Make a Router Guide JIG

  • Опубликовано: 31 окт 2019
  • Hello friends!
    I made a dado guide jig with adjustable width.
    A dado joint is a flat bottom groove that is cut to fit the width of another piece of wood.
    The optimal groove width can be adjusted just by inserting the wood used for the dado joint.
    These can be used for supporting shelves in cabinets or dividers in boxes.
    Also, by removing the adjustment screw, it can be used as a simple straight cut jig.
    Jig plan convenient for woodworking

    The design and construction of this jig is so simp,e and elegant. It’s easy to build. And it so effective. I’ve looked at so many router dado jigs videos on you tube. This is by FAR the best. I’m making it this week. You sir have great engineering skills in the design of your tools and jigs. Keep up the great work. 👏👏👏

    NICE! THIS can cut, can route, can clean edges, etc.... LOVE IT!
    I am not a pro carpenter, nor do I do carpentry alot at home. I simply and rarely have burst of carpentry DIY at home and definitely THIS is a better investment than a table saw or rotary saw.

    JSK is a total master but i still have to point out a mistake. the rounded edge of the router base should be kept flush against the fence and not the straight edge to eliminate errors due to slight rotation

    JSK-san, I see that you have improved on some other versions by making your jig matched to the two sides of your plunge router base plate. Good thinking.
    It is an important detail to add, because many routers do not have a perfectly centered collet relative to the base plate. Matching and marking the sides of your router base plate to their mated sides of the jig goes a long way toward increasing the accuracy and repeatability of the dados and rebates the jig will make.
    Well done, JSK-san.

    It can work with the same milling-cutter diameter only. The bigger one anyway cuts this template, the smaller one doesn't reach the edge... But it's good solution if it assumed only the same milling-cutter (diameter) to be used.

    Sir, you are a real inspiration. All of your videos of great quality work and I like especially your calmed down movements, making it seem all so easy.
    How do you avoid slipping of the guide? I had already a lot of failed cuts with the router, because the guide or the underlying work piece did slip while making the cut. Especially if the work piece is melamin coated - even I applied 4 clamps and used double sided tape.

    Oh also, why do you create the 2 halves separately? Why not use one piece of wood and sandwich the router between the aluminium edges, stick them down so you then know they are in exactly the correct position and then just router the piece in two? Or am I missing something here?
    Excellent videos, thanks.

    I really like how this guy is working , it is always clean and perfect. The tools and jigs what he makes are perfect. Only concern I have is the information what he keeps back. I usually go through on the comments for some of the videos to see if there is any information regarding the used parts what we can buy. There are several questions and request for a link for the parts what he is using like here the aluminum part. But he is not really responsive regarding these requests. I know I can buy the plans but I do not know if the plans are contains this information or not. If no all the information is in the plan what I would like to buy, than it is not really a good deal for me. I think it would be better if he share these information or at least put in the description section if the used parts are in the plan what he sell.
    But I like how he is working. Just keep up this.

    Very simple and useful, but wouldn't you have to make several based on the diameter of the straight bit used? I think I'd base mine on the smallest possible bit... say 3/16" for 1/4" plywood (knowing plywood is usually narrower than advertised). Might be worth making a second for larger dados, so you don't have to clean out so much between the main passes.

      Типичный перевод AliExpress

    • @kesha221211
      @kesha221211 4 года назад

      @@lexmakes Очень сомневаюсь. Если вы заметили, то автор этой серии роликов не китаец, а японец. И как при этом мог поучаствовать в переводе AliExpress, мне непонятно. Кстати, Гугл-переводчик также переводит "router" как "маршрутизатор". Для перевода текстов по электронике и системам связи это - правильный перевод.

    im no expert with a router and just learing more about using it......but is this only for that bit?? so if you use a wider bit it wont work?? or you have to make a jig for different size bits?

    • @langrock74
      @langrock74 4 года назад +1

      Gary Bowen Yes, and no. It only works for a single bit, but for dados you really don’t need more than a single bit. Let’s say you use this for boards of at least 1/4’’ width. You would then go with a bit slightly smaller than that. It will work for larger boards as well, of course, but you need more passes.
