Thanks for playing more. As always, nice work putting the video together. I cannot imagine how much work is actually involved. I am absolutely technologically inept, so I really cannot imagine how much work is really involved. What i do have is a a feeling that the work vs compensation/payoff is possibly, or likely heavily imbalanced. Anywho, thanks. Clearly, you are a good dude on many levels.
Haha that’s the truth... but honestly I’m doing it because I love to teach the little that I know... and by knowing that someone like yourself is learning something from it... is the reason why I really started to upload. Thanks for your suggestions and support!
Hi I'm a conga-player from France, and I really like your videos ! Thank you so much for explaining all these little tricks and techniques used by great percussionists, because they never explain themselves, and it's almost impossible to find out what they are doing. I've already found out many answers on your videos (like for "la mano secreta"). Your explanations are very good and clear, with a little touch of humor. Great and thanks again !!!!
Love you man! I started to take conga lessons 5 years ago (I'm 66 yrs old) and love playing. I use your tutorials constantly along with my regular lessons. You blow my mind!!!!!
Hey man where are you from?? You are a crear teacher, i think the best from youtube, nota everybody have the capacity to teach like you, blessing anda grettings from Perú!!!
You are amazing Eric! You always put a lot of work into your videos & admire you for what you do for all of us who enjoy learning something new & yet to me is fun & brings me joy! Thanks for posting! You have helped me so much!
Thanks for another informative and useful video Eric. It seems like an advanced technique but I will incorporate it into my practice and see how i get on ....
Mannnn! Thank you Eric! I have literally been working on this move for years. And the only example I've been looking at is Giovanni's "mama and daddy" move as he calls it. So even though I know it's doubles, it's just a awesome move that takes a lot of practice. But, you always have a way of breaking things down and at least making them look and seem a little easier. Thanks a lot!
Wow! Ojala algún día yo pueda hacer eso Maestro; gracias por alzar tanto la barra y darnos motivación para progresar. Los caminos del conguero son infinitos. Great video, great communication and a fantastic humble Man sharing his precious knowledge. Blessings!.... Y no dejare de intentarlo, así yo haya empezado tarde a estudiar este noble instrumento.
Really enjoying your videos! As a dabbler in other hand drums, I'm curious as to why conga players don't do finger rolls like on the darbuka? Is it mostly just out of tradition, or would the sound not be as full?
Hi Eric Have you ever watched a Miguel (Angá) Diaz tutorial video. He actually talk about two different technic to double struck. It's like a stick control he said. It ain't easy anyway. But it's interesting the way some percussionist can achieve that drumming effect. You do real good. My fingers are too skinny, they do not bounce much on the drum.
The secret to getting finely muscled controlled doubles with your wrists for me? Practice muscle controlled triples. Also, triples where you accentuate the third note. It forces your hands to open all three quick wrist strokes. Then when you switch to doubles, your wrist control is already established.
Love all your vids. I remember the first time watching my teacher do a "drag roll" ---I can't remember the proper Spanish name--I was like, "WTF?!" I couldn't figure out how his fingers bounced like that.
Bro thank you! Awesome lessons ... Question? When it came to practicing those doubles, how long would you practice each day on doubles alone and at what tempo settings on your metronome?
paul boyter soooo the link below was the methods I used.... when I first started I focused on just my doubles daily for about 15-30mins.... eventually I just practiced them for 10mins everyday.... but I revisit them all the time.... metronome I started very very slow.... I went from 50bpm and then 75bpm, 100 bpm, 125bpm and so on ruclips.net/video/Gsb79Fhtu8Y/видео.html
Hey bruddah...live your vids man. I have a question for you. Not a technique question. More of a drum preference thing. My question to you is.... Out of all congas out there... Artisan and assembly line, what made you choose the Gio models by lp? I KNIW THEY ARE GOOD DRUMS IVE PLAYED THEM AND I BOUGHT THE BONGO CUZ ITS A DAMN GOOD ONE, BUT WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THOSE IN PARTICULAR?
Heyyy sorry for the late reply... Well I've always been a fan of two things.. Giovanni Hidalgo and Ash wood congas haha... The sound is so distinct... at the time I wasn't so into any other drum "company" you should say... I was familiar with LP and it's what I knew at the time... But I've played on various congas made from Ash from different companies and man there's just a tone that it gives that leaves me wanting that sound.
A Percussion Life I hear you man. Ash is def a great drum wood!! I absolutely love my gio bongos. I've played the GEo ash congas and they really are great drums! Good stuff bruddah. Love your vids. Keep em coming.
I have been doing this but its good that you explained it really well Maestro Eric.. I wish you meet you personally so that we can talk a lot of congas over a bottle of beer or coffee ahahah! 🫡

Yes Anga was the MAN! And my fingers were skinny, but then I started to play more and they got thicker... Helped me project more with my speed.

Thank you very much . You seem to be a "human" player so maybe for us it is possible to learn what you're doing. Greetings from Italy

Very usefull. Thanks again!!

Eric you are the next Giovanni.

Five ( stars McCain )🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠.really Good
.
Can I use this exercise on bongos to develop bounce or not?🤔🙄
You can maybe more on the "hembra" or the bigger bongo... but what I would recommend is being more focused on your fingers bouncing that way.
😊😊😊
I have been doing this but its good that you explained it really well Maestro Eric.. I wish you meet you personally so that we can talk a lot of congas over a bottle of beer or coffee ahahah! 🫡
