I am a huge music lover and this song is in my top 5 which also includes Solsbury HIll and Brand New by Simply Red. I feel so privileged that I was able to see David perform live in 2006.

However, the original song remains for me the best ever - the second verse here is not the same. there is the original kicking about somewhere possibly on Vimeo with the original song I think he made at art school and it features folk from his home town etc. Anyway, for me, the original can never be surpassed as a brilliant, beautiful, heart-warming pure pop song classic :) All the best our kid :)

David is such an underrated singer , live he is totally brilliant.Anyone who loves real music should go see him.He must have played this song a 1000 times on stage , but he plays it everytime with all his heart .I think its because he knows how much it means to his fans , just a normal bloke like us .

So gray by touring Ireland for two years from 1998 to 2000 built his career from the ground up. Recorded white ladder which he had to self promote because the Record companies would not touch him with a barge pole. White ladder sold 250,000 copies. And all through word of mouth. In 2000 he got a slot on Glastonbury and on the same day as Bowie who his dad spoke to for 25 mins before david gray went on stage. He came back to Ireland for white ladder 30th anniversary. Ireland kick started his career
