    Four Roses and Buffalo Trace are two of my favorites, Love 1792, in fact going to do a blind later tonight between 1792 and Buffalo Trace. As for lower proof, I am loving Benchmark Top floor, it just won an 8 bottle blind tournament for me which included WT101 and Old Forester Signature.

    I will also define 'low proof' as about 90 proof or under and yeah, I wasn't gunning to make that a thing as I got into this hobby by any means. I bought, drank, and enjoyed almost as many low proofers as I have higher proof bottles now.
    But over time, I've discovered that there is a limited number of bottles that I outright enjoy under 92 proof. I'm listing them in order of descending enjoyment/score per abv category (I use a spreadsheet; makes it easy to do):
    40%: Green Spot, Cragganmore 12, Dewar's 18
    43%: Laphroaig 10, Michel Couvreur Peaty Overaged, Glenfarclas 21, Lagavulin 16, Benromach 15, Oban 14, Old Pulteney 12, Edradour, Glen Moray 10 Chardonnay Cask, AnCnoc 12, JW Green label, GlenDronach 12
    45%: Frey Ranch Bourbon, Eagle Rare, Evan Williams 1783, WRDO, Balcones Texas Pot Still
    in my opinion, whiskey just gets more flavorful with more abv (d'uh), but you don't have to go too high either.

    Love the line up...a few more that can be added: Wild Turkey 86, Old Forester 86, and most definitely Old Forester 1910 (amazing flavor under 100 proof).
    BTW: When did Buffalo Trace start going for $45??? I find it relatively easily now in IL (more recently than before)...for $27 to $32. I know at the distillery it was sold for $26.
    Thank you for keeping it real!

      I almost never drink WT 81 since 101 is so affordable and available. 1910 was removed from consideration because it is double barrel finished. There was a mistake made on the price in post production on the BT slide.

    Is Bulleit bourbon still sourced from 4 roses or is their own distillate now?

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  9 месяцев назад

      The story they tell is that they have long since run out of the 4R sourced distillate. They have been producing their own whiskey for a while, but I happen to know they still contract distill with Bardstown Bourbon Company. I do not know if they use any other contract distillers.
