Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Lol..."..fish of the day..."
Me: fish of a lifetime...hell any fish he's caught on this channel for that matter. I get super stoked for a little 8 inch...then watch him pull out fish about the size of my leg....absolutely incredible. Thanks for making these videos...one can only dream :)
Cheers mate I really appreciate that
Amazing fish. What took a chunk out of the first one’s tail?
There tails wear down when there spawning because there swimming to dig out there reds for there eggs
As Robert says
Mean. Bring back the mo.
Aint nobody talking about how Gareth hasn't put his drone into any of those trees in the intro hahaha, wicked video dude. Hella epic.
Hahah yeah it was close bro. 🤙
Outstanding mate. We are very spoilt in this little corner of the world
watching this from the North East of the United States has me A WHOLE lot more than jealous. I NEED to make a trip
Come on over
i have a friend who fished for trout all over the world. He said the best trout fishing he ever experienced was in the rivers south of Lake Ontario, in western N.Y. He had many pictures to prove his claim! Fish On! Bro!
That really is insane fishing, it is incredible that they are a self sustaining wild population of giant rainbows 🤩
Cheers mate
Looks like canal origin rainbows being that size. Salmon farm in the canal !
What a vid. From tune selection to drone footage to POV footage.... nailed it bro. Just epic. Not to mention the beauty that is New Zealand. Bloody awesome.
Thanks heaps mate 🤙
@@TroutHuntingNZ watching it again. That says it all. 🤙🏻♠️🇳🇿
Great video man, amazing fish too! I heard a rumor about RUclips trying to censor fishing an hunting channels. That could be your issue with RUclips ☹ all the best in the coming season man!
That has come and gone, they were trying to demonitize videos because people were saying it’s cruel. But they have taken care of that now. But I’m sure something else will come up,
Thanks heaps mate yeah I have herd that too. Let’s hope not
yes heard the same especially around removing fish from the water for a photo
@@TroutHuntingNZ get a patron
@@zachmarrow I actually have one built but I have just never launched it
Hi Gareth, great fishing and photography, I love those shots from the drones, it’s like watching you from a helicopter. Cheers mate. Harera
That’s insane man! What a dream!!!! You need to get some underwater shots of the releases. That would be sick!
Yeah should have! Cheers bud
@@TroutHuntingNZ Yeah, but underwater shots of Gareth falling in would be better! :-)
Indicator nymphing isn't fly fishing. Why not just use a spinning rod and a bobber?
Because that would be stupid. This all comes down to your definition of fly fishing. Indicator nymphing fits that definition for me. I’m happy to explore the definition with you if you would like.
Awesome video!!! Absolutely amazing fish!!! Looks like a beautiful river and it's nice to see people sharing the water respectfully.
Cheers buddy yes lots of people enjoying the river and even helping one and other
Talk about eating trout outdoors with fried potatoes porkin beans, home made biscuits cooked on a open fire. Looks like a great time.
Thanks
Those fish are massive beauties and very healthy that water must be very clean and very cold has abundance of things to snack on
Yeah that it
Really mean video Gareth! Can’t wait till the next one. :)
Thanks Robert
Crazy: what are they eating to get that big, from Ireland
Cheers mate. Not %100 sure it must be good stuff tho
WTF, I've got to go to polaski NY for steal head for trout like that.
Cheers 🤙
Triploids are organisms which have three sets of chromosomes, making them impossible to undergo meiosis therefore they are sterile. Here in BC Canada, triploid trout are often stocked into lakes to ensure that the stock cannot regenerate. Growth performance of triploid trout is also better than diploid trout, making these stocked lake fisheries better since anglers obviously like catching bigger fish. Good video. :)
Hey Fishing with Rod thanks heaps for that info. Love your work🤙
Your videos are cool
Thanks mate
Those rainbows remind me of the nooks here in the PNW.
Cheers mate
Many Thanks to you from Bend Oregon. I LOVE the fish and your obvious love of them too. I also NEVER fish and tell so, am with you Brother on that. Keep the videos coming, they're Great!! Edmund W : Bend
Thanks heaps mate
this channel has been such an inspiration for me to go out and catch fish in beautiful spots
Cheers mate
Love your videos. Only two places on earth I want more than anything to visit. New Zealand and Jurassic Lake in Argentina.
That`s just insane! Wow!!!!!! Some people always try to spoil it! GET A LIFE! Brilliant advert for NZ and fishing in general.
Trioloid or Donaldson rainbow N.W. coast Oregon Washington state. Have 3 chromosome cant reproduce grow amazingly fast
Dang nice fishing. Incredible actually!
Cheers mate
Amazing fish, do you guide??
Cheers mate yeah I guide
Man. For the price of a trip down there, these fish seem lethargic? If I am going to fork out that kind of cash, I want 10lb+ Rainbows snapping 0x fluorocarbon like dental floss! You want monster Rainbows that actually put up a fight - Kvichak, AK!
Gareth, great video! What are the summer plans with Alex? Love the backcountry trips you guys do.
Are they Good eating Fish?
Not sure
Monster fish, stunning location and great filming. Thanks heaps Gareth and keep the videos coming.
Thanks mate I really appreciate that 🤙
In SI I did `t saw many insects, except the bloody sandfly and that is why I was always wondering how fish grow to that big down there.
Great video--such massive fish. You're right about the meaning of triploid, it's a genetic/chromosome configuration that effectively neuters the fish making it impossible for them to spawn. That does prevent escaped farm fish from inter-breeding with wild, but it doesn't prevent them from out-competing wild fish for food and habitat. Like you say, these tanks have just learned to take advantage of the special water flow that consistently brings them food, while no doubt chomping down tons of smaller fish. (ps might want to check your color balance on your office camera, it's a bit warm and makes you seem to have jaundice or spray tan ;-). It might be having trouble coping with a mix of fluorescent and bulb light or reflection from your desk surface.)
Can confirm the bloke goes through spray tan by the dozen 😂
Cheers mate
Super NZ trout vids. Enjoying them from NY, USA. Wondering if you could share clips of you fly rigs you use. Thanks Ed
Cheers mate I’ll try get some more rigs in there for you.
Dude, those are crazy fish!! Great video Gareth...well shot and edited.
Wicked man! Those fish look mean.
Cheers mate
You bless bunch of guys!
Cheers
Awesome footage Gareth, interesting information, very well done 👏
lets hope fg up their game on managing this fishery whilst its on a high country endorsement catch and release should be compulsorily as these are the gene Poole of the system and when the border reopens it will be ventura highway kiwi anglers should be the priority not big spending tourist
Good call, Ken. Everyone know the river now (and not because of GB) so it probably needs ballot management and some unique rules like you suggest.
Have you ever tried swinging for these things?
Gareth, you don’t have to give away the exact fly pattern, but can you say something about the fly in broader terms?
Hey man I use clear drift eggs. Glow dead egg colour or orange haze. And catagory 3 nymphs. I got a few of these fish on just a standard pheasant tail pattern
Only in New Zealand, epic trip you had, tight lines!
The Piscatorian
Cheers mate
Trout fishing on a neighboring planet.
Are these fish diploid?
Yes
seals must be gettin at them, meessin their tails up
No seals here
@@TroutHuntingNZ do you know how come some of the fish had partly missing tails? or just age?
Pretty high Female to male Bows.
Incredible fish!! What are you catching them on??
Eggs flies and small nymphs
I dreamed of those giant rainbows when I was a young boy reading and seeing pictures in Field & Stream magazine! Then my dream came true when I flew there on military leave from the war in Iraq to catch those monsters with a guide! Epic insane fishing in that beautiful country!!! Love all your vids
Cheers mate
Seems to be a popular place with lots of people fishing, and I can see why! Just curious, what size rod and tippet?
Cheers mate yep lots of anglers 6wt rod and 6lb line
Fishing Chernobyl again! Lol
Hahah cheers mate
Ok so it is true they were trying stop fishing and hunting vids.
I did hear a rumor but thought this cant be real.
Yeah who really knows but I have personally experienced a real drop off
Amazing.. but seiing the big size of these fish they seems to fight to little... maybe they are tired for recent spawning?
A little tired from spawning yes. This is the tail end of there spawning period. Couple good fights tho
What absolute incredible fish!! Was a joy to watch!! Curious what size flies ya'll using? Is it a freestone river or tailwater? Hear you say they dont like the natural? Nice job so insane!!
Hi mate size 12-16 nymphs and eggs I call a natural any nymph that is based on a real bug .
Absolute banger as usual! So jealous of those rainbows although i live right on the Great Lakes in Michigan
Cheers dude
Lake Michigan is maybe the best GL steelhead. East or West
@@b.spackagingsolutionssarl2675 Shhhhhh those west coast guys refuse to accept that!
I can’t comprehend the size of trout you are catching. Beautiful fish.
Cheers mate
sick clips! you ever think about making a video at the coast? does fly fishing even work on the ocean 😱
Yeah I got some stuff like that coming up
can we eat that?
If ya want I suppose you could
your the best
Thanks mate
OMG! I'm from AK and those are some monster fish!
Is that Arkansas? Cheers mate
Insane fishing dude! Have you gotten a Dji fpv? Sweet video.
Hahah yes I did get that. It’s scary to fly. Cheers mate
Awesome video brother them are some straight up highs🤙🏻🤙🏻 cheers
Cheers mate
Man they are the biggest wild bows i have ever seen, great job on the releases and protecting those amazing fish..thank you for the video
Thanks Kenny 🤙
You should come to Reno Nevada and fish pyramid lake
On the list, Tobey, once we can fly again. Similar sized fish!
Pyramid lake is easy fishing
A river with fish like these, can’t compare
Big ass trout on 6 wt would be fun but it more like an 8 wt trout!
Na it’s 6wt even that is heaps
Damn nice fish…great couple of videos
Cheers mate
I knew you landed that fish!!! Well worth the bath💪💪💪💪Super high quality content.
Cheers mate
@@TroutHuntingNZ 29 hour flight from Pittsburgh, Pa keeps looking better and better with every video.
Lord those things a massive, they look around 30lbs…. I’m guessing they are ocean or big lake run. Even by ocean run standards those things are big, wow.
Thats an awesome catch
Thanks mate
Tekapo river is it
Awesome fish. we fished the pool above you guys opening weekend. Seen your drone buzzing around. Special spot 4sure
Man those are awesome fish so big and beautiful
Thanks nick
That was a massive trout!! Great catch brother!
Cheers
That second hen was beautiful mate
Yeah real nice
Oh man!!. Lots of other anglers in the background. Maybe I better try and get there (that fishery) before everybody else fishes it out. Great fish, great video. Great dunking scene, ha ha. Cheers mate.
What a great river it is the fishing has never been so good
Thanks mate
Great video again sir triploid fish are hatchery fish I believe the eggs get hit UV light so the fish dodoesn't have a sex so they grow quickly keep videos coming

Cheers mate
Ohau River 😎
Nice looking fish well done 👏

Nice work bro, loved it.
Hey cheers bud 🤙

Hahahah yeah mate. New Record
That first fish was a beast ...
Cheers
Just simply outstanding fly fishing and great production too. Reckon they are the best wild trout I’ve seen. Thanks for filming and sharing!! I was stoked to get a few pounders on the 3wt….and I won’t broadcast that location! Keep that one close to your chest mate!!
Epic! What river is this?
A really good one
🐟🎣👏👏👍🙆💯✌
Unbelievable size to those trout. What a day, even with the bath.
Holy smokes! Those trout are mammoth size!
Beautiful
Thanks
Beautiful
Thanks
Very nice men 👍
Cheers
Are you sure there is no Nuclear Plant nearby spilling some residues to the river?? Great filming, footage & music, as always!! BR
Yes - a salmon farm !
What blows my mind is that these rainbows are in the size range of 1 or maybe 2-salt sea-run west coast steelhead. So basically they are able to get an abundant and steady stream of nutrition equivalent to the open ocean... while staying in the river. How can this system exist?! Especially with angling pressure!
There is a salmon farm in the canal.
so these trout are wild? so cool.
Another outstanding video. Love what you do
So good Gareth.
