  • Freightliner flu-419, unimog406, 419a, not charging. Alternator tested good by bosch dealer. Turned out to be faulty relay. Faulty part number Bosch 0-332-002-258. Found one in southern Ohio at j&n auto 513-771-8000 option 3 for 57.00. Also found some new on ebay for 14.00 at electronicswarehouseca 9.95+shipping. Problem was inside relay, coil wire overheated and melted/broke. Couldn't solder it back as it was the inner coil lead wire.
To test your relay... you will get no readings across small connectors. If u have no reading... u may have bad coil like I did.
Rating on relay is 24v/50amp. Any relay with that rating may work.
Also... if ur alternator indicator bulb burns out... alternator will not work. It needs a 2-5w lamp load to excite.

you can abandon the relay, its wiring, the noise suppressors and just wire up whats left of the wiring to the correct terminals on the alternator and it will work fine and the back of the alternator without all that noise suppressor crap cleans up nicely.
