It's not just you. Far too many don't care about others and what they are doing. I was sat at Castlerigg Stone Circle for a good hour or so creating a multi row panorama. For another photographer to plonk the tripod right in the middle of the stone circle and to make things even better they we're just taking photos of the surrounding fells with a 200mm lens. I always try to keep myself out of the way so others can still get in the space if needed.
That really is frustrating, I bet he ended up in that one shot about 5 times then haha. And yeah, really didn’t need to stand there if he was just picking out shots at 200mm. Hope you managed to get the shot though! Even if a bit of photoshop magic was required 😆
Chill!
You are not wrong to feel that way. Last time I was in Yosemite taking pictures of the Firefall. I made the effort to get there early, stake out my spot. All the other Photographers were very respectful and kept a line where no-one was in the field of view of the others photos. Along come this girl with an cell phone and walks right in front of us all and stayed there even thought we asked her to move a bunch of time. She came right when the firefall was in the process and made sure she got her perfect shots.
That’s such a shame! Hopefully you still managed to get a shot, or work around it in photoshop. But it’s not the point is it, it’s just a little bit inconsiderate😔
@Thomas Haslam yes I did get a very good.shot.
The image is stunning and you are quite rightly proud of it. I think it is very modern in artistic terms bordering on cubist th colours being so beautiful!
Very cool take! Love that wonderfully textured rockwall!! Welcome to my youtube stream! Looking forward to see more. Cheers, Max
It’s lovely isn’t it! Feel like that tree really anchors it all together. Thanks so much!
People need to be aware of others, especially when you were there first. Best not to get too upset or things could get ugly. He probably was a beginner who had no concept of what a pain he was. No matter your image was great.
Absolutely, and I’m glad I just packed up and moved on. I hope he managed to get a good image from the morning too!
Hi Thomas, i've just found your channel, great content buddy, you've got yourself another subscriber. My passion is wildlife photography and sometimes I come across similar situations, I often walk away because the moments lost. Glad it turned out good for you, love the image, keep up the great work.
Thanks for the comment my friend! Really appreciate the support. A few people have mentioned about wildlife in this situation, I can imagine the frustration!
Great video! I have to agree the image of the tree is absolutely mesmerizing.
Thanks so much! I’m really fond of that image. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍👍
There are definitely benefits to being willing to change your plans. Things don't always go how we thought, sometimes they are much better. You definitely ended up with a great shot.
Oh absolutely! Especially in this game with the ever changing weather and other variables. Thank you so much for the comments and the feedback!
Geez. The least the other guy could have done was to ask if he was in your shot. OTOH, you could have politely said, "Excuse me, you're in my shot." Maybe that's the senior citizen New Yorker in me. 😉 Glad it worked out in the end.
No, you’re absolutely right! I just didn’t know that it was my place to ask, I got there first, but I don’t own it! It all worked out for me in the end anyway so I came home happy, and hopefully that other dude did too!
I always ask the other photographer if I'm out of the shot after saying hello. On the other hand I'm not shy in asking them to move out of the way. Mostly I try and keep away from popular view points.
Great stot Tom. The one thing that annoys me more than any other, the sheer ignorance of some people is just so unbelievable that it almost make some of us wish we had taken up boxing to go along with our photography.
Thanks! And yeah I mean it’s not just in photography is it, I don’t know why it still surprises me, we’re surrounded by ignorance daily!
@@thomashaslamphotography Yep, just something we have to work around and persevere with!
Beautiful location turned into a gorgeous image. Bravo
Thank you so much!
Just found your channel! I think the observation of the "selfish photographer" will resonate with many! excellent image at the end.... looking forward to seeing more of your adventures!
Thank you so much! Truly appreciated, and yes I think it’s a common occurrence!
Cracking final shot. As much as I love watching photography vloggers it seems rather odd to me that they would be surprised that others might want to try their hand at the same locations. Mind you they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Thanks! I try to familiarise myself with the popular spots in an area and skirt around them, but when the lights that good it’s hard to ignore the voice in your head haha.
Hi Thomas, I've found this so many times with photography, what you sometimes plan to photograph doesn't quite pan out ( for many reasons, weather, light etc ). This forces you to 'think outside the box' like you did here and can lead to something more creative than you anticipated. Feels good, especially when you come up with a beautiful image like you did here. Great video
Absolutely, whenever it’s happened to me it’s almost always worked out for the best. And even if not, the process of looking more deeply at the landscape is enjoyable in itself.
Thank you so much for the comment and the feedback, much appreciated 👍
Don't you hate it when you go out into public and the public has the nerve to show up :) Great video and great images you came away with. New to your channel, looking forward to many more videos!
I know mate it’s completely inappropriate.😂
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video/images. Really appreciate the feedback and I’ll be sure to get out soon to complain about something else!
The final picture is very nice. As far as other photographers go, I feel that attitude is quite common. It has happened to me quite a few times, sometimes after a drive of 100 miles or more and to be honest it has almost comes to blows a few times as I think its downright rude and selfish to just go stand in front of somebody like that.
It’s not the first time I’ve been victim to it either. Happened at glenfinnan viaduct up in the highlands just as a steam train rolled round that bridge. But then again, that’s what you get for photographing such a popular place, as I learned once again here 😂
And a stunning photograph it is.
Thank you so much!! I’m really fond of it.
Thanks for sharing, at the end of the day you ended up having a much better image.
Thank you so much, I definitely came away happy!
First time on your channel! I’m impressed! Thanks for taking me along!!!
And thank you for joining me! Really appreciate it 👍👍
Your channel just popped up on my feed and really enjoyed your video. Was great to see you capture that final image, certainly have every right to very pleased with it...subbed too
Thank you endlessly! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍👍
Right on! Great image.
Thank you so much! 👍
Like you say, he did you a favour… despite being a bit of a knob. That quarry shot is much more interesting than just another view from Stanage Edge 👏
Thanks, Dave! And yeah, fully agreed!
not gonna lie... pressed on it thinking it was thomas heaton... but glad i did. Great video mate
Haha you’re not the first to say it! Glad you enjoyed it👍
Hi Thomas, just found your chanel and subscribed. Really enjoyed this video as I know the locations well, but must admit to not noticing 'your' tree before. You've given me the idea for my own version of it, thanks!
Thanks so much! And yeah, hope your idea works out and gives you a nice image! Lovely part of the world to spend time with a camera 👍👍
Wow Thomas. Stunning Image!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
Good lesson. Awesome image.
Thanks so much 👍
That's a lovely image!
Thank you so much! 👍
Gorgeous photograph, deep and reflective, yet so subtle and very nice edit.
"Never look a gift horse in the mouth" you were rewarded later by the earlier inconvenience.😉😉 well done and nice video
Thank you endlessly! And yes, I agree, it was the best thing that could have happened that morning.
I was up at the Dragon's Back a month ago. 5 other guys there and then one gets out a drone to shoot his youtube video and stands on the ridge obstructing compositions as he was talking to his vlogging camera. Cheers mate! Got up at 4am and drove 2 hours to hear a bleeding drone and someone waffling infront of a camera all morning!! If it was me and he was in my shot I'd have just told him to kindly step out of it. Nothing to lose by asking, except for your shot which you are entitled to as you were there first, imho.
I’m new to the game of making these videos. But I’m trying my best to keep out of people’s way when I’m doing the pieces to camera, mostly because I feel uncomfortable infront of camera as it is, let alone near other people haha. But yeah, that sounds a little unnecessary, and really frustrating for yourself.
Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
You make me really appreciate our desolate dramatic beaches. I can be in unbelievable beauty by myself and my camera with a 10 minute walk from home. Feeling THANKFUL
Occasionally another tripod will show up but it results in friendly tips about nearby locations and where the good local pubs are.
Well I’m incredibly envious of that! I actually wouldn’t mind people getting in my shot if they rewarded me with good pub recommendations 😂
Well done. The resultant image has the quality of an Eliot Porter image.
Thank you, that’s a real compliment 👍
We feel your pain 😅 our stannage edge video there was no escaping people on that, glad you managed to get away to a quiet spot 👍
It’s a tourist trap for sure, but I fully understand because it’s a lovely spot to watch the sun rise!
This has happened to me on numerous occasions. I don’t mind chatting to other photographers but when they set up and obscure your shot it’s just ignorant. I just kindly ask them to move as they are in my shot. Most of the time it’s just their own ignorance and in their quest to get their shot they forget about others around them. Luckily for you it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Yeah and that was hopefully the case here! But as you say. It worked out for me in the end. Thanks for watching and for the support!
I would have been pissed off but good on you to seeing the positives.
Thank you! And yeah, always got to try and just rise above!
Totally with you on this 👍
Good to hear I’m not just being unreasonable haha!
Hi Thomas, you popped up in my feed - the image of the 'Defying The Odds' tree is superb. I'm so pleased you moved on to much better things. I'm subscribing. Thank you.
Thank you so much for commenting/watching/subscribing. That means the world!
Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad I pushed on too. 🙂
Really great video, this kind of thing often happens in the wildlife world too. I'm glad that on this occasion it worked out better for you.
I’ve had a couple comments about it happening in the wildlife world. Must be a nightmare! Thanks so much 👍👍
Really enjoy your video style, new sub here! Hate photographers like the one you encountered. Absolute bell ends! Looking forward to following your future adventures.
Hey thanks so much! Not really sure what my ‘style’ is haha but glad you’re enjoying it!!
@@thomashaslamphotography just the overall presentation, mix of b roll/talking etc, really well done 👍
Just came across your channel and let me just say what amazing content you already have! The flow and story and payoff of your videos is simply gorgeous. Keep this workflow! Hopefully I can follow your footsteps soon! :)
Thank you SO much for the kind words! Really glad that it’s enjoyable for you to watch. Got lots more planned and comments like this are really encouraging. So yeah, thanks, and best of luck for your own journey, stay creative!
@@thomashaslamphotography keep it coming brother :)
You have a new subscriber my friend! As soon as you mentioned you were in the Peak District my ears pricked up! I'm from Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, so the Peak District isn't a million miles away from my home. By the way, it isn't just you.. I'd be a tad 'miffed' if someone had done that to me too!
You’re not too far from me then! I spend a lot of time around Sherwood Forest and the old pit sites etc, so I’ll definitely be putting out more videos from those places as well. Thanks so much for the support!
@@thomashaslamphotography Sherwood Forest is one of my favourite places on the planet. Unfortunately it still isn't somewhere I manage to get to that often. I'm disabled and can't drive, so I'm completely reliant on my wife to take me to places, and unfortunately her health isn't great either. I do however spend a lot of time in Sherwood Pit Tip because it's literally just around the corner from me. I know it like the back of my hand.
Well although you don’t manage to get out as often as you’d like. It’s nice to hear that you can find beauty in your local spots, and that is so important. A trip of a lifetime is wasted on a man if he cannot also appreciate the smaller details. Stay creative mate!
Used to climb on both those crags the second image at Lawrencefield is beautiful
Great spots to climb! And thank you for the compliment 👍
wow, the face in the wall was amazing. Jesus bless you!
Thank you so much!
The best way to deal with this is find a place without tripod holes. :) Good to see you came to the same conclusion. Good man. I always check Joe Cornish's work before leaving. If the local master has done it, it is difficult to beat. I understand the frustration though.
That’s a good shout actually. I feel like I work better when I’m forced to find images for myself anyway, and so I’ll probably try and avoid the “viewpoints” from now on anyway. It’s hard though, isn’t it, when you know you can guarantee and good composition from the more obvious places!
Great image! That pushy git did you a big favour 😊
Haha, thank you. I like to believe he was just oblivious rather than pushy, but the result is the same! Hopefully he got a nice image from the morning 👍
Your alot more chilled out then me mate I would off told him straight mate not be rude but polite way off piss off lol iv been here first stunning photography it's not easy getting that perfect picture mate I know my self the peak District is beautiful this time off year love your videos buddy 👍 👍😜
Thanks so much mate. And yeah, I just try and move on whenever it happens, time spent arguing is less time spent taking images. And I don’t get a lot of that time so I try to use it productively haha.
But yeah, quite frustrating about getting up at 4am and walking up there in pitch black freezing cold!
Anyway, thanks for the comment and for the compliment 👍👍
Hi Thomas... I like your quiet narration style.... and your photos. Subscribed. PS: that tree shot at the end is awesome.
Thanks so much for the feedback and commenting! Yeah I’m pretty laid back about it all, I don’t get much peace and quiet so I like to indulge in it where I can!
Thanks again👍
Glad I could be of assistance 😊
Kidding aside, that is a beautiful shot. 9:12 also seems to have great potential in the right conditions
Ha! Thank you mate.
Yeah that whole area is lovely but it really needs the mist to make it work, for me at least that is. 👍
Beautiful shot !!
Thank you, Joseph!
Lovely image and a great video. Subbed.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the support 👍👍
Hey Thomas, really really enjoyed your videos mate. I do really hope to see more of your work and vids, honestly, really enjoyable! Thank you!
Thank you so much my friend! There will definitely be more to follow. 🙂
As a wildlife photographer in the Netherlands, there is nowhere to go where there aren't any humans. I often find myself getting up really early, setting up my gear in the hopes of shooting roedeer. But more often then not people spot me before they spot the deer and call out or walk up to me. People are my biggest challenge out here. I've yet to find a way to cope with it appart from luck
Oh that must be really frustrating! Someone getting in your shot is one thing, but scaring away the subject, and any potential for an image for the next hour or more must be a real annoyance!
Sounds like a nightmare
Just stumbled across your video and really liked it so subscribed. Quite something coming from another photographer.
Hope to see many other videos from you. Nice shot! Take care
Thank you so much, truly appreciated!
Hi Thomas, Happy New Year. I'm new to your channel. My wife and I live in Sheffield and we used to visit Stanage Edge a lot, but it just got too busy and we stopped going. Higger Tor is about the same most times. We've been going back to Longshaw and we've had some good photography there, but again it gets busy and it's been difficult at times to find some quiet to compose an image. I did have an experience when setting up a shot and a parent and their children came in front of my shot and just stayed there. The parent did give glances up to where I was set up but just stood there with the children. I didn't say anything and eventually I moved on without getting the shot. In such situations, sadly you can't say anything because it's a public space, but it doesn't make it any easier when you have to just walk away. I'm sorry you had that experience with another photographer. So far any photographer I've met we stop and have a bit of a chinwag and then we go our separate ways. I tend to try and stay away from areas that I know are popular with walkers and photographers and the bonus is that my wife and the exploration is fun and we've found a out of the way places which are often lovely and quiet and the photography is superb. Happy photography Thomas.
Oh absolutely, 95% of people are incredibly respectful. Not just other photographers but walkers, climbers, runners. It’s a nice outdoor community in these parts!
But yeah, I’m going to avoid the honey pot locations for a while!
I’ve got a handful of places that I know I can find solitude which is nice!
Thanks you so much for taking the time to write that comment and for watching the video! 👍
No good getting frustrated, it happens all the time. Just move on or wait till the nuisance has moved on, then take your shot. Not easy advice to follow though when you have put such effort in. Crackin’ last shot!
Absolutely. And I wouldn’t mind sitting and soaking in the landscape while I wait, but the morning light is fleeting, and in time sensitive conditions like that I thought it best to just crack in with my day, and I’m glad I did! Thank you for the feedback by the way! 👍
Lovely informative video of two places I have visited on several occasions. Stanage Edge is always crowded, partly due to the relative proximity of car parking. At Bole Hill / Quarry it is just the opposite, very rarely see anyone. What I find particularly galling about the incident is that he was a photographer who should know better and not a visitor on a day walk etc just taking a quick mobile phone shot.😁
That was my finding too regarding the photographer. But still, it was a positive result in the end. I hope that he got a shot worth keeping so that we all went home happy. But I was quite miffed about it all in honesty!
Thank you for the comment and the kind words! 👍
Great photos 👌📷 I've just stumbled up on your video, well done for keeping your self respect with the intruder lol. I'll be looking back through your other videos now 👍
Thanks so much for the comment and the positive feedback! And yes, my sole purpose when I go out is to just be creative and spend time with my camera and the landscape, ain’t got time to start arguments. 😂 all worked out in the end so I’m glad I moved locations! Again, thank you!
Just found your channel Thomas! Really enjoyed the video and look forward to more great content! And love those photos! It always helps to adapt to the situation... not always easy but it worked out for you for sure! Thanks again for the video!
Thank you so much for the comment and for watching! Got a lot more planned so hopefully you’ll be able to find some entertainment in them as time goes on. Thanks for the compliment 👍
I suppose good intuition of the depth of composition enables something different to be seen. In this case, the obvious shot let to greater reward....clearly demonstrated by you here! 🙂
I always find humans get in the way, but I guess i also get in their way accidentally. I've found a way of mitigating this somethings is the use of long exposures, but much reliant on people moving around. I used this technique at Malham Cover on a busy day with much success, with only the ones sitting for lunch really affecting some composures'. I guess sharing is caring.
It’s a great technique. And has worked for me in cityscapes or when footpaths cross the composition.. but as you say it relies on movement. I think in this instance I would have ended up with 5 or 6 photographer shaped ghosts in my composition haha. Thanks for the support! 👍
@@thomashaslamphotography No Worries and keep up the good work!
Loved both those images Thomas, second one I agree is a cracker. Glad I've found your channel, good to see someone who shoots in my neck of the woods instead of the Lakes or the Highlands. All the best Russ
Don’t get me wrong those places are incredible! But similar to you I’m local to the peaks so it’s been amazing to explore and learn all about it over the years. Thanks for the comment!
Just found you, the next Thomas Heaton methinks
Haha well the name isn’t far off! I was waiting for someone to mention that. If I could do half a good job as him I’d be blessed!
Hi Thomas new to your youtube channel, love the vid! If it's not other photographers it's the general public that will just walk right in front of you lol. This is because since thd pandemic there has been a huge rise in people seeking creativity or nature. Like you said, etiquette was missing there (esp since he be friended you). You should have been going to these places in 2005/07 it was bliss. Barely a soul in sight and no litter or hills being set a light...people unfortunatley ruin nature...sorry but there it is
The Hank’s for taking the time to comment. Yes, I’m finding that now than ever people are looking for more from their lives, and if getting out in the great outdoors is how they achieve it then that’s great, but like you say, it comes at a cost. There is signage everywhere, litter even more so. I recall going on walks with my dad growing up and everywhere was so peaceful and EVERYONE said hello. It’s just a case of education, but then again, some people are just going to behave that way no matter what!
Thank fully I have never had that experience. Photographers that I come across seem to have good mutual respect and tend to stand side by side and not in front of others. You had bad luck that morning bumping into the village idiot. The shot of the quarry is a great shot.
Thank you so much. I agree 95% are really aware and make sure to work alongside others. But I’m really happy with the second image so I don’t mind too much 👍
There are some proper bell ends about😂
Great video Thomas, new subscriber here👊🏻
Brilliant comment haha. Thank you mate! Really appreciate that 👍👍
Great last image and super video and editing skills. Subscribed 👍
Thanks so much for the support and the comment! Truly appreciate it. 👍
Reminds me of a time when I was laying at a river bank photographing water birds when someone on a kayak paddles up to them, when the birds took flight he was out with his camera taking pictures of them flying away. I don't like being interrupted at mealtime so I try not to interrupt the wildlife. Hope the guy who photo bombed you see this and comes to his senses. You did well. 👍
Absolutely! And that’s just it. So important to respect not only one another but the wildlife and the landscape as well!
Just stumbled across your channel , nice content fella , i dont stress anymore about other photographers in the “honeypot” places but still would find it annoying 😂, looking forward to seeing more of your journeys
Thank you mate! Much appreciated. And yeah, I guess I walked right into that situation haha. Just confirmed what I already knew. But glad I decided to move on! Thanks for taking the time to comment my friend!
its hard when your at a place when others turn up, i had it worse than that before haha.. and i am sure i have done it to others haha nice little reflection could i ask where it was?
Oh 100%. But it’s just about being considerate and working so that everyone can get the shot. As hard as that may be in fleeting light! But yeah, again, it’s a busy spot and I’ll probably just give it a wide birth in future, or go when it’s chucking it down. 👍
I have shared your channel dude on my FB, i think your going to be quite good..
Thank you, endlessly. Gestures like that mean a lot and truly help to kick things off! Very kind!
Stumbled across the video in my RUclips recommendations. A brief glance at your name, mistook it for Thomas Heaton. Sorry.
Given the algorithms tend to push clickbaity titles I was a bit sceptical, however seeing what happened, it's quite accurate, and certainly impolite of him.
Never any harm or effort in asking, "Will I be in the way if I stand..." and specify where.
Great images. The first has quite an abstract appearance with the colours and shapes. While the quarry tree is sublime, feels otherworldly with the greys, rusty reds and dark water. There's a quarry near me with a silver birch that's similar, but still haven't had that in the right conditions.
Glad I watched. Hope to see more in the future. Subscribed 👍
Thank you so much for the watching and commenting. I guess its bound to happen as our names are so similar! You’re not the first to say it haha. I’ve actually been watching his content since his very first video. A big influence on my own work!
And thank you for sticking around to watch, and for the feedback. Truly appreciate it!
I hope the guy sees this video. Haha. Awesome photo. I hope to nvr be “that guy”. But when concentrating on the shots i get lost in it and forget about those around me, unintentionally, and hopefully nvr have ruined something for them.
We’ve probably all been guilty when we get lost in the moment. It’s just about self awareness and being polite the rest of the time!
I don't really do much landscape, but I always make sure to treat others the way I'd expect to be treated,by staying out of the way and finding a different spot if someone else was in that location before me.
Absolutely, and I’ve found that most photographers can get along harmoniously! Thank you for watching as well! 👍
Thats a beautiful image.
Thank you so much! I’m really fond of it.
Now you need to tell us where that spot is so me plus 100 other photographers can elbow each other out the way to get the shot! or better still I need to think outside of the box and find my own secluded masterpiece.
And that is precisely why I didn’t disclose where I was haha. But you’re right, blithe act of finding your own composition and bringing it together in an image is much more rewarding! Thank you so much for watching👍
Gosh if he'd tried that at natural bridges he probably been thrown off, mind you if he'd done that to me I would have said something with OFF at the end ! Love the tree on the rock shot.
Haha I decided to laugh it off in the end or I would have felt that way too. Just going to avoid it he hot spots where possible from now on! And thank you for the comment! I’m quite fond of that second shot I must admit.
Just discovered your channel. Really enjoyed it. That last image was amazing just wondering if it works upside down
Thank you so much! I did wonder the same myself but when I had a look it didn’t really work for my own taste. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment 👍👍
If I’m there first and someone gets in my shot I tell them to move. People need to be told that their behavior is rude. I’ve also had people ask me to move even though I was their first and had been there for hours. I always tell them no, I was there first and found “the spot” and they are being rude to ask me to move.
Can’t say fairer than that!
Had something similar a few years back at the Burnham on sea lighthouse… I’d been there for a few hours before sunset, in my spot… some bloke rocked up 10 mins before sunset and stood 20m behind me and started shouting at me to move as I was in his shot….. ended up telling him where to stick his tripod….
Okay that’s next level haha. Unfortunately they walk among us. It’s all about give and take!
Nicely said Mr, your so right about eticate, he so broke the un written rule in landscape photography your right to be annoyed, I certainly would have been 👍🏻
It is just that isn’t it. An unwritten rule. Still, it led to an image that I’m really pleased with so I came home happy. 👍
Thank you!
And thank you for watching 👍
Nicely Reflective review, and you second location is one of my favorites, regular locations . I find the simple way of dealing with these people is to ask them if its ok for me to stand in their image, they normally say no, then I ask them, why the hell are you standing in mine then, I was here long before you. They normally take the hint . There are too many inconsiderate people who arrive late for the cliched locations. The vast majority of people are respectful and look to see who is there and act accordingly. My simple way to avoid this, is not to shoot there in there first place.
It’s a brilliant spot isn’t it. And yeah, that’s good logic haha. I’ll give that a go next time. 😂
Thanks for the compliment and watching the video!
I’ll be honest - I glanced at the video and thought it said ‘Heaton’!!! Maybe every northern landscape photographer has to be called Thomas, have a surname starting ‘H’ and have a beard? 😂. Great video though - subscribed.
You’re not the first to say it, and you definitely won’t be the last haha. Thanks for the support!! 👍
Would you be able to tell me where this quarry is? I'm not far from the area and would love to take my camera there at some point. Beautiful photo
It’s not too far from Surprise view Car park. Have a look at the OS map and you’ll spot it. 👍👍 sorry if that sounds vague, just makes it more rewarding when you stumble across it. 🙂
@@thomashaslamphotography found it. Nice one 👍

I do mate yeah! I’m going to update my socials and that when I get a chance, but for now my insta handle is @thomas_haslam_
And thank you so much for the comment and the feedback, truly appreciate it!
Nice video Thomas. Unfortunately, there are a lot of selfish people about with absolutely no self awareness. I’ve only recently taken up photography, so it’s been a bit of an eye opener for me that the popular locations are just like that! I imagine that the harder the hike to get to the location, the more solitude you are likely to get?
That’s largely the case, yeah. But we’re all busy and it’s not always easy to find time to get those big hikes in! Which is why these places get so busy.
It’s not the only way to find peace and quiet, I’ve had some success just by dropping a pin on the map and going and exploring. It’s all a case of trial and error. You’ll soon find your niche with photography and you’ll be able to start scoping out places that you think may work for you. 👍👍👍
Hey man, i wonder if that guy watches this video sometime and understand he broke the photographers etiquette.
Hopefully! I guess I could have had the conversation with him, but ultimately it’s my fault for going to one of the most popular sunrise spots in the Peaks!
Great technique and lovely results. I struggle with carrying bulky gear these days and hate tripods in particular, but have a serious question. Do you always carry a tripod around? There is a lot to be said for taking your time, but for me, unless the light is awful I'd rather put my trust in fairly steady hands and image stabilisation. Apart from anything else, it saves a great deal of time that I feel could usually be better spent finding the next location or perspective. Perhaps I'm simply lazy and not dedicated enough. But it just seems to me that if you choose to normally work without a tripod, there are very few occasions when you miss not having one. Anyway, excellent video and keep up the good work.
This is a GREAT question and something I’m planning to address in a later video. For me, using a tripod is 99% about just slowing down, and getting my composition dialled in just right. But also, I’m the kind of person who prefers to take less images, but spend more time composing and waiting for the light etc.
there are of course times when a tripod is needed for long exposures etc. I also often use ND grads and polarisers, which is quite tricky hand held. They’re another point of contention amongst photographers haha.
But anyway, it’s mostly a creative aid for me. But there are times when I’ll shoot handheld and I quite honestly enjoy both disciplines. Thank you so much for commenting and raising a great point!
@@thomashaslamphotography Thank you for replying and not being offended. I can see that filters would make a big difference and to be honest I made the mistake of buying individual filters for virtually every lens I own instead of investing into the kind of interchangeable system you have. But I perhaps should have stressed a bit more than no criticism was intended or should be inferred. The real problem is my back, which plays up after an hour spent with almost any of my camera/lens combinations. Regards, Michael.
The price of the Lee system is certainly a turn off, but once invested, you’ll never buy filters again. Unless you’re like me and smash them from time to time haha. Happened day 1 of a week long trip in the highlands. Gutted.
Anyway, questions always welcome here, and I really appreciate the comment! My back already suffers and I’m only in my early 30’s. I’ve got no chance, but we do what we can. 🙂
What lens did you use for that first shot? Thanks!
It’s the sigma 24-70 f2.8 art. My favourite landscape lens!
What happened to you has now become a ' pandemic ' wherever there is a photograph to be made here in the UK. Its a small place with a lot of ' photographers ' . On the bright side, you got your photo in the end. These days, I stay very close to home. Atleast I know I have it to myself.
I’ve had this thought before. The uk is a relatively small place, and a lot of photographers aim for peaks, lakes, wales or Scotland. Those place all have their own hot spots and so it just results in overcrowded viewpoints. It’s not too bad in Scotland though, unless you’re shooting the old man of storr haha.
I live local to Sheffield and I know what you mean. I avoid places like that but to be honest I've found places off the beaten path far better than those honey pot locations. People fo to them because they are easy so make the hikes more technical and demanding, study the maps and you'll come accross some gems in the peaks away from people. ;) great last image. I've shot that myself and its a great location 👌
Oh I completely agree. Been exploring in the peaks most of my life and I’ve found some real gems over the years. I do have a soft spot for the edges though, especially Bamford. I remember when snake woodland was unheard of… that was nice.
To be honest I'm a water source kind of guy. I like to look at the maps and search out the brooks and streams and see if there are any hidden waterfalls. I've found a few really good ones over the years that ate unmapped let's say, nameless brooks and streams.
That’s great to hear, mate! I’ve found a really good spot recently that I’m meaning to try and photograph. As you say, a nameless spot that doesn’t live near any footpaths. Waterfall swallet always humours me. It’s famous for being the “hidden waterfall” in the peaks. What a concept!
@thomashaslamphotography it's a hole in the ground haha 😄
You mentioned the cold. How cold was it? IT couldn't have been that cold, none of the water was frozen.
It was around 3 degrees Celsius, with wind chill. Cold enough when you’re stood in one place for a period of time 🤷
@@thomashaslamphotography That's pretty chilly for your neck of the woods.
Anyone in the south of the UK who wants to do photography together? I am wanting to get my drones out and get some shots. Mini 2, Mavic Pro 2 and Avata. I gotta start somewhere but getting someone along for the ride with similar interests would be amazing!
Great video by the way. You are very comfortable on camera. Top quality stuff . Subbed for further content
Thank you so much for the compliment and for watching!
I don’t get down to the south as much as I’d like. But always love being in those parts when I do! 👍
New horror film: Attack of the Alpha Male Photographer.
I usually growl at people if they get to close to me.
I might adopt that tactic 😂
I might have said, "Say, mate, I came here early and set up for my shot, and I'm just waiting for the light. When it comes, can I ask you to step out of my frame?" He might have said "Sure thing." But then you wouldn't have gotten your beautiful shot.
If he had said no, you could have walked away then. Or just pitched him over the edge. "It was terrible constable. I saw him get too close to the edge, and I was about to say something, but he slipped and just went over."
Haha I like the chain of thought here! But ultimately I’m glad I came away. You’re right though, I just never know if I have the right to ask another to shift, it’s not my land after all. But yeah, all worked out in the end 👍
@bbccountryfile : give this man a job !
I wouldn’t go that far, but thank you haha 😆
Trouble these days mate is there's too many selfish entitled ***** about. This kind of thing has happened to me a few times. And seldom by people who truly appreciate the art, and therapy, of what we do and as you say, we go to all that effort for a reason, and for me it's not just to get the photo - it's for the peace and quiet! These days it's usually ruined by someone wearing inappropriate mountain wear whilst trying to capture any old garbage for their Instagrams. Drives me nuts. Bring back the 00's, when the Peak District only had serious hikers, serious dog walkers, fell runners, and serious photographers in winter. I sound old. Maybe I am now.
I’ve experienced those days in the peaks. I just never appreciated them when I was younger. I believe there is still solitude to be found, but never in a spot where you’ll get a nice view. And yeah, it’s just a big show for Instagram a lot of the time. £400 arcteryx jackets on a summers day, you know the type 👍
You must be a Kurt Vonnegut fan (your use of the asterisks).
Yeah, there are always those who don't have a clue about respect for those already in place to get a great shot. Too bad there is not a system to report these individuals and after so many reports, their cameras are disabled for some amount of time. That would teach the buggers.
I like the thought you’ve put in to such a system haha. Love it 😂
So annoying! I´ve had similar things happen both in landscape photography and when trying to capture wild animals. All of a sudden some dude and his dog walk right past me and scare away the animal. Thanks...
I’ve had a couple people mention about wildlife photography. I bet that’s frustrating. It’s hard because we all have a right to enjoy the outdoors, but when you go to great lengths to get these images, it’s can be hard not to feel hard done by! 😂
I was on a whale watching boat for which I bought a ticket. I stood at the railing waiting for a sighting. All of a sudden a whale was approaching and this woman forced her way between me and the railing pushing me out of the way and getting her shot. I was dumbfounded at her rudeness.
Okay that is next level. Should have helped her get a little bit closer and given her a hand off the side of the boat. 😂
Hope you still managed to get some good shots!
You do get a few entitled odd blokes out taking it too seriously with the ‘every man for himself’ mentality, I think it’s often the type who rock up to take ‘the shot’ at popular locations and why I try as much as possible. Making conversation does make it harder for them to be a bellend but didn’t work in this case. 😆 Glad you come away with a great image.
I’ve seen it so many times. This guy wasn’t unpleasant, perhaps just a bit clueless, I don’t really know. Like he wasn’t outwardly rude, just inconsiderate. Either way, it made more sense to just move on and I’m glad I did. Thanks for commenting and for the kind words 👍
