam cannon. Second is it probably has the wrong sized orifice.
Obsessed Garage ok, I see. I was checking out your site and I see you have the adapters I need to put the mosmatic handle on my karcher. Will grab that and the proper canon when I get some cash.
Why didnt you put the weighing scale outside? easyer then walking back and forth with a bucket :)
Been waiting for this review
I picked up a 1700, I can only get 1400 PSI with factory equipment and changing out hose and gun II get same. Going to 2.5 orifice gets me barely 900. Am I doing something wrong?
Playing around with "will fit" aftermarket nozzles without matching manufacturers orfice diameter size is looking for trouble
It would be great if you could sometime down the line could test "Nilfisk's" pressure washers if that is something you could get your hands on in the US. They have a very big lineup of washers from very cheap to very expensive. It would be very helpful to have someone like you test their lineup and find out what is worth it and whats not. They are at least pretty big here in Norway, and I would guess also in Europe.
I just talked with Nilfisk USA. They don't offer the lower end machines here. They only have one pump.
@@ObsessedGarage Ok, but thanks anyway for checking it out :)
Do you think you're ever going to analyse the Nilfisk product line? Completely unsure how to adapt my current E150.2 to work with a higher end gun.
We can't get them here in the US.
Sir whats most likely the problem when your Karcher1900 keep pulsating and not building pressure? Leakage? Is it fixable?
When will the k1900 be fore sale? I am very interested in it.
You can have it now if you'd like. Email me matt@obsessedgarage.com
Like always video intro is perfect lol
I know you would retest but it seems like the initial start is different for every model from each brand. I wonder what the GPM would be if you started each one for 5 seconds and then put it in the bucket to given them an even playing field. You could have also used an in-line flow meter but I know those are expensive.
I don’t think the difference would be huge but I think these models would have slightly higher GPM if not for the weird start up. A couple seconds could mean .05 of a difference.
I started them all the same, so the info is good enough for me.
i'm confused as to why we are setting a goal of around 1000psi instead of using the set up out of the box
Seems to be the ideal pressure to wash a car with, without damage to the paint.
I think it's perfect for car washing You don't want to come too close with 1700psi and the water flow should be sufficient
because you aren't trying to remove the paint from your car, just the dirt. Lowering pressure increases flow.
Matt would be proud we all learned so much 😀
Might work in Florida, but I wouldn't get my car clean with 1000 psi (unfortunatly). Also need to use mineral spirits for every weekly wash to remove millions of tar spots. Never move to Sweden, ha ha.
I have a K1800 and I attached a hose to it, turned water on, and the hose popped/tore at the connection. Cheap hose i guess.
Thanks for all your hard work Matt
BE Pressure Washers AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!
They are a bit lazy to me. I'm not a huge fan other their design. They are a lot like Cam Sprayer.
@@ObsessedGarage thanks for Reply , thinking of Down grading from gas to small Electric . less smell and noise .
how did the K5 pan out?
I have the Karcher cube I want to use the 40 degree nozzle tip what orifice do I need to use , what do you recommend????? Plz help
Not that this wouldn't be a little redundant and perhaps you already mentioned it, but are you planning on a final thoughts video for this project?
Yes, there are many more videos that I will need to do to get this all worked out.
I'd love to see Matt run these test on the krenzla and the monster machine in his awesome wash bay !!
I will shortly.
I'd like to find something between a junk washer and a Kranzle.
I cannot wait to put your COMPLETE MTM SWIVELING SPRAYER & WAND SOLUTION on my K5 until the 1152 TS shows up! 😎😎
Its pronounced like Kercher :P, but i assume these are good, since its german and theyre very popular in europe. I was planning on getting one of these, but i will await your test results and how they compare prize, quality and spec wise to the Kranzle.
Can I switch to a mossmatic gun on my k1700 without changing the hose? I honestly don't mind the hose but my gun just broke plz help =)
Great review, unfortunately I bought the K2000, but honestly satisfied for a non business user. I'm tired out of the cheap hose, please tell me where I can get your blue one and of course the adaptor. Thank you!
I'll have that all worked out in the next week or two at www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/karcher-accessories.
How does the Simpson Clean Machine 2300 compare
Great video series. When you say at 7:02 that your pulling 12.8amps which is less power how do you figure your overworking it if it was drawing 15amps before? Letting the system build back pressure I would figure is just harder for all the pump parts to push water through the nozzle?
What I'm looking for is a spike. If the pump was drawing 13 amps when using the regular gun and then jumped to 18 amps when using the foam cannon, that would be a red flag that we were overworking the pump.
@@ObsessedGarage Great. Thanks for clarifying.
Pretty dam expensive for those Karchers...ill go with greenworks
Debating on a 1700 vs a 1900... the induction motor / triplex pump in the 1900 should, in theory last at lease twice as long as the universal in the 1700 correct? My thought is the 1700 has better flow but at the cost of needing replaced every couple years at most where the 1900 should last at least a decade or more for less than twice the cost of the 1700?
And just for fun, I have a lathe and made several custom foam cannon nozzles from 0.8mm to 1.2mm and didn't notice any difference in foam using any of the sizes but with the smaller orifice the pressure washer sounded like it was struggling, a lot. I settled on 1.05mm as the machine didn't sound like it was working so hard. Maybe the washer I currently have just isn't really up to the task. Several nozzles, soaps, concentrations... no real discernible difference . I've never got foam like in this vid.
All the Karcher consumer stuff is 70-120 hour capable. The 1900 user experience isn't very good. All of these are just throw away machines every few years of normal use.
@@ObsessedGarage Ah, gotcha, thanks! I was expecting more from an induction motor unit. :-(
Seems the $249 Greenworks 2200 brushless, despite it's ramp up time, is the best big box option. 1050 PSI flowing at 1.9 GPM with the 4.0 nozzle 👍.
I wouldn't choose it. The ramp up time is really, really annoying.
@@ObsessedGarage So given the options you'd get from a big box store like Lowes, you'd sacrifice flow for convenience?
All of these pretty crappy, so a lot of it will come down to acceptable amount of output and then user experience. I think the Karcher 1700, Ryobi 1600, and Greenworks 2000 are the best this far.
@@ObsessedGarage would you test the Greenworks 2300 (looks like it's new) to see if it still has the delay issue?
Would you recommend karcher 1700 or Westinghouse 1500 psi
Can someone confirm if the model #1810 also rated at 1800 from Home Depot will accept OG advanced package?? TIA
What are the model name for these range? I can’t seem to find them on the Karcher Australia / International websites. We’ve only got the K2-K7 available for sale
Whats the best value pressure washer for car washing?
I am trying to add a Surface Maxx wand to this ..and i cannot get connection loose
Did you add the quick release to the wand on the 1900? All the 1900 models I've seen screw together.
Yes, 1900 works well with QDs.
So is the k1700 the way to go?
I think so.
Wich karcher was the best PSi and GPM ????
What upgrades do you recommend to a stock 1700 cube?
Karcher ftw
Wich /;what is the better karcher or anovi reberveri sory my englis is not good i am from Argentina
Ill be picking up a 1700 and upgrading everything but the unit itself. Now I just have to decide if I want the cube or the one with wheels.
Which did you get?
@@gyeoxn7815 cube
@@johnnelwhite ah, thinking of getting the one with wheels
Idk Matt, this looks like a winner for me with the Ryobi
Ryobi was lightyears better in my opinion my 2 karcher was leaking.
Please update the link - Thanks
What is the advantage of use if that inlet hose? Think I have a pritty good 50ft hose that I can use for the inlet if it fits. At the end of the day a hose is a hose right?
I'm don't think you are asking the correct question. You'd need a shorter hose if you didn't want to lug out an entire 50ft. hose.
Which karcher you recommend? I’m planing to buy one for detailing cars
1700
I feel like these machines GPM's are rated with no nozzles a lot of the time or something. I would imagine you get more throughput that way. But I'm not really sure, just hypothesizing.
Yeah, they generally rate it a 100 PSI which isn't really possible to achieve.
@@ObsessedGarage Ah yeah that's what I figured, Do you plan to test the Sun Joe SPX9004-PRO? It's rated at a lower PSI but 2GPM. I'm not sure how accurate those are but it looks like it's a more serious unit and almost half the price of the Comet.
Nevermind looks like you did test it and I missed it lol.
