Yeah. I watched this over and over trying to work out which person visible in the 2nd building-mounted shot was the one who took the first 'running' video. He's the guy in a grey hoodie and cream leggings, who comes out from behind the truck right at the start of the shot, holding a phone out to in his left hand. He's running forward (quite fast) so I have no idea how he managed to keep the camera pointed in the right direction. But yeah rarely do people in that sort of situation manage to get good footage as they have more important things to worry about, but he did a great job.
This makes me think about when kids see a sign with a big red dot that means stop. The words are included that state "Do Not Touch" or "Alarm will go off Do not Touch" and there are quite a few that will do it. My nephew would see those signs and couldn't resist. Whenever I would go to the JC Penny's and the escalators weren't working I would tell myself "I bet my mom was here with my nephew." Sure enough, I would run into them. The conflicts that occurred after World War II-the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Gulf War-are among the most critical events of our time. Hahahaha I'm from Nebraska and some friends and I went to the Pacific Ocean on vacation and I did EXACTLY THAT and almost drowned. I was out in the water only thigh deep, and I turned around to face the beach (my back to the ocean) to yell at my friends to come into the water. All of a suddenly they started screaming at me, and pointing but it was too hard to hear what they were saying. So I turned back to face the ocean to go out further, just in time to see a monster wave coming right down on top of me. It crashed down on me and picked me up and swirled me over and over in every direction. I lost all sense of direction. Luckily I was a trained competitive swimmer, so I told myself "don't fight it, just hold your breath and let it carry you to shore." It did, but it drug me through sand and gravel and sticks and weeds. When it finally slammed me on to the beach I had scratches all over, sticks and sand in my swimming suit, and gravel in my mouth. It just dumped me there on the sand and then slurked back into the waterike it was pleased with itself. Well, I gathered my wits, picked up my beach towel, and went back to our hotel room. So your mother spoke TRUTH!!!
People were warned 24 hrs or more before this happened to stay away due to very high surf. Yet they went out there anyway. They even put a lifeguard's life in danger trying to rescue someone. People just don't know how to listen and just do what they want. Then when they get hurt everyone is supposed to feel sorry for them. You don't listen to the experts, bad things are going to happen to you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Just don't take innocent people with you because you can't listen.
We have high winds that cause some massive waves here on the Big Lake Michigan, people do the same thing.. don’t listen. Get washed off the pier and some don’t get rescued or found ☹️

You're not adding all the extra water from melting ice caps that has been added to the ocean. It's not as noticeable when the ocean is calm but we are starting to notice it with storm surges. Local people didn't expect it because it's not normal for this to occur. We've been hit with harder weather than this and this never happened. I've noticed less sand on our beach every year as it just takes more and more earth.
It was a high surf advisory. The waterline at high tide is a food 100 yards from the end of Seaward Avenue. It was a freak episode caused by a rogue wave riding on top of the previous wave. The probability/cost ratio is low. In other words the odds of this happening is unlikely and if it does the cost/risk of it resulting in something catastrophic is low.

That is not a rise in mean sea level (MSL) but a rise in relative MSL (SL relative to the land at a specific location). For every area where there is a rise in rMSL there is also a fall in rMSL. In California the North American plate is moving WSW at about 1.25" per year and the San Gabriel Mountains are rising about 10 mm per year. The very concept of "sea level" is a fallacy. Sea level is mean. A mean that makes up a 180m spread. The beach where this video (Pierpont Beach at the end of Seaward Ave.) was taken is actually about 100 meters wider then it was in the 1960s. This is due to building a series of jetties out . The reason the jetties were built was to widen the beach by trapping the migrating sand. Before then the lanes ending on the beach would commonly be flooded if a large swell occurred during high tides, especially during the springs (vs the neeps)
I live two blocks from the beach in LA and i dont feel bad for the idiots that choose to get close to the water. As i was walking my dog yesterday morning I saw so many people down on the sand taking photos, what geniuses!
I grew up in California; spent a lot of my youth at the beach. I even lived in Huntington for a while. What amazes me is how many people living there don't understand that water doesn't _compress_ . It's already as dense as it gets, and when it comes, it does not stop until gravity starts pulling it back, depending on what energy is behind it. Doesn't matter what's in the way of it, water will overwhelm *all* obstacles no matter what. The Pacific is pretty much anything but "peaceful"... and will mindlessly kill you if you don't pay attention and give it the respect it deserves.
I live in South Mississippi and I’ve been in or around many hurricanes in my 60 years. Storm surge is always the most dangerous. Some people just don’t get it.

Thank God noone was missing. I grew up next to the eastern Caribbean sea. As a child i slept by the sounds of waves. The respect given to this powerful source of life is amazing. Water is alive and has memory and absorbs human toxic energy. And just like a mother, she will give you ample warning..❤
Sucks for those people who got injured. The warnings have being going on for a few days now, I even get text warnings. They chose to ignore common sense now they'll have medical bills to pay.
I have lived up and down the west coast my whole life and rogue waves are just what they sound like. Some times the Pacific Ocean reaches out and surprises you. I don't even live near a beach, but it's always wise to heed warnings when it comes to the ocean if given a warning in advance. I've seen enough videos of tsunamis and strong waves to know NEVER stay when there are a risk of high waves or if the water recedes further than usual. Once your feet are knocked out from under you, you belong to the water's current and it can be deadly even in shallow currents. Please heed warnings about the ocean and stay safe out there.

It was a rogue wave, more then likely a wave that had accumulated on top of the previous wave. It was not a big deal and in no way could be compared to a tsunami. except in the sense that the damage caused by a tsunami is due to the long wave length that builds up when it hits shallow water/land.

As a Dutchman I can say people from most other countries have for 1. No respect for the ocean and the dangers of it 2. People who don't live near water lack swimming skills and especially the necessary swimming skills for if you are going to swim in the ocean

I grew up right there.. I know it's the Maverick for the surfers but they are putting a lot of responders lives in danger.. my nephew is one of the responders.
Sadly, people still won't learn to listen to warnings. It sucks people got hurt, but truthfully, it was their own stupidity that nearly got them killed. They had ample warning of this and chose to ignore it. Can't really feel sorry for people who choose to ignore clear warnings.
There was no "warnings". What was issued was a "high surf advisory" which has no bearing on the end of Seaward Ave. The warnings will usually prompt the closure of the pier and the cops will keep people off the jetties and prohibit them from going into the water. Ironically the city used to bulldoze sand berms every year to help protect the building from the seasonal high surf. However the California Coastal Commission stopped the practice stating environmental damage.
@@YoshiYosheda My general practice during a tsunami warning is to go sailing. The one exception was after the Japanese quake. My engine was in bits so I couldn't leave harbor so myself and and a dozen or so locals manned our tenders to protect our boats. The biggest threat being the rise in sea level causing the floating docks to break free of the pilings.

The people at the end of Seaward Ave didn't really do anything "stupid". They were just watching the waves, probably after hearing the High Surf Advisory.. The end of Seaward Ave never closes down during a high surf advisory since the waterline at high tide is about 100 meters from that small retaining wall you see at the end of the parking lot. Where the people were standing has always been considered a safe point to watch the surf in those conditions. It was a rogue wave, a freak, nothing more.
Everyone was warned days ahead of time and this occurs quite often here. This video is great to show people what NOT to do. They are making this dramatic like the ocean rose out of nowhere. Don't stand on the beach when there is high surf. It really is that simple! 🙄

Modern military technology, including nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, have increased the effects of war to an extent never before seen in history. Because of the weapons of mass destruction that have been developed, it is commonly accepted that the world will not enter into a third world war. The conflicts that occurred after World War II-the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Gulf War-are among the most critical events of our time. Likewise, regional wars, conflicts and civil wars, have caused destruction in many parts of the world. In places such as Bosnia, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Kashmir and many others, problems continue to afflict humanity.Another instance of a type of "chaos" that concerns human beings as much as war is organized international terror. As authorities on the subject also agree, acts of terror have multiplied in the latter half of the twentieth century.5 Indeed, it is even possible to say that terror is a phenomenon particular to the twentieth century. Organizations devoted to racism, communism and similar ideologies, or with nationalistic aims, have engaged in acts of brutality with the help of the developing technology. Within the world's recent history, acts of terror have, time and again, fomented chaos. Much blood has been shed and countless innocent people have been maimed or killed. I've lived in S. California all my life and this does happen fairly regularly at this time of year. However these people are very lucky that they didn't have the usual trifecta of disastrous shoreline activity ; we had high surf and a full moon but luckily there wasn't a winter Pacific storm along with it. I have seen what that trifecta can do in the past, especially in flat areas like Huntington and Seal Beach. I worked in HB one time when we did have all three and the flooding went inland for several miles, ruining homes and businesses.

If they WANT to build in those spaces, they should have to pay for their own replacement costs & etc, & not be offered insurance policies at all. I grew up at the beach, and when I was little I would regularly have dreams of a massive wave turning our home near the water, into a beachfront home. It was always scary, but fun at the same time. Then, one day I went down to the beach, and saw water/sand/debris streets up from the beach, from these massive waves that swept through the area. I walked further to the beach and saw all the homes retaining walls covered in kelp and the homes flooded. It opened my eyes to the possible reality of all the homes in the area.
Those walls of sand will not be able to stop the force of the waves. Because water has such strong force that it will destroy whatever it is on its way.

I can taste the salt water up my nose in empathy. Was a kid in L.A. in late 60s; lots of play at Seal Beach and a few fishing trips in the harbor. As someone who was born in Simi Valley; which is a part of Ventura County, I can’t help but feel bad for these people. Let this be a most painful lesson to those who don’t listen to weather warnings. During the Winter stay off the beach. The waters become way more dangerous due to the gravitational field switches.

Some rogue waves really do come out of nowhere with zero warning. The Waianae coast of Oahu is a place that has them sometimes. We were nowhere near the high tide line camping on the beach and one washed our tent out to sea, along with a lot of other folk's stuff. But this case, they literally warned that it was a distinct possibility.
OMG it happened again. My daughter and I were hit by a rogue wave in 2004 in Ventura beach. We were high up on the rock too and the wave was able to reach us! It was crazy!
Now that is not new. Every few years it seems we lose a part of it in a bad storm. They close it down for a couple of years to rebuild it only to have to rinse and repeat years later. It's been that way for as long as I remember, I'm a Ventura native, lived here most of my 46 years, 20 of them living in the Keys, yesterday was gnarly!

Yeah. I watched this over and over trying to work out which person visible in the 2nd building-mounted shot was the one who took the first 'running' video. He's the guy in a grey hoodie and cream leggings, who comes out from behind the truck right at the start of the shot, holding a phone out to in his left hand. He's running forward (quite fast) so I have no idea how he managed to keep the camera pointed in the right direction. But yeah rarely do people in that sort of situation manage to get good footage as they have more important things to worry about, but he did a great job.

However, wars that affected everyone in the world, political systems, entire economies and social structures, have happened only comparatively recently, in the two world wars. In World War I, more than 20 million died; in World War II, the toll was more than 50 million. At the same time, World War II is acknowledged to have been the bloodiest, the greatest and the most destructive war in history.
Modern military technology, including nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, have increased the effects of war to an extent never before seen in history. Because of the weapons of mass destruction that have been developed, it is commonly accepted that the world will not enter into a third world war.
The conflicts that occurred after World War II-the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Gulf War-are among the most critical events of our time. Likewise, regional wars, conflicts and civil wars, have caused destruction in many parts of the world. In places such as Bosnia, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Kashmir and many others, problems continue to afflict humanity.Another instance of a type of "chaos" that concerns human beings as much as war is organized international terror. As authorities on the subject also agree, acts of terror have multiplied in the latter half of the twentieth century.5 Indeed, it is even possible to say that terror is a phenomenon particular to the twentieth century. Organizations devoted to racism, communism and similar ideologies, or with nationalistic aims, have engaged in acts of brutality with the help of the developing technology.
Within the world's recent history, acts of terror have, time and again, fomented chaos. Much blood has been shed and countless innocent people have been maimed or killed. But still, humanity has not learned its lesson from these tragic events.
In the hadiths, the Prophet (saas) described the wars and terror that now engulf the world, and related that these things are signs of the Last Day. Today, in every part of the world, conflicts, regional as well as civil wars are pervasive.
Many countries of the world struggle with acts of terror perpetrated by their own citizens. In places like Chechnya, mass graves (right) can be found, and elderly persons, children and babies are made to suffer. This terror and conflict concerns all of us and must be considered as among the signs of the Last Day. These events that have been predicted in the hadiths are an occasion for everyone to consider and from which to learn a lesson.
In many places in the world, terror continues to be the roots of acts of murderous anarchy.
There are a number of verses of the Qur'an relevant to this subject. In Surat ar-Rum, it is stated that confusion has come upon the earth because of what human beings have wrought:
Corruption has appeared in both land and sea because of what people's own hands have brought about so that they may taste something of what they have done so that hopefully they will turn back. (Surat ar-Rum: 41)

The leader of a people will be the worst of them. [Tirmidhi]
A trust is used to make a profit. [Tirmidhi]
When a man obeys his wife and disobeys his mother; and treats his friend kindly while shunning his father. [Tirmidhi]
When voices are raised in the mosques. [Tirmidhi]
People will treat a man with respect out of fear for some evil he might do. [Tirmidhi]
Men will begin to wear silk. [Tirmidhi]
Female singers and musical instruments will become popular. [Tirmidhi]

Hahahaha I'm from Nebraska and some friends and I went to the Pacific Ocean on vacation and I did EXACTLY THAT and almost drowned. I was out in the water only thigh deep, and I turned around to face the beach (my back to the ocean) to yell at my friends to come into the water. All of a suddenly they started screaming at me, and pointing but it was too hard to hear what they were saying. So I turned back to face the ocean to go out further, just in time to see a monster wave coming right down on top of me. It crashed down on me and picked me up and swirled me over and over in every direction. I lost all sense of direction. Luckily I was a trained competitive swimmer, so I told myself "don't fight it, just hold your breath and let it carry you to shore." It did, but it drug me through sand and gravel and sticks and weeds. When it finally slammed me on to the beach I had scratches all over, sticks and sand in my swimming suit, and gravel in my mouth. It just dumped me there on the sand and then slurked back into the waterike it was pleased with itself. Well, I gathered my wits, picked up my beach towel, and went back to our hotel room.

People were warned 24 hrs or more before this happened to stay away due to very high surf. Yet they went out there anyway. They even put a lifeguard's life in danger trying to rescue someone. People just don't know how to listen and just do what they want. Then when they get hurt everyone is supposed to feel sorry for them. You don't listen to the experts, bad things are going to happen to you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Just don't take innocent people with you because you can't listen.
We have high winds that cause some massive waves here on the Big Lake Michigan, people do the same thing.. don’t listen. Get washed off the pier and some don’t get rescued or found ☹️

You're not adding all the extra water from melting ice caps that has been added to the ocean. It's not as noticeable when the ocean is calm but we are starting to notice it with storm surges. Local people didn't expect it because it's not normal for this to occur. We've been hit with harder weather than this and this never happened. I've noticed less sand on our beach every year as it just takes more and more earth.

It was a high surf advisory. The waterline at high tide is a food 100 yards from the end of Seaward Avenue. It was a freak episode caused by a rogue wave riding on top of the previous wave.
The probability/cost ratio is low. In other words the odds of this happening is unlikely and if it does the cost/risk of it resulting in something catastrophic is low.

That is not a rise in mean sea level (MSL) but a rise in relative MSL (SL relative to the land at a specific location). For every area where there is a rise in rMSL there is also a fall in rMSL.
In California the North American plate is moving WSW at about 1.25" per year and the San Gabriel Mountains are rising about 10 mm per year.
The very concept of "sea level" is a fallacy. Sea level is mean. A mean that makes up a 180m spread.
The beach where this video (Pierpont Beach at the end of Seaward Ave.) was taken is actually about 100 meters wider then it was in the 1960s. This is due to building a series of jetties out . The reason the jetties were built was to widen the beach by trapping the migrating sand. Before then the lanes ending on the beach would commonly be flooded if a large swell occurred during high tides, especially during the springs (vs the neeps)
I live two blocks from the beach in LA and i dont feel bad for the idiots that choose to get close to the water. As i was walking my dog yesterday morning I saw so many people down on the sand taking photos, what geniuses!
I grew up in California; spent a lot of my youth at the beach. I even lived in Huntington for a while. What amazes me is how many people living there don't understand that water doesn't _compress_ . It's already as dense as it gets, and when it comes, it does not stop until gravity starts pulling it back, depending on what energy is behind it. Doesn't matter what's in the way of it, water will overwhelm *all* obstacles no matter what. The Pacific is pretty much anything but "peaceful"... and will mindlessly kill you if you don't pay attention and give it the respect it deserves.

I don't even live near a beach, but it's always wise to heed warnings when it comes to the ocean if given a warning in advance. I've seen enough videos of tsunamis and strong waves to know NEVER stay when there are a risk of high waves or if the water recedes further than usual. Once your feet are knocked out from under you, you belong to the water's current and it can be deadly even in shallow currents. Please heed warnings about the ocean and stay safe out there.

It was not a big deal and in no way could be compared to a tsunami. except in the sense that the damage caused by a tsunami is due to the long wave length that builds up when it hits shallow water/land.

There was no "warnings". What was issued was a "high surf advisory" which has no bearing on the end of Seaward Ave. The warnings will usually prompt the closure of the pier and the cops will keep people off the jetties and prohibit them from going into the water.
Ironically the city used to bulldoze sand berms every year to help protect the building from the seasonal high surf. However the California Coastal Commission stopped the practice stating environmental damage.

My engine was in bits so I couldn't leave harbor so myself and and a dozen or so locals manned our tenders to protect our boats. The biggest threat being the rise in sea level causing the floating docks to break free of the pilings.

The people at the end of Seaward Ave didn't really do anything "stupid". They were just watching the waves, probably after hearing the High Surf Advisory.. The end of Seaward Ave never closes down during a high surf advisory since the waterline at high tide is about 100 meters from that small retaining wall you see at the end of the parking lot. Where the people were standing has always been considered a safe point to watch the surf in those conditions.

Hadiths of the Prophet
Fourteen hundred years ago, the Prophet Muhammad (saas) related a number of secrets concerning the Doomsday, and of his thoughts about it, to his Muslim companions. These valuable words have been passed down from generation to generation to the present day in the form of books of hadiths and works of Islamic scholars. The hadiths used in the coming sections of this book contain such information given by the Prophet (saas) in this regard.
At this point, there may arise some doubt in the reader in regards to the truth and authenticity of these hadiths about the end. It is a recognized fact that, in the past, there had been a number of fabricated hadiths falsely attributed to the Prophet (saas), but the hadiths that form the subject of our inquiry will be easily recognized as issuing from the Prophet (saas). There is a method to distinguish those that are true from those that are false. As we know, hadiths about the Doomsday relate to events that are to take place in the future. For this reason, when a hadith comes true in the course of time, all doubt as to the source of the words is removed.
Several Islamic scholars who conducted research on the subject of the End Times and of the signs of the Last Day have used this criterion. An expert on the subject, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, said that the fact that the hadiths concerning the End Times correspond to events observed in our day shows the truth of the hadiths.4
Some of the signs related in the hadiths were observable in some part of the world in any period during the 1400 year history of Islam, but that would not have proven that that period was the the End Times. For a certain period to be called the End Times, all the signs of the Last Day must be observed to be occurrence in that same period. This is expressed in a hadith:

When we examine the End Times in the light of the information related above, we come up with a surprising conclusion. The signs that the Prophet (saas) described in detail are occurring one after the other in every corner of the world, just in the way they were described in the age in which we live. It is so that the hadiths paint a perfect portrait of our time. This is indeed a miracle, and demands careful consideration. Every sign that occurs is to remind people once again that the Doomsday is very near, a day when they will give account of themselves in the presence of Allah, and therefore, that they should immediately apply the moral values of the Qur'an to their lives.
War and Anarchy
In a hadith, the Prophet (saas) described the End Times in this way:
Allah's Messenger (saas) said: "The Harj (will increase)." They asked, "What is the Harj?" He replied, "(It is) killing (murdering), (it is) murdering (killing)."(Bukhari)
The meaning of harj mentioned in the above hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (saas) is "utter confusion" and "disorder," which is not to be limited to one particular area, but will be widespread throughout the world.
Again, on this topic, the following words of the Prophet (saas) have come down to us:
The Hour will come when violence, bloodshed, and anarchy become common.(Al-Muttaqi Al-Hindi, Muntakhab Kanzul Ummaal)
The world will not come to an end until a day would come to the people on which there will be general massacre and bloodshed.(Muslim)
When we examine the above hadiths, we are led to an important conclusion. The Prophet (saas) described conflicts, chaos, murder, war to involve the whole earth, and outbreaks of terror, and revealed that these events are signs of the Last Day.
If we look at the last fourteen centuries, we see that wars were regional before the twentieth century. However, wars that affected everyone in the world, political systems, entire economies and social structures, have happened only comparatively recently, in the two world wars. In World War I, more than 20 million died; in World War II, the toll was more than 50 million. At the same time, World War II is acknowledged to have been the bloodiest, the greatest and the most destructive war in history.
Modern military technology, including nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, have increased the effects of war to an extent never before seen in history. Because of the weapons of mass destruction that have been developed, it is commonly accepted that the world will not enter into a third world war.
The conflicts that occurred after World War II-the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Gulf War-are among the most critical events of our time. Likewise, regional wars, conflicts and civil wars, have caused destruction in many parts of the world. In places such as Bosnia, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Kashmir and many others, problems continue to afflict humanity.Another instance of a type of "chaos" that concerns human beings as much as war is organized international terror. As authorities on the subject also agree, acts of terror have multiplied in the latter half of the twentieth century.5 Indeed, it is even possible to say that terror is a phenomenon particular to the twentieth century. Organizations devoted to racism, communism and similar ideologies, or with nationalistic aims, have engaged in acts of brutality with the help of the developing technology.
Within the world's recent history, acts of terror have, time and again, fomented chaos. Much blood has been shed and countless innocent people have been maimed or killed. But still, humanity has not learned its lesson from these tragic events.
In the hadiths, the Prophet (saas) described the wars and terror that now engulf the world, and related that these things are signs of the Last Day. Today, in every part of the world, conflicts, regional as well as civil wars are pervasive.
Many countries of the world struggle with acts of terror perpetrated by their own citizens. In places like Chechnya, mass graves (right) can be found, and elderly persons, children and babies are made to suffer. This terror and conflict concerns all of us and must be considered as among the signs of the Last Day. These events that have been predicted in the hadiths are an occasion for everyone to consider and from which to learn a lesson.
In many places in the world, terror continues to be the roots of acts of murderous anarchy.
There are a number of verses of the Qur'an relevant to this subject. In Surat ar-Rum, it is stated that confusion has come upon the earth because of what human beings have wrought:
Corruption has appeared in both land and sea because of what people's own hands have brought about so that they may taste something of what they have done so that hopefully they will turn back. (Surat ar-Rum: 41)
Time will pass rapidly. [Bukhari, Muslim, & Ahmad]
Good deeds will decrease. [Bukhari]
People will become miserly. [Bukhari]
There will be much killing and murder. [Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, & Ahmad]
Power and authority will be given to wrong people. [Bukhari]
Honesty will be lost. [Bukhari]
The disappearance of knowledge and the appearance of ignorance [Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, & Ahmad]
Two large groups, adhering to the same religious teaching, will fight each other with large numbers of casualties. [Bukhari & Muslim]
Earthquakes will increase [Bukhari & Muslim]
Wealth will be in abundance, to the extent that it will be difficult to find someone in need of Zakat. [Bukhari]
When people begin to compete with others in the construction of taller buildings. [Bukhari]
A man will pass by a grave and wish that he was in their place. [Bukhari]
The conquest of Constantinople by the Muslims. [Ahmad, Muslim]
The consumption of intoxicants will be widespread. [Bukhari & Muslim]
Adultery and fornication will be prevalent. [Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah]
Women will outnumber men, eventually the ratio will be 50 women to 1 man. [Bukhari, Muslim, & Ahmad]
People will cheat with goods. [Ibn Majah]
Paying Zakat becomes a burden and miserliness becomes widespread; charity is given reluctantly. [Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah]
Only the rich receive a share of any gains, and the poor do not. [Tirmidhi]
The leader of a people will be the worst of them. [Tirmidhi]
A trust is used to make a profit. [Tirmidhi]
When a man obeys his wife and disobeys his mother; and treats his friend kindly while shunning his father. [Tirmidhi]
When voices are raised in the mosques. [Tirmidhi]
People will treat a man with respect out of fear for some evil he might do. [Tirmidhi]
Men will begin to wear silk. [Tirmidhi]
Female singers and musical instruments will become popular. [Tirmidhi]

I've lived in S. California all my life and this does happen fairly regularly at this time of year. However these people are very lucky that they didn't have the usual trifecta of disastrous shoreline activity ; we had high surf and a full moon but luckily there wasn't a winter Pacific storm along with it. I have seen what that trifecta can do in the past, especially in flat areas like Huntington and Seal Beach. I worked in HB one time when we did have all three and the flooding went inland for several miles, ruining homes and businesses.
Interesting how businesses were built right in its path.

I’m so glad no one is trying to blame cLiMaTe cHaNgE. Because I’ve lived in Vancouver for 40 years. We are at sea level, the sea level hasn’t changed. The sea walls are the same as they were over 50 years ago, and the water ISNT rising.
Which is why places like Huntington Beach and Seal Beach need to be BEACHES ONLY, & have no waterfront properties or businesses directly adjacent to the water. If they WANT to build in those spaces, they should have to pay for their own replacement costs & etc, & not be offered insurance policies at all. We have GOTTA start cutting off these properties that cost entirely too much to rebuild, over and over and over again…

I grew up at the beach, and when I was little I would regularly have dreams of a massive wave turning our home near the water, into a beachfront home. It was always scary, but fun at the same time. Then, one day I went down to the beach, and saw water/sand/debris streets up from the beach, from these massive waves that swept through the area. I walked further to the beach and saw all the homes retaining walls covered in kelp and the homes flooded. It opened my eyes to the possible reality of all the homes in the area.

As someone who was born in Simi Valley; which is a part of Ventura County, I can’t help but feel bad for these people. Let this be a most painful lesson to those who don’t listen to weather warnings. During the Winter stay off the beach. The waters become way more dangerous due to the gravitational field switches.

Dang. Sounds awful. East Coasters are definitely more vulnerable due to lack of mountains and high lands. At least if shtf here, us West Coasters could evac higher up should our cities be lost. Hope you and your fam are safe though.

@@conephompany The gravitational force of the moon is not affected by how much light is reflected off of it. Just because you can’t see the full moon doesn’t mean the entire moon isn’t there. Are you a 2 year old who thinks if you can’t see something it doesn’t exist?
Some rogue waves really do come out of nowhere with zero warning. The Waianae coast of Oahu is a place that has them sometimes. We were nowhere near the high tide line camping on the beach and one washed our tent out to sea, along with a lot of other folk's stuff. But this case, they literally warned that it was a distinct possibility.

OMG it happened again. My daughter and I were hit by a rogue wave in 2004 in Ventura beach. We were high up on the rock too and the wave was able to reach us! It was crazy!

The Ventura Pier has been closed for over a year!!!
Now that is not new. Every few years it seems we lose a part of it in a bad storm. They close it down for a couple of years to rebuild it only to have to rinse and repeat years later. It's been that way for as long as I remember, I'm a Ventura native, lived here most of my 46 years, 20 of them living in the Keys, yesterday was gnarly!
