"What" is still in my top 5 favorite title tracks. It's heavy for a Korean release and I love the syncopation in the second half of the chorus. Story-wise this is the first time they wear non-uniform outfits, which I believe is because they lost Yoohyeon (or at least her spirit) and are kind of broken. You can also see them search for her alone, not as a group. For me this is a song about the loss of a loved one and what that does to a group or family. I might be reaching, but this is the meaning for me.
What is/was an underrated song in the fandom. Lots of people didn't like it, but for me it's my second favorite title in the Nightmare series, behind Piri. Next up is Piri, which was the first Dreamcatcher song I ever heard, though I didn't know it at the time.
Chase Me and Good Night take place in the hotel and at the end of Good Night they escape through the forest which seems to be an alternate dimension they accessed through the mirror. Fly High is the origin story prequel to Chase Me and takes place in a boarding school that eventually was repurposed into the hotel you see in Chase Me. You & I takes place after their escape from the hotel and we find them living out in the world and running a photo studio. Jiu and the other members are desperately trying to free Yoohyeon from the curse, but they fail. The Spider Queen appears and throws them into the dream world of What, where each girl is alone and trapped in their own nightmare. Jiu is trying to find Yoohyeon and can see her on the rooftop, but can't get to her. Yoohyeon's costume in What is meant to show that the spider is controlling her. The black stockings have a pattern of spiders on them, but her top is white which illustrates the split between her good self and her dark evil self. The MV ends with the members all alone and lost in dreams. Piri takes up the story from there and concludes in their Japanese release, Breaking Out.
Seconding this, it is all correct. You & I is the transition from the real world to the Nightmare world with What, Piri, & Breaking Out all taking place in the Nightmare as the girls try to find each other and escape the curse.
