  • How to tell a Raven and Crow apart by their call. This is a bird sound ID technique that I call, "Visual Clues". Sometimes birds have field marks that you can creatively attach their sound to.

Bird vocalizations can vary from individual to location. Birds may have regional “dialects”. 🥰

I love waking up to the sound of crows. They're not high- pitched, chirpy and bushy tailed in the morning. They sound like a good alarm clock. And they def "go off" several times in a relatively short and rhythmic way when they caw.

No snooze button for you. Haha. At this time of year it is the blue jays yelling for peanuts early in the morning. An alarm clock of all who can hear it.

@birding_by_ear yes snooze button. They caw every few minutes. Them other little birds go wild start chirping at 4am. Crows are smarter, wake up at 6. Then they caw at regular intervals unlike them high pitched, ugh nonstop in the morning.

in Australia, our ravens have a more mournful caw. Like a "Ba-ooowwwww" sound. I cant really describe it but I suggest people look into it bc its a lovely caw

    • @birding_by_ear

Yes, the like most corvids can create and mimic all sorts of sounds. The sound also depends on region. Birds can have different "accents" depending where they were raised.
