Sloth in Recreation and Gift Giving

- Sloth, one of the seven deadly sins, takes its name from the Old English... slow-th... meaning that the slothful man is slow in fulfilling his duties. He can fail in his duties either by being lazy or by being a workaholic in doing many things that ought not be done at this time and place. Thus, sloth is simply defined as not doing what you are supposed to be doing when you are supposed to be doing it. When we are slothful, then we are not under the umbrella of God's grace...and sin come readily and quickly. We get angry, lustful, curious... arrogant. This is why sloth is a deadly sin... it gives birth to a host of other sins. Recreation is one of the areas where man is very slothful in our culture... over doing it nearly every time... such that he becomes slothful in the midst of his amusements. Think about it... most people sin the most while seeking to be amused. This Christmas, let's strive to give gifts that help our loved ones fulfill their duties... not distract them and make them slothful. This sermon is outstanding! These lessons are from God and if people would just listen and follow this advice, things would be easier and uncomplicated. Good, common sense basically is what it is. And Jesus and Mary love us and want us to be happy and healthy. We will be if we just listen to Mary and Jesus. They are our parents and only want the best for us, the same as we want for our children.

It's hard to admit, but it's true that most movies and things we do don't direct our minds to eternal truths. Thank you, Father, and please pray for those of us who mean to repent and change our lives. It may not be easy. In turn I will pray for you and all priests trying to lead us to the truth.

Can I ask a dumb question. I'm a graphic designer, but I illustrate a lot in my spare time to sharpen up my skills. I love drawing and illustrating, I get real enjoyment out of it. Is this considered slothful?

@@jaysonyata1992 I'm guessing god, because I'm grateful for it. I've never said, look at me. and now, knowing this stuff, it's becoming more apparent. It's never really about me, or us, for that matter, that's the hard part. Coming to that conclusion and trying to navigate the waters in the sea of me me me, within our culture. Hence why, the west is dying.

Right recreation is not slothful. In fact God said sunday is solely for resting.
But if you’re recreating when you should be working then thats the problem.

Walt I just saw your comment. Sorry I offended you but my comment still stands. He can have the most wonderful homily in the world, but if can't present it well, very few will listen to it. Speaking with your sentences ending up in a high voice as if asking a question only shows that he needs some help in speaking and presenting his materials. That is what I want to get across, which is the least of our problems today. Anyone who speaks in the Valley Girl voice will not be viewed well.

Your beliefs are classified by others as "superstition" just as my beliefs are classified as "superstition" simply because others don't believe as I do.
Difference is you mock others for doing what they believe is right by their gods.
By if one we're to mock you, they are somehow, deficient in some way or another for not believing as you.
