Rainbow, Munich, 1977. This is hands down one of the greatest concerts ever. Rainbow at this time could be considered a super Group. I mean, Dio is flat out one of the greatest male vocalists ever. Ritchie Blackmore is an insane guitarist, and Cozy Powell was one of the greatest drummers of all time.

I am planning on doing as much of the concert as I can but I agree. Dio is the goat as a vocalist and blackmore is incredible to watch and listen to. The drummer is stellar. Definitely a super group to me. Much love.

Cozy Powell in this era of the band put on a clinic for how to drum with dynamics. I have listened to the live album from this time “On Stage” a million times since it came out and it never ever grows old to me. Desert island album for me.

A cool and mellow Rainbow song. I always like Dio's vocals.
Ronnie James Dio explains in a 1975 radio special
"Catch the rainbow is lyrically medieval in that it's concerning a stable boy who makes it with a lady of the court. She sneaks off to sleep on his bed of straw every night and they think it's all going to work but as we rudely find out, it never does and they kind of go their own way, but it's a track that I think Ritchie and I are very proud of."

Story goes that Richie was locked in jail the night before and they had to sneak him in to the show. So it almost didn't happen but the world is blessed that it did.

Sarah that was a lovely reaction to my all time favourite song. You looked as mesmerised as I was at 15 years old in 1977 when I first heard this song from the 'On Stage" album and fell in love with Dio's amazing voice & the band Rainbow This song holds so many memories for me and I thank you for this wonderful reaction and good luck with your channel!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you... this is the music that made us... my first rock gig was Rainbow a few weeks after this performance, never to be forgotten.
Ronnie talked about what Catch the Rainbow is about:
"As for the text, Catch the Rainbow is from the Middle Ages, as it is about a young groom doing this to a lady of the court. She sneaks out every night to sleep with him on a bed of straw. They think it will all work, but as we know for sure, it never works, and they go their separate ways. It’s a track that I and I think Richie are very proud of."
Famously, Ritchie Blackmore was driven overnight after 3 days in jail in Vienna, Austria... he was wearing the same clothes. They finally hit the stage in Munich 3 hours late and played this amazing gig.

Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist of Rainbow (and Deep Purple) is an exceptional talent - one of the greatest guitar players of all time 🤘🤘The problem was that Blackmore is a very moody and temperamental personality... he doesn't care about money, he has to feel the music... and if he is upset or irritated for any reason, it affects his ability to perform. Thankfully, he was on fire 🔥🔥in this performance in 1977.
When Ritchie Blackmore was on, he was incredible... no one could touch him live. But if he got on stage w/ a chip on his shoulder... he becomes a disaster on stage - the perfect example of that was the 1993 Deep Purple live concert video "Come hell or high water"... he literally refused to go on stage for the opening song 'Highway star' and u had no guitars for half the song because he was upset at the position a cameraman was standing on stage... and when he started playing, he was shambles at times...

Since u cant see the show its the bass player singing second part ontop of dio, it used to be Jimmy Baines but he had left at this time. I had played drums for a few years at this time and i loved playing these songs on drums and this drummer was a favourite for a while.

Hi, I love Richie Blackmore, because he was the 1st rock guitarist I ever heard, and totally blew me away when I heard Deep Purple....Up until then it was The Beatles and mostly groups from Liverpool. Pop music, not rock music, so you can imagine discovering this music and with Ian Gillans vocals, wow ! ....So of course when Richie Blackmore's Rainbow came along, it was a no brainer to buy the debut album the moment I saw it. I have seen Rainbow live, twice, and luckily it was at the beginning, so it was with Ronnie James Dio. I feel blessed I got to see these concerts with him on vocals. They were incredible shows, and with a huge rainbow above the stage with moving lights. Very effective....I wonder if Richie got that from the Deep Purple Live at the California Jam 1974 ? which had a huge rainbow above the stage basically identical. Love this track and Dio is amazing. Such a sad loss.

Same 1977 Munich concert, the song "Mistreated" is another standout performance and is one of Ronnie's best. You are correct, Ronnie listened to opera, fan of Mario Lanza. The song "Stargazer" is the closest to Ronnie singing opera.

Sarah, Interesting fact for you. Ronnie James "Dio" Padavona (his birth name) claimed to have never received any vocal training. He instead attributed his singing ability to the use of breathing techniques he learned while playing trumpet.
Live performances I'd strongly recommend are:
    Scorpions/Micheal Schenker - Lovedrive LIVE, 2006 (ruclips.net/video/l2yh0t6RohI/видео.html)
Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo 1984/08/05 (ruclips.net/video/xk84dVq644k/видео.html)
    Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4 - 7/21/1970 - Tanglewood (Official) (ruclips.net/video/7uAUoz7jimg/видео.html)
Alter Bridge - Blackbird Live From Amsterdam (ruclips.net/video/JUh8NOTW1Ws/видео.html) (I know you did the studio version)
Alter Bridge - Broken Wings - Live In Amsterdam 2009 (ruclips.net/video/K2pTLfPuqS0/видео.html)
Frank Marino -- Something's Comin' Our Way - Live at the Agora Theatre (ruclips.net/video/4jUKJst-rUA/видео.html)
Triumph Fight The Good Fight US Festival LIVE 1983 (ruclips.net/video/q0Ei-tZTDr0/видео.html)

I think it's ridiculous here, it's like these companies do not want us to watch or enjoy the videos. If this is the case then why put them up on RUclips. either they want us to enjoy them or they don't. if they don't then they should not be up here on RUclips plus they should not be blocked either. Doesn't make sense. Anyway Sarah, hope you're having a wonderful and please keep up the great work that you're doing.

It is and I get mad. The blocked my original upload of this video so I had to do it this way. I get mad because they block some artists or songs, as well as this and yeah, why? You think they'd want reaction channels and videos in general to use the videos and songs to help spread it to people and reach people who haven't heard them before. But that isn't the case sadly. Thank you for the support. Hope you are well. Much love.

It's the copyright holders. Though if the the video/song is demonitized it shouldn't matter. Some band's copyright holders are much worse than others. The Eagles, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin Are the worst blockers.

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Год назад

@@SarahraeLivingLife It seems that in most other reaction videos they stop the song a few times and talk/react in a short break, i think it may make it less likely to be blocked since if you play the whole song in one go it is just like putting it up on youtube as is but with talking at the beginning and end and i dont think they want to have the whole song posted like that. You might try stopping a few times like that and see if it works better. BTW its great to see someone as young as yourself that likes this music so much, even i would just have been about 6 years old when this was filmed but i discovered Dio in the Holy diver days and has been a huge fan since.

@@Stefan- I am aware of what others do and stopping the song drives me nuts personally cause I feel they miss so much. Also it's the video that was the problem. That's going to happen no matter how many times you stop it. I've seen reactions where videos are blocked even though they stop every few seconds. But thank you for the advice. I am still doing it my way. I don't want to do what everyone else does. Much love.
