    Just an FYI, Maui Moisture was the first brand I used when I started my curly girl journey. I thought it was Amazing and bought several of their products. I was so happy with the results as my hair was conditioned and shiny and soft and it gave me ample curls. Fast forward a month or so and my head started itching. Fast forward another month and my head was itching so bad I couldn’t stand it and I couldn’t figure out why. Then one day I came across a girl reviewing the brand and said she loved it at first then her scalp started itching so bad she couldn’t stand it, just like myself. She said she looked up the ingredients and one of them was a derivative of formaldehyde that a lot of people are actually allergic to so she immediately stopped using it and the itchiness went away. So as much as I hated to I started using something different and low and behold the itchiness went away for me as well. I took all $70 worth of products back and got my money back. I was so sad because it worked so far the best on my hair out of all the brands I’ve used to date, but not so much for my scalp. 😢

    • @NgocNguyen-zi9ou

      Which ingredients that causing your itchiness? I had the same issue with the Shea Moisture (the specific one: Jamaica black castor oil) after finishing a few bottles of it. I'm switching to Maui recently (the purple one that is used for damaged hair) and I noticed some differences. My itchiness slightly goes away and my hair feels more moisturized. I'm wondering which ingredient was causing the itchiness?

    That specific Maui Moisture conditioner is for fine hair, so it’s meant to not weigh down your hair whereas the Shea moisture is for thick curly hair! The Maui doesn’t provide a ton of moisture but it does give great volume!! From my experience :)

  • @atmreads
    @atmreads 4 года назад +13

    You should always add more water before adding more product, the more hydrated your hair the easier it is to detangle. And also, you should have brushed both sides for an even result.

  • @hermelabtad
    @hermelabtad 5 лет назад +44

    At 7:06 , I think the SheaMoisture side looked a little drier because you didn’t use the brush on that side. Since you used a brush on the Maui Moisture side, it clumps the curls together which makes them look more shiny, moisturized, and defined.

  • @aracelischlosser6993

    I've been trying both of these companies out for my curl journey. (going on 8 months now) I am using the Maui Moisture Agave blend, the Shea Moisture JBCO Blend, and the Coconut Hibiscus blend. In my experience, the Maui Moisture blend gives me more moisture, and more curl bounce while the JBCO blend gave me heavier moisture, and the Coconut blend is giving me a bit too much protein. My hair doesn't need any protein help, and I was hoping the Shea Moisture Coconut blend would give me really good moisture results.
    Personally, the Maui Moisture Agave blend works the best for my hair. I have the Maui Moisture Vanilla blend that I will be trying out for the first time this week. I hope I'll have really good results. Based on the price and results, I think I'm going to be a Maui Moisture customer.

    I live with my parents so use Maui because its cheap. But I absolutely LOVE Maui Moisture. Iv'e tried almost all their shampoos and conditioners. They have always left my hair juicy and soft and their products always smell like heaven. I don't even use their conditioner to detangle either, my tangles come right out when I rinse out their curl quench shampoo and it makes my hair so so silky. But their stylers aren't the best imo. If you are looking for cheap natural hair products that are silicone and sulfate free I highly recommend Maui. They have a variety of shampoos for different needs and hair types.

I got mine at walgreens, it was decent priced. this is what i use now and my curls are totally defined. they are different than before and my friends, family and coworkers have noticed. i've shared your videos with a few of my curly girl friends. For the conditioner, my hair is SUPER long so I like to apply my conditioner, then put my hair up and let it soak in while I do the rest of my shower and then the last thing I do is detangle my hair and that works really well for me. I usually have a really easy time getting it through my hair after it’s been sitting on there for awhile.

    Shea Moisture gives me product buildup galoor. Maui Moisture has been my life saver as my hair is finer and prone to oiliness because its thin on the scalp but at the same time the typical Pantene Dove and LOREAL dries it out, and the shea moisture products make me greasy. It gave me the worst reaction of life and I don't suffer from skin sensitivity at all. One of the ingredients, methylchloroisothiazolinone, is like pouring acid on your skin and hair. I know some people don't show a negative reaction to it but most should be careful. It's illegal in many countries now because of how dangerous it can be, short and long term.

    I use both Maui and Shea moisture products and I honestly think it depends on the line and also what your hair needs, I've used the coconut and hibiscus conditioner for Shea moisture for a while but I've found that I actually prefer the 100% virgin coconut, it's lighter but I find that it's more moisturizing and has more slip. For Maui I use the Shea butter and I also love it, it has a great amount of slip and it's very moisturizing too, but it's way thicker. I honestly think it depends on the day and what my hair needs. If I want a more lightweight conditioner I go for the Shea moisture but if I feel like my hair needs a bit more moisture, then I grab the Maui moisture.

    I don't know if I have just a funky mix of hair. Or just bad luck when I tried other versions of both Maui and sheamoisture shampoos and conditioners. But personally speaking the Maui sucked so much life out of my hair and even gave me burning itchiness over my scalp. And it took like 3 days or so to get moisture back into my hair after one wash. The sheamoisture left my hair dry too and I seemed to shed more hair after use. So far only thing of theirs I seem to be able to use is the high porosity moisture masque and even still I'm keeping a bit of a side eye on it.
