- Join Danny & Taylor as they give you a POV ride down Labadee's Dragon Tail Coaster. This alpine coaster was designed by Wiegand, a German coaster manufacturer, and uses the beautiful terrain of the mountains to provide both stunning views and exhilarating thrills. The only way to experience this ride is to choose an itinerary that visits Labadee on one of Royal Caribbeans many cruise ships.

TAYLOR'S COASTER BREAKDOWN
As the resident coaster nerd here at Harr Travel I feel the need to explain the ride experience on the Dragon Tail Coaster. If you haven't ridden an alpine coaster before, these are incredibly unique experiences. You can ride as a single rider, or double rider so it is great for families with smaller kids as well. However, only the "driver" has control over the speed. This is another reason these style of rides from Wiegand are such fantastic family options.
Because of the speed control thrill seeking teenagers (or people like myself) that want to go NO BRAKES, or a family who just wants a scenic ride at a slower pace can have a great time on the Dragon's Tail.
The German manufacturer Wiegand is the premier creator of alpine coasters. In fact their Gen 1 coaster model has over 274 custom layouts spread all over the globe. However, I would argue this has one of the most scenic layouts.
Dragon's Tail Coaster has also received some major upgrades in recent years, from braking, track work, and updated cars. The braking system mentioned earlier has been modernized and still uses the basic friction braking in the center of the track. The updates include electronic braking that keep cars a safe distance apart, and specific speed zones on sections of track that might be too intense or harsh at full speed. Track maintenance on this ride is constant, and you can really tell with how smooth it runs.
The layout features multiple downward helix elements turning both to the left and right, all with great laterals if you choose the no brake option. As you traverse underneath the lift hill and across the mountain there are also some great slalom sections that can provide some great laterals, and even some little pops of airtime. Heading into the third downward helix there is a great little drop that can give a little ejector airtime as well. The second half of the ride is where it really picks up a lot of speed. And right before the final downward helix you can reach top speed with a quick right that can absolutely toss you out of your seat (you have seatbelts don't worry) and send you right into that last lateral filled left hand turn. Of course you can control your speed at any time, and the subtle banking on the turns make a slower ride really comfortable.
For an alpine coaster from Wiegand this ranks really high up on my list. The combination of views, forces, and creative elements create a very re-ridable experience.
One final tip, if you want to go full NO BRAKE I would highly suggest stopping at top right after the lift hill where the brakes get activated. You won't have as much speed going into that first helix, but you can guarantee that you will not catch anyone.
I hope you enjoyed this full break down of the Dragon's Tail Coaster from the coaster nerd here at Harr Travel. If you got through the full description and are still reading, let me know if you enjoyed this type of breakdown and I will try my best to do more coasters reviews in the future.
Cheers,
Taylor
The commentary made me realise you guys could do a cool podcast on Cruise news and stuff
We have done lots of cruise news in the past, but it is hard to fit it in and do all of the filming we do for other features. - Taylor
Danny and Taylor on the rails! Thanks for sharing!
Or perhaps "off the rails" hahahahaha we were hauling! Even alone with no brakes I couldn't match the speed of this first ride. - Taylor
Oh my God, that looks so fun!! Great video
It was a blast! A bit scary trying to hold the camera with one hand, but I got the shot which is what matters! - Taylor
I went on this once and it was so fun
Going next year plan on doing this.
You will love it!!!
Thank you for showing us how much fun the Dragon's Tail Coaster was. However, just wondering why you did not show the whole island?
WOW SO BEAUTIFUL♥️👍🇭🇹😁
FUN!! I didn’t know they had that there
It's a really great option!
Also can you do this and also the Zip line?
can you slow the speed, or you have no choice but to go fast? altho i did hear you mention brakes!
Been waiting 5 years to do The Tail again. Going next March 17 out of Miami on the Oasis. Anybody else going that week ?
i'm going on Oasis Nov 19
Don't drink all the booze. We are going the following week@@bellasavastano
Love your videos
Thank you so much, this one was a "don't try this at home style video" 🤣 - Taylor
Does it have any big drops…?
How bad is the speed. I dont have a huge nerve haha!
First video where I didn't say I wish I could do that.
Hahahaha, comment winner.
Is this coaster a newer amenity on Labadee? Don’t remember it being there in 2019 when we visited on a Celebrity cruise.
The coaster has been there since 2009 according to rcdb, and I believe that is correct. It is a little hidden at the corner of adrenaline beach, so if you didn't know it was there you might not notice it.
Been there for many years
is this a one time ride or can you go multiple times?
You can go more than once you have to buy tickets for it though
They used to have the choice of one or unlimited for $40 @@marieg3865
@3:28 did something break?
Hahaha, we caught someone because we went so fast so I used the other POV to show more of the ending.
Can a 10 year old do this?
What a horrible job you have Danny. I feel so bad for you...
Well you know, we have to show off what's available by trying it ourselves.
Hey Danny and Taylor. Omg. This is different. You guys in action today. 🎢 I hope you go fast. Taylor is good. How is he staying so quiet? 😂 Amazing. Thanks so much for sharing that and see you next video.
I was focused on holding on for dear life with only one hand, while holding the entire camera rig in the other :D - Taylor
