Just grabbed my first bottle of Barrell Vantage. Total Wine in Knoxville had 3-4 variations of Barrell Bourbon I haven’t seen yet. No Weller or Eagle Ten though 👎🏻

you need a couple drops of water in those high proofs to really get the flavor nuances. Just 2 drops of water can bring out the flavor and nobody does it in these blinds

I like some firewater every now and then. I would love to get my hands on Jack Daniel's Coy Hill, but I don't see that ever happening, and I'm not the sort of person who will hunt or pay top dollar for unobtainable bottles. There is plenty of other good stuff out there. Fortunately, Jack Daniel's single barrel barrel proof is readily available and well under $100. It is one of the best values out there. It delivers a lot for the price. I would also like to get my hands on that high strength Four Roses. I put the standard lower strength Four Roses single barrel against the standard Blanton's at a bar recently, and Four Roses won that comparison easily. Blanton's is very good but rather simple and straightforward, while the humble Four Roses single barrel that I can find at the grocery store for $40 has many layers of complexity.
This video inspired me to have a small pour of the most recent over $100 whisky that I bought. Last week, I got a bottle of Springbank 15-year. It is 46% ABV, so it isn't firewater, but 46% is a sweet spot for Scotch, and it is nicely balanced. All Springbank products are naturally presented - no added color and non-chill filtered. It provides everything that I love about Scotch. There is just enough peat to make it interesting, but it isn't overwhelming, and it allows the malty and woody elements to shine, giving this whisky a level of complexity that I have seldom encountered elsewhere. It is no wonder that Springbank is something of a unicorn in many places. Fortunately, it is intermittently available where I live. When I think about what I would consider to be perfection in Scotch whisky, Springbank 15 comes close.

If you're paying $300-$500 for Four Roses barrel picks, then you're getting scammed. I can find them for $90.
Also, there's really no point in including Coy Hill in this tasting. It was a limited release that is not coming back. No one can buy them now, unless they're getting them out of an auction for an insane amount of money.
