Love to hear your thoughts on another mini driver arriving on the scene, will you try one?
I'd love to see a comparison video between the new TaylorMade burner copper mini and this Callaway?
Keep up the great work, cheers!
@@gregbarthjr9621 yes me too!
Got the TaylorMade mini a month ago, definitely easier hit for me then standard driver, more consistent and distance difference is marginal
I bought the BRNR last year and gamed it for almost 70 rounds. So a decent sample size. I will say its a great club, very forgiving off the tee and a better choice than driver for most amateurs. However, this year I shortened my Driver to 44.5" length and it does everything the mini driver does with 30 yards more distance. Shortening the driver shaft to a 2 wood or even 3 wood length might actually be an equally good play.
I also chopped my driver down to 44.5 (I also have a 43.75 shaft) but the 44.5 just seems to be the sweet spot between swing speed and club face control / accuracy. I re-weight all my heads which is very easy to do with the pxg weight kit. However, I love lending my mini driver to newer golfing friends who struggle with the big stick and they just love hitting more fairways.
Golf company " here's a club alot of average golfers should be using, so we are making 10 of them "
Exactly! Sadly, I suspect that it's about money and they don't want too much competition for their full-size drivers.
It's the Rolex strategy so prices can be kept high.
I played a 2 wood for many years because I could control it!
A good drive was around 288. Always in play or close to the fairway.
Later switched to a big 460 mailbox on a stick and hated it. Way too much head weight and slower swing speed. I don’t know.
Recently picked up the Taylormade mini driver, 11 5 degree model! Bought it on a drunken whim, lol, and actually had it in my bag for 2 rounds before i had the confidence to use it!! Boy, don't know what the heck i was worried about, as it's OUTSTANDING!!!
I'm not a massive hitter by any means, but the TM mini driver is staying in my bag..!
A good drunken choice! 😂
As one that always struggled with consistency with my driver, the BRNR mini driver I got a couple of weeks ago has been a godsend. While a bit shorter than my best drives, I hit the sweet spot of the 13.5 BRNR much more consistently so average yardage off the tee is about the same and I'm constantly straight down the middle of the fairway rather than having to shag driver misses out of the woods or bouncing off trees. It's not bad off the deck either, so for all practical purposes it's replaced my driver and 3 wood.
In the last few days I've actually taken an intermediate, albeit budget-friendly, step between driver and mini-driver: 12 degree 460cc head (Turner H7 from Diamond Tour Golf) cut down to 43.5".
The initial range session with it was very promising, as it almost felt like I had no choice but to hit it straight. I'll take it to the range again tomorrow morning and play with it on Saturday in order to have a better sample size to inform what kind of weight adjustments I may want to make to it. The head already plays a few grams heavier than most modern drivers, so I may end up leaving it as it is.
If this ends up being my full-time driver, it will only leave me further convinced that more people could do with a shorter shaft and higher loft at the top of the bag, whether driver or other incarnation.
I created my own "mini-driver" by pulling my old Orlimar Tri metal hip Ti, 315 cc, 9.5* loft, out of the closet. Its shaft is one inch shorter than that on my 460cc driver and I find I have just about the same distance but with better consistency. I bought that Orlimar new about 25 years ago when they were the rage, and it is still good.
I had the Aeroburner mini-driver and I loved its performance. Was tons of fun and i would jump between that and a proper driver. Definitely a club that fits certain types of courses
Andy: I always find it interesting when someone mentions the top of a driver and how it looks. It seems to me when you put it on the ground behind the ball , you make sure it's square, then you never focus on it again. Or at least golfers teeing off better not be watching the club head when they swing. Fwiw, I just got fitted into the Paradym Smoke AI driver. It has blue in it and I have a blue ACCRA GX shaft. As someone who is from the Red side of Liverpool, I don't even notice the Blue. And after i've hit it, it goes back in the bag where all the Blue is hidden from view. I can cope. 😁😂
I have the TM mini driver. I use it on windy days or on tight golf courses. Also, I'm not a good driver of the ball and the big dog can often cost me 2, 3 or even 4 shots a round. Mini has me a bit further back but usually in play or even on the fairway more often. On a sunny warms day, playing with my mates on the home course, I put the G430 in the bag, but otherwise, it's the Mini.
Already have the new taylormade mini , got in the first batch out this year , love for me it has a completely different ball flight to my stealth 2 driver , a lot more penetrating, perfect on links or windy days . Have no loss on distance and use of the deck a lot
The taylormade are the retro style which many people played years ago and like , the new ones are just a smaller driver than the current range
Use the taylormade brnr mini driver had a club check on Thursday with Steve coutts at tour issue golf in York.He corrected the swing weights with driver/mini driver played around with weights and boom 💥 I can now hit this 250 on trackman.First round on the course today. You must get a proper fitter 2 dial these in 😊
Hitting more fairways but losing 10 yards is a no brainer for most of us Average Golfers.......Defo gonna try one. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thoughtful and thought provoking content as allways big fella. We are lucky in this day and age to have the options at the top of the bag that we do. For those of us that NEVER hit 3 wood off the tee and cannot hit one off the fairway the Mini Driver is an absolute godsend / no brainer. I own 4 TM MiniD's 2 x 13.5's and 2 x 11.5's depending on where I am playing. I have driver on top of that and Cleveland hy-wood 3+ bridging to the top end of my irons. These clubs have added 10 years to my game. Weirdly my brother once dated a bird called Mini Driver. Best girlfriend he ever had.
I think you are dead right, if they want to make several options for golfers to choose from then all the better
Ooohhh.... that 3+ Hywood has a future in my bag... I'm pretty sure
Love love the 3+hywood. Never coming out
@@bentottle917
I got to complete my irons first, but that will be one of tgecearlier clubs to get. Love all things cleveland
@gcoffey223 my wedges are Cleveland 50 cbx4 54 and 58 Rtx3. I use the 4 hy as well and I've just picked up a Cleveland TFi MEZZO 2135 Black Putter / 34 Inch. I got to stop😂 I blame @TheAverageGolfer
Great session...thanks for this. I'm a Callaway fanboy so I had to get it and I hope it helps me out with my drives.
Thanks and good luck
I purchased the TM BRNR and it's an absolute weapon off the tee. Accurate, long and confidence inspiring. I play driver, mini driver and a four wood.
Nice video, as always.
The Mini Driver is a new trend. I have bought the TaylorMade Burner Mini Driver and it's a great driver, with great looks.
I have changed the loft from 11.5 to 9.5, and the distance is not very different if I compare with my 460cc driver. And as you say in the video it's about confidence.
I have the Burner Mini Driver at 14 degrees and love it. Perfect compliment to my driver and 19 degree hybrid
Bobby Jones is credited with saying the most difficult place on a golf course is the 6 inches between a golfers ears. Confidence in a club especially on holes / shots that make golfers knees shake so a go to club is what we go for. Good info here Andy
Looked at mini drivers a couple of years ago. Can see the benefits clearly in every test video. For me the ‘deep faced’ 3 wood option suited best at the time but if I was looking at driver replacement then one of these would definitely be in the frame.
You are right its what suits the individual
Hello Andy , I do agree with all your remarks. Best will be for every potential buyer to go and test these clubs. Unfortunately this is often not possible or involves lots of travel to find a place where you can test these kind of clubs. 😢😢😢
Probably not because my 12 degree Sim Max is absolutely my favorite club in the bag. Also, I feel super confident with my driver so I rarely hit anything different unless I am laying back and at that point my 7 wood or other cubs do the job. Never been able to hit a 3W from the deck and I can't imagine this being any easier.
To each their own!
Absolutely you use what best suits 👍
I play a shortened driver with a seventy gm reg shaft as it quietens and smoothes out my swing , fairways are much much easier to hit if you know the ball is going to go somewhere near where you are aiming .
I will definitely be buying a mini or old size driver and getting it set up how i like just as soon as the markets a bit more flooded .
Most of my tee shots I use a 3 wood to hit fairways and because I can work the ball, I hit driver 1-4 times a round depending on the course. I never hit 3 wood off the deck and rarely need too. In the past two month I got the TM Mini and pulled the 3 wood, last month I pulled the Driver and replaced my 5 wood with the TM QI tour 5 wood which I adjusted down to 16.5 which I now consider a 4 wood. Three things have happened with this set up. 1-I hit more fairways and some rounds I haven’t missed a fairway, 2- I am comfortable hitting the new 4 wood off the deck, 3-My GIR’s is up 12-14%. I’m just more consistent with the Mini and still get good yardage out of it. I ordered the Callaway because I’m a club junky but I can’t believe it can be any better than the Taylormade.
Love your set up 👏
Hi Andy, see if you can get your hands on a used 16 degree Callaway Super Hybrid. I just picked up one used online for $200 Cdn and it has such a huge head and face for a hybrid, but a titanium face like a driver, that I'm thinking it could be the poor man's mini driver. I have the same club in 24 degrees and the face is ridiculously hot, I'm an average swinger and I can rip that thing 200 yards off the deck, it's silly. I will only be able to launch this 2 hybrid off a tee, but it should be a 230 yard fairway finder and $400 less than this mini driver offering from Cally (but it looks like a georgeous club, lol). Now that they are a few seasons old, the Super hybrids are going for a bargain in the 2nd hand market. It's a $500+ cdn club when new.
Definitely interested and will await the Titleist review before committing - only problem with limited release is the ability to try them out as pro-shops just don’t get them for testing. Did i miss the price?

Now this is my predicament, I’m erratic of the tee with my driver…….. so been playing the Cobra F9 5 Wood, shorter stiff shaft ……… on average playing off 25.5 I’m hitting more fairways with my longest drive off the tee of 242 yards last weekend ! I can’t get out of my mind the mini driver would suit my game, now with another Mini driver on the market which do I choose……………. You’ve given me food for thought !!
Make sure you try any before you commit to buying
I have been waiting for Callaways new mimi driver. I have been gaming in the summer a 13.5deg fairway wood off the tee, with good results.
It will be interesting to see how and wear this fits in the bag.
Hi Andy!
Very professional video as usual.
I played a 2 wood, 13 degrees for 20 years.
Persimmon Haig with a 44 inch steel shaft, C 9. Later, a Callaway 13 degree at 45 inches D2.
As drivers got bigger I was usually behind the 10-15 yards as you say. But very rarely in trouble ama could reach in 2 on long pat
5’s.
So, what if or why not try a little longer shaft say 44.5? Weights can be changed and so can shafts.
What shaft are you using in your current Mini? Been
Trying to figure that out😊
Again, great video amd to the point!
I am interested in this mini driver. Currently, I have a strong 3W in my bag that's 13.5 degrees and I hit it far better than I do my driver, but it is a smaller head and I'd love more forgiveness. It does bother me that these clubs are made in such small numbers, as I'd love to hit them and compare to see what's best but the Taylormade BRNR mini clubs are already gone. The new Callaway (the old one, the Bertha 1.5 had a really small head) has a bigger head that makes it good driver replacement and less a fairway wood replacement.
It’s ok I’ll stick to my 13 degree 3 wood from Callaway. It’s older but it works just fine
Absolutely if it aint broke dont fix it
I have the Taylor made burner mini driver, it is so easy to hit, gives me bags of confidence,
Be nice to see a head to head with both types of mini driver Andy 👌
Tonight bud 👍
@TheAverageGolfer can't wait nice one 👍
these need to be offered in higher lofts so fits the bag better, if its mainly a 3 wood replacement then make it like one 15-16* please....a "off the tee only" club when a driver is too much, thats the gap we NEED...and w 3woods so narrow now this is a must for me, any suggestions for high moi deep face NON draw bias 3 wood? cheers f AZ! (112* today!!! ball go far!!)
Last 2 wood I saw in real life was made out of persimmon and almost certainly had a size of less than 300cc maybe less than 250cc.
I still think it is fair to call a mini driver a modern interpretation of a 2w - although tbh you can call it a pink elephant is you like, the key is how it delivers not what you call it.
The modern 2w, the mini driver, is almost certainly a lot easier to hit off the deck than the old 2w - not that I have the skill to do so with either!
I know from past videos that my swing speed is broadly similar to Andy's. A mini driver, when warmed up, with a carry of 220-225 yards is very decent. A good 15 yards longer than my 5w. Definitely an interesting concept
I would love to find an old 2 wood and give it a bash
@TheAverageGolfer
I would love to see that video... I never hit one, but I seen a few of them.
Best
I play the 300 mini driver. Fairway finder and sounds lovely off the face.
Yep I love it
I had the burner...yet I could not get any consistency vs my Ping. However, looking at your numbers vs swing speed I may need to try the Callaway but will probably have to wait for Version 3 as I'm sure there will be a high demand.
I think they might go quick but who knows
I'm lucky... my 3W and me get along just fine. Need to add a driving iron, take out my chipper (SAD SAD SAD DAY WHEN IT HAPPENS😢😢) and maybe replace 4 hybrid with 3+ hywood. It's a process. I bet many folks will love these mini drivers, I just don't have the room in the bag at 14 clubs
Like you say it’s a process and need to make good decisions
I kinda want 1 of these to replace my 3 wood and keep the normal driver in the bag with it
Your link for Average Golfer merchandise is not working. Is that because I’m in the United States? Thanks for the great content.
I have the old one and use it because I Hate giant heads..I can count on hitting a fairway with it..would like the new technology though..ps , I just went back to my blades!...old school, I guess..nice review 😅. STRESSDR
Looks like ~35 yards left to right pattern. That's pretty darn good.
This isn’t Callaway’s first mini driver, they had one out a while back, 2015?, the mini 1.5 in 12 and 14 degrees I think and 235 cc!
Correct
If this was made of wood, it would be a lot like drivers from when I was a kid. ⛳️
does it have a driver adapter or a fairway adapter
Ooft. I'll be all over this. Have a TM 300 mini as I Can't hit a driver for toffee, but the 300 keeps me mostly straight. but! I love the paradym 5 and 7 woods I have. Easy to hit and consistent.
Will you sell me this one Andy!?
😂😂 not mine to sell I’m afraid
@@TheAverageGolfer it'll be our secret!
Sticking with the Taylor made baby driver pal 👍🤟
I may film a head to head soon
@@TheAverageGolfer great shout that Andy 🤛
Any thoughts on just getting a second hand 12 degree adjustable driver and chopping the shaft down by 2 inches? Save a ton of cash and have more real estate on the end of the shaft.
Of course it’s an option but you will remove the option to play from the fairway imo and that’s why this isn’t just a chopped down driver
I’m not sure how a mini driver would be better than a driver with a short shaft.
Andy i did hear pxg may be releasing one as well 🤷 and Ping
This would probably be like my Taylormade r7 driver but with a shorter shaft
I think a fun (and informative) comparison would be "old" vs "new". Is the new TM Burner really that much better than the original - especially if the same shaft could be used? Same goes for the Callaway and the others. Could save a few pesos if just upgrading the shaft on an older clubhead gives similar results.
The new Mini driver is no better than the Original One (2019), I don’t think there is any suggestion that it is 👍
@@TheAverageGolfer Sorry, I meant the very first version, I think the TM model came with a bubble shaft(??)
@@montegustafson5142 we might just have found one…..but keep it too yourself, just getting it regripped👍
I ain’t very good with a driver off the tee at all, I prefer to use a 2iron instead but might try this out sometime
For most golfers a 2 iron would be a scary option!
@@TheAverageGolfer that’s very true, I prefer it and it’s easier to hit aswell
Callaway did one years ago with the big Bertha mini, I bought one but it didn’t fit me as well as the Taylormade. I’ve only played mini drivers for years. Problem here in NL it’s near impossible to get a new one, same problem with your putter manufacturer as well.
Yes I remember it well
Not really considered one, i’m only 220-230 off the tee and very accurate, tend to hit driver everywhere except in the summer i put my 2 rescue in the bag. Must admit my ears pricked up when you hit it off the deck, the only club i tee up is my driver which i also hit off the deck when needed.
Thats the key, if you are good with driver then why bother with another option
I think it’s a fantastic idea for me, a mid handicap golfer standing at 5’ 8”, l think one of these mini drivers would fly just as far as a main driver because I would have more control. Why are these companies making them as a limited edition?
Titleist Mini driver, yes please!
I think in general Callaway’s 2024 has been banger after banger
That’s fair comment
I would consuder a mini driver if it was the size of a real 2 wood like cobra had a few years ago. It was 230 cc and easy to hit off the ground. Cobra long tom.
Andy, what happened to the 1 inch shorter driver phase?. Stats show fairways hit with driver vs 3 wood are extremely similar regardless of handicap (within reason). As a mini driver user in the past, I have reverted to your advice to shorten my driver by an inch. I find this is the happy medium between stock driver and 3 wood. Mini driver has no place now.
Interesting how the old basics of golf come back in the end. Back in persimmon days, the drivers were for the professionals and elite amateurs, 2-woods for everyone else. Very few people are truly successful with a modern driver. Ego will stop most male golfers but a 43.75” shaft, more loft and an adequately sized head is perfect for most male golfers. One issue, the manufacturers want us to struggle with the professional drivers so we keep trying to buy success each year at £600 a pop. It’s a no brainer but 99% of golfers aren’t listening 🤷♂️
Very good point
When’s buckpool video coming out
I'll wait for the Cobra.
Looks good, but I’m keeping my 3 wood.
Nice vid mate...not for me I hit my driver well and am confident with it 💪 do t get the mini driver craze tbh 🤷
I have the Callaway original mini driver, and I would buy this in a second if I had the $$$$$$$
All I did was put a mini driver shaft in my Sim2 maxD head simples 🎉
Are titleist definitely bringing out one ?
Pretty sure I’ve seen some images of something similar 🤷♂️
Titleist? I’m intrigued….
I’ve heard that PXG are going to release a “secret weapon” mini driver, that one has my interest.
Yes but nothing so far
glad i didnt hesitate already sold out.
Just get a driver fitted with 1” shorter shaft
One thing i dont think you mentioned the price £450
Not really my thing to discuss price
Is PXG releasing their mini driver?
I’m not sure bud
Owned most the mini drivers ever launched. Love them, but it is an expensive club and hard to come by.
£450 for a mini driver the world gone nuts
It's a great product but we've made 5 😂😂😂😂😂 ridiculous Andy these companies do this
Let's be clear here, the industry creates the need for these products not the consumer. That's the same industry that created the need for 4 wedges, or the 5 wood, or the 7 wood or the 2 iron, the mallet putter, I could go on but I think we've got the jist.
We should have stuck to niblicks and cleeks, as for graphite we didn’t need that nonsense we had hickory 😂🙄
@@TheAverageGolfer Yet the average handicap of a golfer in the world has gone up in the past 20 years, go figure.
@@Itsthejourneynotthedestination the introduction of WHS and handicaps of up to 54 will mean the average handicap will rise significantly compared to previously, that’s nothing to do with equipment
Most average players would benefit far more from a fairway wood shaft on their driver (and adjusting swing weight) than from buying one of these mini drivers.
For what reason?
@@TheAverageGolfer The issue amateurs have with driver is almost always due to the length of the shaft. Most modern driver shafts are now 45.75" and while that theoretically increases max distance, the inconsistency inherent to a longer shaft is significant.
Even tour pros play shafts shorter than 45" on the driver.
Too expensive! Just buy an older shorter driver.
Good advice!
I love Callaway. But this club is useless for the majority. It will only really appeal to those big hitters who need to keep their 340 yd drives down to 315 on only a few courses that require it. None of us want to hit that off the deck. Most of us have a Fairway finder. For me, it's a 2i or 5w. I can see a few people who play short municipal courses that hit it good enough to not need driver but also can't hit 3w.
How would you explain the success of the TaylorMade product? its hard deny its popularity
Idk I drive average about 280 and the mini pushes farther than my 4 fairway wood so it’s a nice in between for my bag
As a TM Brnr Mini owner who does not bomb it off the tee, the accuracy greatly outweighs the distance lost because what’s the point of hitting it long and wrong? I think it fits most golfers because the majority struggle with driver so if you can simplify the game by hitting more fairways why wouldn’t you play it?
@@TheAverageGolfer I get your point.. But I think a majority buy it just because it's available to buy. This mini from Callaway just seems like a barely smaller driver.
@@reymundocastro2698 I suppose. I see your point. I can't wrap my head around buying a mini version of the club you can't hit anyways. How far do you hit yours compared to a decent strike with the driver?
I can tell you that for me, all of today’s drivers are too big. Even the mini’s. I started with wooden woods because that’s all there was back then. From
Heel to toe they weee small but still have a tall face. This is why they are so popular. I won’t buy one because they have too much lost on them for me. If they had them in a 9 degree loft, then maybe. They are still large for my liking. I am one that does not need loft to hit the ball far. I need a square face and the right shorter shaft and I can find the middle of the fairway every time. I can’t do it with today’s drivers. I still use an old stainless driver that is the size of a persimmon head. And it’s 43 1/2” long. I have always been able to find the middle of the face. To me, these oversized heads, especially for pros just shows how poor of a ball striker the are if they need something that big to find somewhere near the huddle of the face. It’s like cheating. I can also jot my old persimmon sized driver farther than I can today’s drivers. I also prefer small forged irons. As close to a blade as possible. Yet another that I could always hit straight. I used to
Come home with more golf
Balls that what I had to start with. I never lost one because I never missed a fairway.
It would be much better if all the club manufacturers offered a 44 inch 460cc driver that was specifically optimised for a 44 inch length.
For a Premium Video why are you Teeing it up with an old dirty Ball.Dont get it.
I’d love to know what difference it would make to the video if I was to use a new ball? By the way it wasn’t old 👍 I really do struggle to be civil with some of this nonsense
Don’t think it will be better then taylormade don’t think it will be my opinion now
They are all the same!
Ah yes, another club that can discriminate against the lefty golfers
Oh no !
