Hello, I am a huge fan from US and I have been spinning fishing for my whole life, but just this past month I have started fly fishing, and your channel was a great motivation. Thank you for uploading!
Hey so I know you may see a lot of weird comments here and whatnot. But I’m willing to pay some serious $ to get in on that action. I got a passport. How can I message you
Does like nobody in New Zealand keep trout to eat? Any trout over 3lbs in the states is considered a giant and any trout over 10 is a trophy. I highly highly highly recommend keeping one for a catch and cook. If you can fillet the fish keep the skin on. Season it with salt and lemon pepper and garlic, fresh or powder works. Sear the skin till it’s golden and crispy. Then sear the flesh side till it’s nice and brown. Serve it with Brussel sprouts and top it off with a Lemon butter sauce and dill! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Fish this size likely don’t have the best meat. Ideal eating size for trout is between 2.5 to 4 pounds imo. It seems to be a difficulty to catch small fish over there
We are so lucky here in nz to have these wonderful monsters living in our water ways...shame the greenies want them gone hopefully the greenies are gone this election
The greens and forest and bird want all introduced species gone that is there end goal they have named trout as enemy number 5 a head of deer there were heaps of articles written about it last year including the poisoning of some lakes which would not only kill the invasive weeds but also the fish stocks and locking fish and game out of re stocking..cheaper and easier options have been tabled like the whitebaiting bans seeing as they see native fish being more important hence the legislation the greens are bringing in on farmers to stop farm run off..so a paddock a km away from any water way can not be used for wintering stock with restrictions on pugging..stand off pads and and crop planting
I wondered why the fins and tails, were all damaged, and are so big. Read the other comments, is that correct, Stock fish fed on pellets ??. Still using bite indicator, start fly fishing. Please use a Bouyance aid, on the water. Enjoyed the vidio stay safe
Everything I know about NZ fishing comes from this channel but some of these fish just don't seem natural. What kind of food source in a free flowing river can make them that fat? Big shouldered steelhead right out of the Pacific are never that fat...Inquiring minds and all. Love virtually all of your work.
We generally have the same 'issue' with the saltwater species too. Its pretty good living down here, but hey the grass is always greener on the other side right? I personally just wish we had more variety of species like Canada does! www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2019/01/giant-kingfish-catch-amazes-kiwi-anglers.html
You're quite right, they are spawning fish, and if anglers are as passionate about the fish as some say they are, they should be left alone to do their thing. I have been a CSI guide for over 20 years, and don't know of any others that actively target spawning fish, but F&G regulations do allow this....... this is just me personal opinion.
The water is so clean and those fish are beautiful. Its good to know there are places like this that exist on earth. I have been fishing 30 years and have never seen so many big trout.
David Schmidt, I don’t know the exact name, It’s just what I’m told from other people. Plus, one look at those trout and you can immediately tell that they are not supposed to be that big. The only way trout grow to that size is with human intervention,
@@trippycheesey7681 I agree this video seems like some version of fishing heaven. I'm like where is everybody? In fishing heaven, no one would ever be in your spot. Cheers friend. :)

Thank you for making this video brought back happy memories of fishing the Waipakihi river many years ago with an amazing man . If you look in the Tongario National Trout Centre look at some of the exhibits and you will see some by a man called John Milner. That was the man who introduced me to some amazing fishing in New Zealand..... Unfortunatly he is no longer with us gone to the great fishing place in the sky. Stay Safe . Bill M8-) Scotland
We could never have anything like this in the US, people here do not respect nature, and would harvest all of them in under a year. One of the reasons I am a 100% CnR angler.
I completely disagree with you, but I have lived my entire life in Oregon 🇺🇸 We have a great fishery. Proud Sportsman despise any poachers and will help law enforcement capture and prosecute them. I doubt we have a river with 4 mega rainbows in one run 🤣
Trout Hunting NZ nope, Gerard rainbows in BC reach 30lb regularly. Not to mention steelhead 20+lbs common on some rivers. And those are REAL wild and native fish, not living under a salmon farm ;)
I have been a really good spin fisherman for trout but I’ve wanted to get into to fly fishing. I’ve tried it before and have caught some fish I just always have a hard time selecting flies. Do you have any tips for that or any go to flies you can always catch fish on no matter the time of year? Big fan from the US keep up the great uploads!
Fish of a lifetime every cast
Not really, not when they are big hatchery fish
Tripliods just like that stocked throughout my state. Not many but they're there, and they aren't smart fish.

I just can't get over the size of these fish.
Crazy About Fly Fishing same, it’s crazy
Why? They are pellet heads. Nothing impressive about them. Be like hunting a fattened beef cow.
These fish are dumb. They are just big fish food fead hatchery bows. Nothing really impressive about a farm fish
@@mattp4768 there are no trout Farms in New Zealand
"it only seemed to be 7 or 8 pounds"
If I see a 7 or 8 pound fish, I have a heart attack, get excited and mess up my cast 😂
same here:D
Seven or eight pounds only a small fish. Where i live one to two kilos is big.

How do those trout get so big ? What are they eating ?
Just perfect growing conditions year round and plenty of food

The river has salmon farms and the excess food falls through the cages and the rainbows eat it
Steelies don’t get that fat. They are all muscle baby. I’ve caught a couple steelhead that weighed more than these fish 100%

WTF? Why deez fishes soooo fat? It's like some old cat/fish lady is overfeeding them.
Wow man Unbelievable video !! you deserve more subscribers.
Those are so big for having been in a river system. That’s nuts. How long does it take for them to get this big?
Post spawners wont stay their long will be from the lake and canal system downstream
There are salmon farms on the river, these trout eat the leftover salmon food that has fallen though the cages, hence them being so unnaturally big

Dude! That was just stupid Big! Are you frickin kidding me? Tell Know one of this spot! ! !
Fishing in New Zealand is actually cheating to the rest of the world.
Why?
The trout are too easy. Growing fat, dumb, and powerful on the food humans provide them.
At least that’s my opinion, it sure seems that way
