To MScott Scott, I haven't listened to the whole sermon above but I'm a Tradional Catholic and have understanding of the phrase "detachment from the world". Of course there are different levels of detachment. Most extreme form is how Saint Francis of Assisi did it. Let's talk about the less extreme way. All we need to survive is a roof over our heads which can be a one bedroom apartment or a small house if you have a family; we don't need a big house with 3 bathrooms, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances; be detached from those worldly things. We need 3 meals a day which can be simple, inexpensive foods that we can make at home. We don't need to have steaks, fancy deserts or eating out at restaurants to survive . We don't need a Mercedes to transport ourselves to work; drive an economical, dependable car or take the bus. So, as you can see, if you live that way, you'll need very little money which means you don't need to work so much; hence, you'll have more time for God such as praying, read the bible, read books about the Catholic faith, help others, teach your kids about the faith. As for entertainment such as movies, traveling, dancing, hang out with friends to watch a game, gossip, to drink, etc are all worldly things (things that do not get you to heaven or closer to God) they're things that we don't need in order to survive and should be detached from.
We are to be attached to God alone. This means "hating" our families and loved ones (and when Jesus says He will reward us with better husbands, wives, etc., He means he will rescue and sanctify the ones we have). What it means is that we are not to be a respecter of persons. Those who follow this route are the saints. They may socialize when they desire to be alone, or be alone when they desire to be together with others. They may leave those they love when God calls. Or leave things and situations they love when God calls. Imagine! Jesus loved us when he saw in the end we would betray Him! How many of us would love some friend in the happy beginning of a relationship if we knew with certainty that they would bitterly betray us in the end?? That is detachment par excellence. Also, those who try their best to be attached only to God may end up dedicating their lives to something they did not prefer because of a persistent convicting call from God, whereas they would prefer to do another thing that is very good in and of itself, but not what God calls upon them to do. They may also cast their reputations to the wind, when that is called for. You will perhaps be with a group of friends, and everybody says, "oh, of course, blah blah, wow that's terrible," and they're all warm and cozy together and then they warmly ask you for your contribution, and you have to tell them something that they do not like, something they do not want to hear, and something that makes everyone uncomfortable. And to add to everything else, whatever the saints do, they will do it with love, such as love their enemies -- even the enemies who criticize them in some sense accurately though not necessarily in a good spirit, in ways they would not want to hear.
Lemme be real, from experience ish. I played videogames, tried for about a week and a half to just indulge. It disgusts me and now I feel way closer to Jesus since denouncing the world. So many near occasions of sin and evil things in our popular media.
( Detachment from the world could lead to the consecrated life which Our Lady Herself created. The consecrated life is a higher life because the virtues of the consecrated life are equivalent of the Angels.........+)
Thank you very powerful ♥️ Thank you Jesus and my Father Yahweh for letting me know that I am on the right way. Yesterday ended the book of JOB. Like the father's they lived completely with God as far as possible. And some didn't wanted to come back to the so called Society. One said,I after a long time for months I prayed to God and in meditation and in silence I decided to go with a peaceful heart to the town . but when I was there I did get sick by the shouting, and gossiping and vile things were spoken. I left as quickly as I could. My peace was ruined. And realized that I only want to be with my Lord God.
God can grant Infused Contemplation/ Passive Recollection to Married , single or a religious but it's probably easier to open oneself up for Our Lord as a single person / religious because you have more time for God. This has been what I have observed.
Thank you. Christ has been called that 'Essence of Detachment'. "He is My true follower who, if he come to a valley of pure gold, will pass straight through it aloof as a cloud, and will neither turn back, nor pause. Such a man is, assuredly, of Me. From his garment the Concourse on high can inhale the fragrance of sanctity...." ~ Baha'i Faith
Oh, my heart sank. Idol worship is alive and well in the very Vatican. It was presented at the Vatican Christmas concert and people and priests crossed their arms in a sign of worship.
Patrick Foley, that's a good point. There is a difference between detachment (Christian) and annihilation of self (Gnostic/Buddhist). We shouldn't scorn all material things JUST because they're material. Rather, we should see the material world as having an end, a purpose. Food and drink have a purpose, cars have a purpose, and so on. We should use material objects for their respective purpose in the material world, but NOT get too attached to them and start living to accumulate more material objects. Of course, the end (purpose) of man's existence is to know, love and serve God, so all of our possessions should at the end of the day contribute to that goal!
Excellent themes...."What is the dust which obscures the mirror? It is attachment to the world, avarice, envy, love of luxury and comfort, haughtiness and self-desire; this is the dust which prevents reflection of the rays of the Sun of Reality in the mirror." ~ Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i Faith
Detach! Good theme.. "attachment to the world, avarice, envy, love of luxury and comfort, haughtiness and self-desire; this is the dust which prevents reflection of the rays of the Sun of Reality in the mirror." ~ Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i Faith
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 Yes, God loved the world to draw His own out of it. By sacrificing His son unto death on the cross. The world is evil. We were evil until He called us out of it. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
Yes! We are all called to live as religious, saints. To love the world is to be an enemy of God. "Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15 We must rely on the graces from Christ our King to overcome the world within us. “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Not at all it's all about trust in Jesus. Consecrate yourself to the sacred heart and the holy mother. Both will help you tremendously in your prayer life.

In a society bent on death and the gallows-esque entertainment derived from it, I am not surprised be this question. Life is to be sanctified by ever medium available to us. The Hunger Games series is a crown jewel of hatred and violence for pleasure. This world loves such things. Catholics are not of this world.
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21 To live for Christ is to benefit others through our sanctified example. But to die in grace is to gain all glory with Christ our Lord. Which is better to you?
This is just the way this priest talks. I felt the same but his message is good. In some of his homilies the time is more intense. Love all good priests and it's for them
Unfortunately your linking Simeon and Anna to the priesthood and religious just ruined my favorite decade of the Rosary. How about leaving them as holy Jews which they were? The rest of your sermon was on point. All is vanity and that includes the human concept of "respect" for priests and religious. Look at the mess that has gotten the Church into. Love, not respect.
Man i have seen spiritual progress since quitting facebook
Very wise move.
Facebook is a tool of the enemy
I'm glad I never got on it. Or Twitter.
May God help me to detach from social media that lead me to sin
I am always edified in spirit by these holy men of God and their preaching. Thank you so much, and glory to God in the highest!
Thank You Lord, guide me forever. I wish to become your vessel. I relinquish my will to you God. You are my everything.

(We have embraced the virtue of detachment for 10 years, and are still embracing it.....+)

I love this vid I'm 13
Awesome. Thank you, Father for this sermon.
Thank so much for this beautiful encouragement that a husband and wife can pour themselves out for the Lord together. ❤️

St. Timothy and St. Mara, pray for us!
Pray for us! I've never heard of this couple. Wow what an inspiration!
Very encouraging. Many thanks

What a wonderful sermon 🙏🌺

This is so applicable to the world's current situation. To think that this lecture was 6 years ago...

Indeed ! Good observation 🙏
Be with people who help you to love Jesus more deeply. 11:20
This is challenging..but I am working on it. Thank you for the video
saints Timothy a nd Mara, please pray for us, amen

Idol worship is alive and well in the very Vatican. It was presented at the Vatican Christmas concert and people and priests crossed their arms in a sign of worship.
The catholic church has embraced friendship with the world throughout it's history.
11:25 I don't have such friends. Really wish I did 😔
I don't completely reject what the world has to offer. I temper my opinion with the knowledge that God created everything and He saw that it was good

Well put
His voice and manner of speaking reminds me of Stephen Colbert.
Amen
Hi Steve, awesome sermon from this priest!
Sorry for the question, but why anymore recent sermons of him?

Awesome! But I say Holy Spirit! "SPIRIT" sounds alive!
love it. but what about "God so loved the world...."
Sean Connelly it is the same as point no 3 love for thy neighbour
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 Yes, God loved the world to draw His own out of it. By sacrificing His son unto death on the cross. The world is evil. We were evil until He called us out of it. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
So, unless one is a priest or a religious, they are not worthy of the Unitive Way? Is that Church teaching?
Yes! We are all called to live as religious, saints. To love the world is to be an enemy of God. "Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15

loosing a child can teach mothers true detachment :(
John 3:16?
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 Yes, God loved the world to draw His own out of it. By sacrificing His son unto death on the cross. The world is evil. We were evil until He called us out of it. Men, this is how to control your wife, by the example of Sts. Timothy and Maura!
What exactly is wrong with the hunger games? Is it because of the violence? I didn't realize it wasn't good
bmw1725 nothing but when we try to draw analogies to Christian themes (baptizing)we get distracted from the real, spiritual, person Jesus Christ.

Die for Jesus is better than to live for Jesus? Crazy.
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21 To live for Christ is to benefit others through our sanctified example. But to die in grace is to gain all glory with Christ our Lord. Which is better to you?
All is but toys...
I appreciate the teaching while I very much dislike the tone. Difficulty following
