That's not true. Juventus just brought a world class young goalkeeper named Buffon for a record signing and then sold Van Der Saar for 10.3M euros to Fulham.
10.3M was a huge fee for a goalkeeper back then.
To put it into prospective, United had spent 11.7M the previous summer for a Euro and Worlc Cup winning goalkeeper in Barthez.
Fulham just made a clever quick move there.

It's amazing that Alfie's most expensive pick was Andy Robertson for £8m through out the 20 years of transfers. I'd figure he would've certainly exceed £10m after the 2017 season but somehow he hasn't! A reminder that a bargain is still possible even in today's market of mediocre players going for £50+ million. (This video is a great inspiration for all Football Manager lovers out there ❤).

Seamus Coleman is average to mediocre though, and has zero resale value now.
To pick just one example - those 3 Leicester signings in the video delivered a title and gathered in many many multiple times their cost when sold on. Coleman cost 60K but delivered nothing and recouped nothing.
Depends what you value though and what you call success. Coleman was very cheap, but played like it and delivered value on a par with his cost. Putting wages aside, Coleman cost Everton 60K, Kante cost Leicester negative 25 million. You still think Coleman is “pound-for-pound” the best?

Here it is (with the years of each player's international career listed in parentheses):
    🇩🇪 Oliver Kahn (1995 - 2006)
    🇩🇪 Manfred Kaltz (1975 - 1983), 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Bob Crompton (1902 - 1914), 🇧🇷 Thiago Silva (2008 - ), 🇩🇪 Andreas Brehme (1984 - 1994)
    🇺🇾 José Leandro Andrade (1923 - 1930), 🇮🇹 Ugo Locatelli (1936 - 1940)

    🇧🇷 Pelé (1957 - 1971), 🇧🇷 Neco (1917 - 1922), 🇭🇺 Zoltán Czibor (May 1949 - 1956)
    Manager: 🇨🇿 Karel Petrů (1931 - 1935)
If you choose to ignore the position of manager, Ugo Locatelli can be replaced in midfield by 🇦🇷 Antonio Sastre (1933 - 1941).

2012-13 was absurd between all those honorable mentions to the point one of the players you missed Aritz Aduriz, had a footballing inflation cost and international footballing career that looks more like what if you merged Jens Lehmann and Jamie Vardy into one (20 Caps for Spain all after age 31 for the low cost of 2.5 million euros with 4 million maximum with add-ons).
Edit: In addition, the late blooming Aduriz has more La Liga goals than Alan Shearer has Premier League goals.

Their fees were too high for the list, but as a Real Madrid Fan, the fact we got Modric for 35 Mio €, Kroos for 25 Mio € and Casemiro for under 10 Mio € who would win a staggering 4 (Kroos, with Real) or 5 Championsleagues between them still blows my mind.
And Fede Valverde probably also doesn't count as an academy player, but 5 Mio for what is now one of the best and most versataile cms on the planet, our future captain and could easily be sold for a fee over 100 Mio is a pretty good deal.

It’s great to see Joe Hart- as born and breed Salopian and a fan of Shrewsbury. I can’t believe he want for that little! £100k! Hart was one of the best keepers England has made since Banks. I think people massively underrate him and see him as like a Rob Green due to his performances in international games. He went to Italy and was loved there- which proved he was still seen as a great player internationally and maybe he should have stayed there but it’s great seeing him thrive at Celtic. (FYI- Hint: I know it’s a big d eats about how to say it but locals say Sh*rews*bury not Shrowsbury! It’s southerners who are wealthy who say ‘Shrow’. Shrew like ‘Taming of the Shrew’- it’s not ‘Taming of the Shrow’- just a hint for future videos Alfie. Don’t want you to be hounded out by Shrewsbury ultras like the BBC was when it was the FA Cup game against Liverpool).
