I'm not a bassist, and I don't have any intention of ever buying a double bass. I just get this really nice relaxing feeling listing to the Maestro talk.

A national treasure! My wife and I got tickets to see him in Cambridge, MA. He stepped into the elevator as we went to our room and he happened to be in the room right next to us. I couldn't sleep I was so excited. My wife was like, "You know he's a MAN, right?!"

I can't wait to be able to order my own Ron Carter merchandise. The Autobiography "Finding the Right Notes" is a must read. I got mine from the Bass shop that actually serviced Mr Carters Bass. It was even autograph by Mr. Cater. The shop has photos of a lot of Bass players all over the place. The holidays are coming and what perfect gift to share and support our favorite musician and his team.

Mr Carter, you are such a wonderful and kind person. When you hit the stage, none of that changes. Generous in your guidance of the beat. My playing will never get to your level, but you inspire me to try. But more importantly, you are a role model on how to live. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and yourself. Peace

Curious as to when this was recorded. He looks so much different here than he did at the ISB conference at the University of Indiana last summer. So much younger and energetic. Good health and happiness to you my brother. Your impact on the double bass and all things musical is a legacy that will stand forever.

Great advice! After checking out at least 100 3/4 carved basses, I ended my search w/ a shen sb 300 5/8 highly figured that I kept coming back to, got a great deal, and it sounded fantastic over the entire fingerboard, and has a 39" mensure. Has same bridge curvature Go figure.

If anything I go with cleanest tone. Some uprights are too percussive and buzzy tone. The action could effect it. The sustain has gotta be as long as the note can hold tone. That’s what I would look for if I was in the market. I’m considering doing a custom groove upright as my ultimate show piece. I’d need to test them 1st.
Your lucky with your height and arm Length to give you such a perfect position. I’d be interested to hear you speak on adding pickups or mic the bass plus adding after FX like reverb or chorus to it. You seem more traditional like keeping pure tone.

Thanks for the tips! Do you have much experience with electric uprights? I've been considering getting one of those. Also, the sound effects really take this video to a whole new level

Maestro - can you trace the bridge and maybe put it in PDF? I’d like to see what you like. I’m trying to make a decision on a new bass. Rabbath has a nice C shape , Richard Davis has a slight taper, etc. it’s interesting to see what folks prefer.
Also why do you prefer the shape? Bow feel, E string feel, pizz feel? Etc
    Thanks!
