I have it and literally turning it on puts the thing at 99% capacity, and having Chrome open is sure to crash it. The problems only come in after the date where you can return it goes by, which is disgusting. The storage space is a joke, 32GB, and Windows leaves you with just 6-10GB with it installed, and bloatware keeps on coming back effectively rendering the laptop useless. I am planning to get an Ideapad 320 for just £50 more than the Stream costs, and it can play games like Fortnite at 30fps with the settings down. Hasta la vista, HP.

*DO NOT BUY A LAPTOP WITH ONLY 32GB STORAGE!* I have worked on multiple laptops like this and they run out of space from just downloading Windows Updates. There is no way to avoid this, even if you use a micro SD for extra storage. There is no way to swap out the hard drive and you are stuck with 32GB forever.

This is the laptop my school sent me. It barely runs. The screen is nearly bendable. I treat it kindly and had dead pixels within 3 months. It can barely run RUclips. But because they have it hard locked on Windows 7 it can run chrome. It lives for 3 days on normal usage (3-4 hours of school work). The Bluetooth doesn’t work at all. It’s not worth the cheap price.

We have an old MSI laptop in the ICT class that never gets used.
What kills it for me is that low memory. Only 4 GB is pitiful. That low eMMC storage doesn't help it much, either. Only 32 GB? Just my pictures folder would take up a good chunk of that.

My $300 handheld Windows 10 PC that fits in my pocket is better than this performance wise. It even gets me almost 20 hours of battery life (browsing) and came with double the storage that this has... Also has 4gb of RAM... And four processor cores... lol

I bought an HP Silver Ci3 Fusion and it's great. It's $300 with an i3 6100U and 8 GB of DDR4. It runs esports titles perfectly fine, it can even run Overwatch at medium settings at 60 FPS. 100% worth it. Things is only compromise is the screen. It's just eh.

The point isn't how new it is, it's gonna be more difficult to get proper retail warranty support on that (and manufacturer support is pretty trash in comparison, usually). Also, if the previous owner dropped it, your hard drive is fucked.

Lesson learned: Buy a used laptop if your on a tight budget.
You can get a significantly better computer used. This laptop will slow the F down after a month of use and updates. We have so many people bring in these because they are slow and we can't do anything. My dad was gifted one. It took 20mins to install chrome.
Now there's your problem. Don't customize it. Just use Windows Edge out the box and be happy. Also, Chrome is a known memory and CPU hog.
Or install a linux distro. I've had an asus e403sa with a pentium n4200 for a year and a half now, and it's still as fast as the day I bought it. Not that fast though.
Yes installing Linux would run fine on this. I still would prefer picking up a used gen 2-3 i3/i5 for the same price or less. If you were patient you could snag a 3rd Gen i5 in good condition with 6-8gb ram, replace the battery and upgrade the hard drive to a 128gb ssd for the same cost.
You've got a point, but as a student, I'm not (only) after best performance for the money. I actually need the 10-hours battery life that these low-powered braswell / apollo lake / gemini lake permit, and I prefer a semi (asus e403) or full-metal (acer swift 1, teclast f7) build if I'm going to take the laptop in and out of my backpack everyday. 4gb of RAM is annoying if you're using win10 and chrome, but it's plenty for linux and firefox. (edit: it's got an n3700, not an n4200, it's a lot slower, but it just goes to prove my point)
If it can't run a web browser than what good is it? People should spend the extra money or look for something used instead. This toy is just going to end up in the trash

i use this at my job for video conferences and data transfers and its GREAT. i wouldn't try to run any heavy programs off this thing because of the hardware limitations but it makes for a good business/travel laptop

PXL-Cube maybe when you’re not trying to get WiFi to work, or Bluetooth, or Ethernet, or a printer. Or figuring out how to use the freeware versions of more well-known apps. Linux is great but trying to get people to use it based off price is cringe to me because I have ALWAYS ended up those peoples tech support in my experience.
Linux has come a long way but it isn’t there yet, and will never be mainstream worthy.
Not even close. Linux UI is power hungry. Windows UI is optimized for the lowest common denominator running fine on 10-year-old hardware.
Linux is easy to install nowadays. And it doesnt differ a lot from Windows if you use a easy distro.
Of course something like Arch is hard..
I would still rather use Linux over Windows for other reasons. It's easier to update, less of a pain if you HAVE to reinstall, and (this last one is more subjective) doesn't have any unnecessary animations like Windows 10 or Mac OS.
We had these laptops in high school, except for they had 11.6 inch screens, I don’t recommend Hp streams at all. My mouse pad wore out the base a the bottom cracked, they scratch easily, and they aren’t always the fastest, to make things worst the school system here where I live has heavy restrictions on all school devices, (so they only thing we could do on them was browse the web and download files) which slows things down way worse. The only good thing I can say about the laptop is the battery life, which is actually really good, we used our laptops everyday, all day and the battery would never die til after I got home.

As an owner of the HP stream 14 I can confirm that it has awesome battery life compared to other laptops that I have used.... but that is the only thing going for it. The storage really holds this laptop back from being a decent device. I constantly have problems updating windows as I never have space. At 32gb of storage I would not recommend.

HP seriously needs to stop selling the 32GB model since the FORCED WIN10 UPDATES cannot complete (and keep popping up daily) as they require too much freespace (I have nothing installed) oh and the Win10 update refuses to recognize external storage.

The model is updated and you can now get it with 64gb at $199 at Staples. For what my wife would use it for - checking email, surfing the web, writing a few light documents, I would think this would be fine. And if not, I'll take it and turn it into a Linux machine. Can't be any worse than the old Gateway AIO I'm running linux on now! LOL

I bought the 11 inch version. I am typing this on it now. Its not a bad little laptop. great for tossing around or into a bag. it can play youtube or hulu/netflix smoothly and has great battery life. I am getting about 5-6 hours on 75% brightness running one click above battery saver.

My old laptop is a HP (I have a Dell now) and it’s the same thing, it’s a stream. It’s a AMAZING laptop but if u wanna do YT gaming with like a TON of games, example: you can have the sims and a few expansion packs, but u cant fit a ton. This laptop has a lot of storage, but I got all the sims 3 expansion packs on it, and it loads slow now, and also is glitchy. That’s why I got a Dell now. But it’s totally worth it for videos, a small time gaming, and work like notes or documents.

32 GB of internal memory is not enough especially when it's mounted on the board. I am suffering with windows updates. Everytime I want to get the latest version of windows I have to format my pc.
I just can't understand why Microsoft allows laptops with only 32GB storage. The size of the Windows OS increases with time, to the point where it becomes impossible to download Windows Updates because there is no room left to store the update file.

I got an earlier incarnation of one of these to take in to hospital with me. Didn't realise it only had ONE wifi antenna which made for a really weak wifi experience. But it was usable, until Windows pushed out a mandatory update. Then it became more sluggish than frozen molasses at the north pole.
It now sits on my shelving, forgotten, gathering dust. Never to be used again.
For that money, better get a used Thinkpad or some other business laptop.
For those looking for budget laptops. Go checkout the chinese laptops like the Ezbook 3 pro.220usd gets u 6gb ram 64gb ips 1080p screen. Metal body. And m.2 slot.bought few works real well
I had two hp stream 11's. One I got when they first came out in late 2014. One I got right after new years in 2016. They run linux fine. Although mouse and wifi quirks until mid-2015. I really loved the silent nature of them. And the HDMI out is so useful. Especially on the 11" version. I dropped the 2016 one in the first six months and it stopped working 18 months after purchase. My mom still uses the 2014 one for youtube, facebook, and light gaming. The ac wireless makes it really useful as a conference laptop, plus long battery life. I've since replaced them with quad core 8GB ram machines with AMD APUs for < $400 each, with relatively horrible battery life and noisy fans. But they were definitely nice off the shelf laptops at the time. One of the two usb ports is usb3, which is useful for faster storage options and gigabit ethernet.

I have a white HP stream 14 with 4 gb ram, I mounted a 128gb usb3 sandisk fit into one of the usb 3 ports, if i ever need it i can just move the usb drive. I though the usb would likely be faster and cheaper than a sd card as I picked up the 128gb for $25.. In regards to web surfing its on par with my iphone 7 most the time. There are times I want a little more power and in that case I just use the Parsec Gaming app and remote to my home pc with the PoWa. I can play games fine through it too using the app which is surprising. My two favorite parts are the crisp color and look of the screen and the 10 plus hour battery, I charge and sometimes go 2-3 days between plugging it in. ON Wifi I usually get about 115 mbps download speeds, which are plenty for anything.

I have this laptop and it plays fortnite surprisingly well. I can get 12-29 FPS which is still playable if you know how to edit the games user settings file, change the resolution, quality, etc and you can get really playable frames. The only problem is the storage and lag spikes, the storage is not enough to play it on its own so I got a 130 go flash drive, which will last me a long time. On battle royale frame spikes are going to happen but on creative mode you will see little to no frame spikes because the creative worlds are basically servers which you are only in so it gives you a big FPS boost. I’m proud of the sweat and tears I put into making this laptop play fortnite better than the switch.
Hey guys it's Mohammad, and I have a $150 PC, and here are five reasons why you SHOULDN'T buy one:
1. The price: Buying a $188 dollar PC may sound like a great steal for you... until you realize that its a outdated piece of s**t that can't run even the simplest PC games without lagging or crashing, and that building your own PC is literally a million times better for you than buying a ripoff $188 dollar paperweight.
2. The software: I'll be quick here. The $188 dollar PC doesn't do much, but it gets the Job done. Oh wait, I can't get any job done. Chrome? Lags like s**t. Gaming? Unless you wanna play 16bit games for the rest of your life, think again! Competitive gaming? Forget the competition, because you can't even compete with that piece of crap! Can't run PubG, can't run fortnite, can't run league of legends, can't run Dota 2, can't run cs:go, can't run any VR games, the list goes on! So if you like laggy games and crappy graphics, then you're a stupid idiot who knows nothing about PC gaming! Go back to consoles idiot!
3. The hardware: 4GB ram, 512 mb of integrated graphics, intel 2 core processor, and no SSD! Sure, that may sound pretty bad, and you're right! It's actually terrible! For $188 dollars your better off buying a cheap smartphone with better specs than that! The hardware is extraordinarily outdated, and there aren't even any USB 2.0 ports in it! What a f**king waste of time! Not only that, but your Motherboard is so bad you can't even upgrade your PC even if you wanted to! So you're literally doomed to use a piece of s**t for the rest of your life! And not only that, but the case for the computer literally sucks and is made out of cheap and shoddy material, and looks ugly as F**K!
4. The performance: IT DOESN'T EXIST. For $188 dollars you can't even run a f**king calculator app without the program lagging after using any number bigger than a short. It gets HORRIBLE frames on almost ANY software, even the desktop lags like S**T! As for framerates and cpu usage, literally any app you install will eat up half your RAM and 80% of your processing power, because there is so little to begin with! So you're literally stuck with a piece of crap that can't be overclocked, has horrible startup times, and lags and crashes at even basic multimedia software and rendering programs!
5. It's NOT practical: Unless you're completely insane or literally are an old fart that doesn't know how to press the power button, there is literally no practical reason to buy an OUTDATED, DYSFUNCTIONAL OBSOLETE PIECE OF S**T THAT YOU LITERALLY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ON. IT CAN'T RUN THE MOST DESIRED PROGRAMS IN ANY INDUSTRY SETTING (Photoshop, Sony Vegas, After Effects, Code Compilers, Game Engines, ect), IT CAN'T BE USED FOR GAMING, IT CAN'T BE USED FOR BITCOIN MINING, IT CAN'T BE USED FOR STREAMING, IT CAN'T BE USED FOR WATCHING 4K MOVIES OR VIDEOS, IT CAN'T BE USED FOR LITERALLY ANYTHING BUT STARTING FLAME WARS ONLINE OR MAKING S**TTY BLOG POSTS ON YOUR STUPID SOCIAL MEDIA SITE, BOTH OF WHICH LITERALLY NOBODY CARES ABOUT. 1. It’s the only thing I can afford
Big improvement from the days of the netbooks. I purchased the acer one a few years back for about $185 Canadian and that thing was really never usable with 1 GB of RAM. This is a real laptop compared to that junk.
Seems like it might be a solid choice for school work, videos, flash games etc and if it supports a decent WiFi standard maybe even game streaming. I might pick one of these up once their next gen rolls around, should be a nice little machine!

Splashh ROBLOX is unoptimised though... Hell, I tried getting it to run on my 970/FX-8350 machine for a younger family member and it still had frame drops, while ARK runs maxed with a (somewhat) stable 60 FPS.

smashhawk you don't understand. This laptop is the biggest POS I ever owned. It can BARELY run youtube and another tab at the same time. Sometimes youtube is choppy. It can't do even the bare minimum. And it doesn't have enough internal memory to update so you get the notification all the time but can't update. Save yourself the headache.

I got one of these, but has the 3350 celeron, not the 3360....little slower cpu, but 64gb of storage and same RAM(4gigs). I installed pep9 on it straight away without even booting into Windows. Pep9 installed without even a need to go into legacy mode. EUFI seemed to like Pep9 just fine and all the hardware was opensource friendly because I checked the Ubuntu site to make sure it was compatible. So, smooth install.
I can surf, email, chat, remote, code, vpn works without a hitch...add in the nice battery life and this is super portable while doing all I want it to do. If you want to game, or edit videos, sure I agree....this isn't for you. Also, if you can't afford to have a "work" machine and also a "play" machine it's best to shoot a little higher depending on your wants.
This guy is SPOT ON....it's not for everyone, but it will be fine for the needs he listed. Just stay away from Chrome and Edge;>

I have iBall i360 which cost me around 13k (Indian rupees). it is super cheap and it really works well. I use it mainly for editing docs and web browsing. I do recommend u check out iBall, Austin. Specially the speakers they make are quite good.

I have this laptop! You can play lots of older games on it and some new-ish ones like Mass Effect, Unreal Tournament 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Black Mesa etc. There is some lag in some games and I’ll change it to a 4:3 low resolution, disable shadows and it helps. I think it’s pretty decent for older games. The memory is so low though and I’m constantly having to adjust for that. The screen is visually disappointing but if you use it in the dark, it looks better lol

One with a decent graphics card and CPU. I don't recommend a laptop, though, because rendering takes a toll on a laptop.
Lenovo or Asus. Intel core i5 or i7. With 8gb of ram minimum and if you can get one with solid state drive regardless if is 64gb, 128 or 256gb your laptop will run fast and smooth, no more waiting time on loading and booting your pc! But yeah prepare to spend anything from 600-1000 dlls
If you really want to edit on a laptop, buy a MacBook, I myself have never liked them, but I do like Final Cut Pro a lot, and it’s heavily optimized for Mac os
I WILL say this, this pc is not friendly for the average customer at first because you want to ininstall everything not needed and do windows updates and there is only about 5 gb space left after that, it is very important not to use that space or your updates will stop. Install all apps onto a sd card or usb fit drive.

I used this and like a month later, the pixels at the bottom died. Idk why, I only lightly used it for gaming and didn’t touch it for like 4 weeks before I went back to play to reveal it’s pixels were dying. I’m assuming it was because air got in between the screen and the lights but I can’t be for sure because my dad just sent it back. Not to mention we needed an extra storage extension to run a *single game* because the laptops main necessities were taking all the space, after that, it was a pretty ok lap top (until the pixels we dying to the point of no use) but lag was such an annoying issue, my game would crash because the lag would build up in busy cities on my mmo. It wasn’t a fun experience, money could be out to better use.
Austin is great, but I feel if he gave the review more time, he’d see it start to break down after a month or two.

I have the same laptop since 2019 ( my grade 9 days). I can say for its price it is really practical to have it. I only use it for studying, ppt's, sending emails, browsing. Guess that this is good for students using it for academic purposes only?
As for its storage, I don't have problem with it, the laptop can hold all my documents even without SD card, flash/hard drive. (Still have 18Gb of storage)
My only prob with it is the performanace. Sometimes it lags, its slow and when I open multiple tabs it keeps on refreshing it self. (Looks like it gotten a virus but it doesn't.)

I feel like there is a gulf in laptops for people with document - heavy work. 20 tabs of pdfs in Chrome, several PowerPoints, 2 word documents, and an excel sheet open. Presenters underestimate or forget what's between typing up a small doc, and video editing or CAD work. I think a 16gb laptop with 4 cores or a hyperthreaded dual core and a fast hard drive or ssd would be perfect for a lot of people, but alas, you need to either go overkill with features you don't want or need just for looking at pages of text, or be left with a POS that can barely chug through it.
