hey Austin - in the past when putting the expanded metal grills i make die out of 1" MDF of the grill opening. When you press the negative blank throught the MDF opening - it puts a perfect rolled edge and makes a perfect insert for the grill opening. brings the grill a little more forward and covers all the imperfections in the modified grill
just got a 99 runna and i’ve been doing a lot of work on it and i just wanted to say after doing months of research on everything your videos have been the best quality even the description is amazing
Looks phenomenal, great progress! I’ve been wanting to do this mod to my 1997 and now I have a solid blueprint to work off from. Much respect from Alberta! 🇨🇦
I like the craftsmanship but also liked the original look of the 4Runner. Maybe with honeycomb grill and a toyota logo I would feel it more. Great work none the less.
Urethane panel bonder works great on plastic. I had gaps in places like you did when I did my Ranger grille. I glued in pieces of the plastic i cut out as a backer where you used fiberglass. The bonder also works as a sandable filler.
I would look into metal zip-ties for the attachment. UV may make the ties brittle over time. Not to big of a deal, but might save a hassle down the road. Love the update to the grill. Makes it not so dated.
Everything bout these videos absolutely stylin, just an aesthetically pleasing ass experience, what a chill and classy vibe, shit calms mah soul, AVR customs bringin tha drip👌😤
This video is pretty well timed, I'm working an a JDM CRV project and was just about to mod the grill like the Mugen style in a similar way. Love the grill, would be cool to see the old Toyota script in white or chrome but nicely done.
Nice job as always. I really feel that bumper should have a bull bar on it, nothing crazy but just one that goes with the size of the grill, then you could put a light bar on it
Watching you drill towards the radiator😳 Then noticing the sheet metal protecting the radiator!😏 I used the same mesh on my Hilux Over the intercooler!! (FJ40 OM606)
Could you also use the fiberglass bonds for the whole project? Just wondering because I’ve been planning on doing my grill on my 2nd gen 4RUNNER. Always nice to see a new video.
Super nice work.. as someone who works with epoxy a bunch on boats, I’d have done epoxy filler instead of polyester, especially as you’re covering it in epoxy primer over the top.. generally we try to avoid putting polyester over epoxy. I’m thinking to do the same on my 2004 Hilux What mesh is that you’re using?
Another awesome job mate, Iv watched a few of your videos and now bought myself the hilux surf which is the import version of the 4Runner and your videos are giving me so much good ideas to really give mines some look, keep the videos coming 👍
Grill looks good Bro. I would put the Toyota badge in the middle painted in body colour or check out the GR racing Hiluxs built for the past dakar. They have TOYOTA in chrome on similar grill as to what you built. I would love to see what you could do with a Hilux vigo like my 4.0 V6.
Are you referring to the backordered rear Bilstein 5100? I ended up ordering 00-06 Tundra rear shocks which fit the 4Runner if you swap the lower bushing out.
Looks very nice! However, the changes (bumper included) hide the make to the non-enthusiast person like me. From the front it now looks like a concept car/truck, or a partnership between manufacturers, a Dodge Fordota.
Awsome job to nice to get dirty just saying ,so much for plastic dip spray?working on 3rd gen myself .. can't stay focused do iwant it nice or do iwant to wheelit. What is th best plastic dip paint idid little on rear hatch were the license plate goes 0n a 2000 4runner. Looks ok don't no if will peel off .lots of chrome iwant black also bumper need to be replaced front an back any ways if you know of any let me if you can Iam in Washington state I think that's were your at .excellent work. You are professional. Thank for sharing your knowledge a ND skillset.
Looks great, as usual. Very clean look that complements the bumper. With my eyes it is hard to tell through a video, but will that mesh allow enough cooling air to pass through?
I have a question. The grille material you refer to in Amazon is by CCG 6"x36" Perforated SS Grill Mesh Sheet - Gloss Black. The description says it's aluminum. It costs $36 +$12 shipping. So that is $48 for a piece of punched aluminum. That is crazy. It looks like the material you used was unpainted steel. Any help here?
@@rickyschultz6357 those are not tacos those are Toyota trucks Tacoma is 1995 and on.... and yes I've seen the vids the red diesel swap is my builds inspiration
Nice work, Austin! I made one of these grills for my ‘08 Tacoma. Tons of forums out there to get some good advice/how to info. My experience was super fun and a great learning experience. Buying an aftermarket grill online to cut up while setting aside the oem one is the way to go. Keep up the great content.
Put the old school Toyota logo on that grill!! Nice work man
Thanks!!
Second the old school Toyota logo
Even the FJ cruiser grill badge
TOYOTA
Should of done the mesh a different colour

im normally not into yota trucks, but this man do his magic so good i cant stop watching these cars get done. keep up the quality work!
Thanks man!!
Excellent! Nice example of how to setup and install an iconic grill mod. Thank you Austin! 👍
No problem!
Can’t wait to see the paint correction episode 😍

Love the detail in how you explain step by step. Another great job, in addition it really looks sick man!
Fab a new rear bumper... roof rack... a few more lights... lift... tires and wheels... great little rig !
Looks phenomenal, great progress! I’ve been wanting to do this mod to my 1997 and now I have a solid blueprint to work off from. Much respect from Alberta! 🇨🇦

Properly! The look is "sobre" in french but beautiful aspect! Good job Austin 👍
Thanks!!
You are a hard working man. Congratulations

Nice ill have to try that!

Plain, simple and very classy….also well done
Nice work! I did the same on my Hilux 4 years ago! Well done brother!

i would like to see you riding your little pink jeep sometime !
Haha I try to stay off it, it’s too fast 😂
Watching you drill towards the radiator😳

I used the same mesh on my Hilux Over the intercooler!!

Haha yeah didn’t want any vent holes in the radiator lol
he really went to town with his painting
Nice job, like to do the same on my 2000 can you post a link for the mesh. Thanks
Thanks! I put a link in the description, i even found it in black!!
Definitely need to puff that paint to match the grill as it turned out great! 👍🏼
The grill looks sharp
Thanks man!
Man I been trying to find the time to do this to my Xterra and I always get impatient. You make this look so easy.
I'm bout to try this on my old 86 ! Beautiful work 👏
Your craftsmanship is on point!
Thanks!!

What mesh is that you’re using?
I just got the mesh from a local shop!
What pressure are you spraying? Different pressures for primer, base, clear? Awesome vid 👌👏
25 psi for base then up it to 28-30 for clear! Thank you!
Good job on the grill
Very good job my friend just like a professional may be better , Thank you for sharing God bless you.
Man that’s very nice!! I love it!! Can’t wait to see what u do next
Thanks a bunch!
My goodness....nothing but sicc mods. Love it!
👍👍 thanks!!
Personally, I would have Raptor-lined the grill and mesh to match the bumper, but it does look good.

Awesome custom grille Austin, this thing is looking killer!
Thanks I’m excited to get a lift on it!
@@austinniemela indeed, that's really gonna make it come together. And the rear bumper
How has the fiberglass and body filler held up over the years on that plastic? Any issues with the bodywork?
I’ve done it for years on all my grills with no issues!
Nice looking grill.
Great job and vid. Thanks Mate!
Красивая работа!
Looks great brother. Where can I find the Toyota letters for so I can do mine?
Nice job man. I like that a lot. I need to do that fir my H3. Thank care and stay safe.
A year later, I was wondering if you still have the other grille that you replaced?
Looks great Austin!
Thanks!!

Yes the bilstein rears are backordered! I did buy the 4th gen bilsteins though!
Hi,nice job there bro,
I want to know the type of paint and painting process
Hello greetings from Chile, great your work ... I hope one day you can carry out a project in a nissan terrano VG30 1995, greetings

Thanks! Yes there is plenty of air flow!
The mesh also catches every insect imaginable.
What welder do you use and is it 3 phase. But also I love your work. What a dream job from one fabricator to another
Nice job; well done.
looking sick!
When are we going to get a mod series on that sweet purple 4x4???

I know this video is old but where did you get the grill material from?
What size air tank are you using?
Yo great work bro! Where’s that front bumper from??
I built it! I sell the plans for them at www.avrcustoms.com if you are interested!
Nice work!!!
