      That would involve a lot of eastward expansion for the NCR to reach the Capital Wasteland which would take a lot of time. More than enough time for the Tunnel Snakes to grow and develop into a force capable of standing up against and maybe even defeating the NCR. That would have made for a much better game than Fallout 76.

    1. Get in a Vertibird

    "General Lee Oliver prepared a trap in Boulder City..."
    No. Not at all. It was *Chief Hanlon* who prepared the trap and basically saved Oliver's ass. If you talk to some characters throughout the mojave, they hint that Oliver is hoping that by increasing military presence at the dam he can lead a more crushing and final victory against the Legion to overshadow Hanlon's tactical ingenuity.
    This distinction is important because it shows how ineffective the NCR's high command is. It showcases how rampant the nepotism and corruption is among the NCR government. Such ineffectual leaders like Lee Oliver and President Kimball can somehow gain power there, which is one of Caesar's main arguments against democracy as a whole.

      Personally, I side with Mr. House as a leader over the NCR and the Legion. In a House victory, the Legion is done away with and the NCR is forced to make concessions. Given his track record of surprisingly accurate predictions and his technological genius in terms of robotics manufacturing, he has both the ability to produce the equipment needed and the smarts to be an effective leader. If the NCR can accept that and work with House rather than try to undermine him, the two forces could do a lot of good in the Mojave.

    • @jeremysanders9336
      @jeremysanders9336 6 лет назад +100

      Corruption and nepotism aren't exclusive to democracies. Both corruption and nepotism are typically much more widespread within authoritarian governments than in democratic ones. At any time Caesar can and does choose to be above the laws he creates, like when he uses an auto doc to remove his brain tumor. The entirety of Caesar's Legion is built on him oppressing others, ensuring virtually no one has any rights except for him and those close to him, and forcing everyone under him at the threat of death to regularly meet standards that he does not have to meet. For him to attack democracies for being prone to corruption is ridiculously hypocritical considering he can choose to transcend the rule of law at any time to any extent he pleases and not even have to worry about facing any repercussions.The fact that democracies have leaders regularly being voted in and out along with having separate branches of government to regulate one another also severely limits the impact one corrupt leader can have. Plus, I'd take incompetent leaders propped up by nepotism over a man arbitrarily declaring himself a god as a means to justify his authority as he forces others to endure everything from slavery to rape. A man who then has the audacity to attack other forms of government for being prone to corruption as he disregards his own nonsensical laws for his own benefit, the epitome of corruption.

      @Bgsleo Attila was already extorting both Western and Eastern Rome for gold so it's highly unlikely that the Pope could have enough wealth to convince Attila to move his entire horde back north. By the time the Pope talked to Attila, Western Rome had no more gold to spare which is why Attila invaded in the first place. The real reason was likely that Rome was going through another plague so the Pope told Attila that he'd probably die the moment he reached the Aurelian Walls. Attila dying of a nosebleed shortly after leaving would have proved the Romans right had he killed the Pope and marched onto Rome.

      J 19 Except the NCR has the obvious advantages of firearms, body armour, and medical equipment. While the Legion have a few guns, Caesar specifically prefers his troops to use melee weapons and probably bows. That alone puts them at a disadvantage. If they invaded the NCR borders then the Republic would waste no time in committing all their might to wiping out the Legion.

    • @w415800
      @w415800 4 года назад +28

      No Rome was Shady Sands, Caesar wants to crash the Legion into NCR capital and see the result, which would be a fusion of two cultures, he knows the Legion cannot survive beyond his death, he wants to shake the NCR to its foundation and see what becomes of it, even if one side was annihlated, there would've been massive change.

      @timedraven117 4 года назад +10

      Same problem, he's delayed getting an heir up and running for too long and has killed or driven off all the possible replacements, IE Joshua Graham. He's left with Vulpes Inculta and Legate Lanius, once he dies, the civil war will start. It will be a small purge likely initiated by Inculta, but New Vegas' streets will run with blood by the end of the night, and there will be nothing to stop the NCR from rolling back in, rested and refreshed.
      the Long 15 works both ways, its too narrow and vulnerable, the legion can't push past it into the teeth and guns of the NCR, with an insufficient frontage to outflank the normally outnumbered NCR. As long as the NCR lives, the Legion is on borrowed time.

      +Federico MUNERATO +Canonreeve Oncano This is a bit of a half truth. The Romans did use some of the best technology, tactics, doctrines, and strategies in that part of Europe, but they weren't known to be the ones that developed these things very often. It was more common for them to find a technology or idea they liked, pilfer it, and exterminate/assimilate the culture that created it. This worked well for them up until a point, the attempted conquest of Britain. Usually when Rome's aggressive expansion exposed a military weakness they had time to study that weakness and the surrounding tribes to see who had a technology, tactic, doctrine, or strategy they could adopt. Because the people who best knew how to defeat whichever tribe the Romans were having trouble with were rival tribes from the area. Once they had a candidate they would try to "hire" a local warchief as a "consultant" so they properly understood what it was they were trying to adopt. And that;s ignoring the fact that the Legions weren't mainline infantry themselves. They were heavy infantry with a minimal light infantry compliment that usually couldn't take a conventional army head on even if the Legionaries outnumbered them. The Legions were supporting units that specialized in providing fire support (via slings and lead bullets), countering enemy infantry and cavalry charges (via the javelins they carried at the expense of proper thrusting spears), and breaking through weak and/or disrupted points in the enemy formations (via their standard issue swords and heavy armor) who acted as a force multiplier for the conventional forces that the Romans often hired from surrounding tribes who had more to gain by working with them than against them. When these tribes were accultured into Roman society but weren't Roman enough to be part of the Legions they fought in the Auxiliaries, Rome's domestic conventional military branch.
      By the time Rome tried to conquer Northern Britain they were taking too many casualties to novel technology and tactics to gain a proper understanding of what had gone wrong, to the point were they lost an entire Legion with no known cause. In Southern Britain and Germany, the Romans had been making asses out of themselves politically on such a regular basis, they were making enemies out of their allies. In one battle in Germany, the Auxiliaries that were supposed to have been covering a number of Legions betrayed them and attacked, delivering such a devastating and decisive defeat the Romans were never able to fully recover.

    Stormcloaks vs Imperials from Sykrim, I'd like to see who'd win that without the help of the Dragon Born. I'd imagine the Imperials would, they have far more resources. However the Stormcloaks know the land, which is a particularly harsh one, and if fought with the right tactics and the Dominion acting the way it has, it could lead to other parts of the Empire getting fed up with Elves secretly pulling the strings. And although they were able to conquer the Empire. Many of the Stormcloaks in Skyrim state the reason the Empire lost is because the Empire surrendered. And not only would suppressing rebellions across several regions at once would be hard. It would place economic strain on the Dominion, causing possible civil strife, making it possible that it would weaken enough for the Empire to wrestle free of their rule and push them out.

    • @Goldenkitten1
      @Goldenkitten1 8 лет назад +1

      +Imperial Dog - In regards to removing the leaders the one thing I always keep in mind is that without Tullius the Thalmor would come crushing in. The question is, would this actually empower the Stormcloaks even if Ulfric were to die? If both sides lost their leader at the same time the immediately obvious victor is the Imperials. Even without Tullius, just like the NCR, their government isn't going to collapse just because a single general dies. There will be shockwaves but compared to Ulfric where a large portion of the Stormcloaks would fall apart without him, the Imperials on the other hand would at most suffer morale loss before Tullius is replaced. However, what the Stormcloaks have on their side is conviction, compared to the Imperials where most soldiers sense of loyalty is nebulous, the Stormcloaks on the other hand have a very clear intent and strongly believe they are in the right (this can also be seen as a weakness though as if you remove that belief they start to fall apart). But that's why I think the moment the Thalmor show up in force is the moment the Stormcloaks go on to fight even harder, Ulfric alive or dead.
      That said the Empires size and resources will probably still win the day. But I think the war would be much longer than its presented as. They make it seem like if you side with the Imperials the war is over as soon as Ulfric dies, but history has proven the reality is that even if they're losing the Stormcloaks would continue guerrilla activities for years to come, and their cause may be rejuvenated under a new banner when more and more outside pressure is put on Skyrim by foremost the Thalmor, but honestly any outside government..

    • @Goldenkitten1
      @Goldenkitten1 8 лет назад

      I suppose I misspoke. I didn't necessarily mean that a Thalmor army would come in and start some fascist rule. I was speaking more that they would gain more room to manipulate and insert agents. Tullius himself admits that by maintaining the appearance of Imperial control they're keeping the Thalmor from taking a heavy handed stance against the rebellion.
      As for the treaty when in the world has that stopped them from extending their reach into pieces of the pie they aren't supposed to be in?

    This isn't necessarily true. You, as the courier, can address these specific things with Legate Lanius at the end of New Vegas to obtain a nonviolent speech ending. When you do Lanius realizes the implications of taking the Hoover Dam at that point in time and the repercussions of their plans to expand. He retreats East to restrategize, probably taking into account all of the things you mentioned in this video, with the promise that he will return west to take it the right way. Lanius' revelation at the hands of the courier could potentially lead to an outcome that contradicts everything in this video.

      I always thought the barter option's implications were exaggerated, especially relative to the NCR. There are a couple of good reasons why the logistical burden is very different for the Legion. It has the tribal knowledge of sourcing food and medicine from the land, doesn't require the same technological support to remain combat effective, and actually has robust trade routes in the East that presumably would be linked to Vegas and the outerlying towns upon their consolidation-- something the NCR never achieved.

      “The NCR has technology” isn’t a good argument. Not only because the legion do in-fact have technology, and are willing to use it but because technology is a weakness in the wasteland; the NCR is reliant on its supply lines, factories and power supplies. You damage or destroy even a few of those and their ability to wage war fractures.
      The legion on the other hand isn’t dependant on any of those nearly as much, while they’ll use such things and take advantage of them when they do, they aren’t dependant on them like the NCR.
      Obviously this doesn’t prove that the legion would win but to further my point; there have been dozens of cases in our own history when a technologically superior or larger opponent is defeated or held off because of reasons like these, and an especially prominent example in fallout itself:
      The Brotherhood of Steel didn’t win because “they had technology”.

      House had the right idea, force them into making a deal. I don't like the NCR path because it sort of gives into their totalitarianism but most of the actual soldiers have good and noble intentions so, with a House/Yes Man victory where the NCR is intact but humbled is my preferred outcome.

    • @samuelwithers2221
      @samuelwithers2221 6 лет назад +57

      MetroidJunkie NCR wouldn't be intact though. It's one of the biggest misconceptions I see whenever they're brought up. The NCR is suffering from an acute resource shortage and a failing economy. The Mojave isn't just expansionism for the sake of it, it's to help stabilize the nation and prevent imminent collapse. Water is becoming scarce and a famine is set to hit in a decade, but funding can't be put forward into projects to prevent these issues because of how unstable the economy is. By gaining the Mojave, they get electricity, water, farm space, and a revitalized economy due to the wealth of Vegas and the ability to back their currency with something tangible (water from Lake Mead). With the elimination of threats in the area (thanks Courier), all forces can be deployed to guard the Dam and hold their territory. The collected tax money can help build infrastructure and fund long term solutions to NCR's resource issue (the Vault 22 data) allowing them to become fully self sufficient. Lastly, on the subject of their corruption, Kimball and his administration are already on their way out of office, as the public are ready to oust them. The benefits of the Mojave likely aren't going to be enough to turn public opinion in his favor fast enough, and considering that there's now an entire state that despises him (the Mojave was to become the sixth state in NCR), he's not going to be around much longer. Once a new president is voted in, likely with actual public majority (everyone at home hates Kimball and the corruption to, it's not just Mojave residents) then the laws Tandi made to restrict land ownership and separate business from politics can be reimplemented. Overall, helping NCR has the ability to aid the absolute most amount of people and produce the best results for all involved. Thus, I side with them.

    • @VGamingJunkieVT
      @VGamingJunkieVT 6 лет назад +12

      The People's Republic of Utah
      The Dam isn’t rightfully theirs, they muscled it away from House. If they can’t survive without it, then blame the BOS for destroying their gold reserves, not House for taking his property back. Do you think the NCR is entitled to everyone else’s private property just because they’ve got good intentions? Sorry, but there’s some real corruption among their higher ups, they feel entitled to land that’s not rightfully theirs. I side with House because I like their charitable efforts but they need to get over themselves.

    • @samuelwithers2221
      @samuelwithers2221 6 лет назад +19

      MetroidJunkie Technically, the Desert Rangers owned the Mojave, but then unified with NCR if they agreed to defend the land from the Legion. House only popped up after, and the Dam wasn't occupied by anyone, so it's perfectly fair game. Plus, are you actually suggesting all of NCR and everything they've work towards should collapse because 'they don't own the Dam.' Because spoilers, House doesn't either, he only defended the Strip, YOU don't, and the Legion certainly doesn't. NCR's claim is the most official out of all of them, so if it's an issue of who lawfully owns what (in a lawless wasteland, no less) NCR wins out. As for all other towns, in the actual ending for the NCR in NV, provided you've done everything the best you can, Goodsprings gets it worst, and that only involves a few old timers (Easy Pete) to migrate elsewhere. Novac stays independent, Jacobstown stays independent, the Kings play a prominent role in Freeside along with the Followers, who both help NCR, Sloan is already NCR, Nipton, Nelson, and Searchlight are currently wrecks, so they don't count, and Primm gets more revenue from trade. Literally everyone comes out on top at the end.
      P.S.- It's not entitlement and pure greed driving them, as I've said, it's a last ditch effort to save everything that has been built in the last two hundred years, and keep hundreds of thousands from starving before a long term solution can be implemented (the Vault 22 data you can get for the OSI). NCR doesn't deserve to die because of one bad administration. Following that logic, the US never would've made it past John Adams, the *second* president.

      The dam is the NCR's main power supply, that's true. However, the food from the Sharecropper Farms is irrelevant, the farms were mostly constructed to give NCR citizens more jobs, the NCR has more than enough food production further west. Lake Mead is important because its water is used to irrigate the sharecropper farms, and the NCR DOES have more than enough water, as seen by the water-standard currency being devalued due to water becoming more common and accessible within NCR territory.

    It's interesting that nobody in the game realizes the Legion has just as much of an issue of becoming stretched thin as the NCR. The NCR can absorb anybody willing and to a certain extent already have that cultural homogenous populace Caesar wants for the Legion. The problem is that it is much, much easier to convert disparate groups into members of a civilization homogenous enough to function. Sure, the different towns in the NCR might have different backgrounds, but they're close enough to assimilate just fine. The same may not be said for the Legion, especially when the only thing holding them together are the values and leadership of a man whose time is running out. The NCR assimilating disparate groups that existed under the Legion has better hope than the Legion does of assimilating the NCR because those groups eastward aren't as established, nor do they have the backup to keep them from being assimilated. Back to my original point, the NCR might be on the frontier of its territory, but everywhere behind it is established enough that it'll be a tough fight for the Legion. The Legion doesn't have the time, nor strength to shore up the land east of the dam, so it'll be easier to take for the NCR than the NCR's land would be for the Legion. The Legion is stretched thin everywhere, while the NCR is only stretched thin in that the Mojave is the part they're stretching into.

      AnbusKi There are no "raiders" because the Legion troops are the raiders. They've even shown as much that their methods of policing their own lands and people are on par with their wartime tactics. As for super mutants, I'd be willing to bet that there weren't many in Legion territory to begin with, as the only known groups are Mariposa, Midwest, Vault 87, and Institute super mutants. They are scarce enough in the Mojave, they'd probably be exceedingly rare past that. Even in the Mojave they are almost a negligible threat. The biggest threat you're likely to see in the NCR is tax collectors. In Legion territory your "landlords" could actively beat your ass or rounding up your family for slave labor just because it tickled their fancy that day.
      The only claims of security are given by a select few characters and are relatively unsubstantiated at best.

    One idea I've heard is if the player sides with the legion there is a possibility that Edward would name the player heir to the legion and title of Caesar. Assuming the player character is a man this would probably go alright without the legion as you are the big war hero and all that. Then it's pretty much up to the player character to continue the integration of tribals into the legion, administrating the empire, and continuing its military campaigns.

    • @SerfinBird
      @SerfinBird 8 лет назад +5

      issue is Lanius chances are he would be pissed since he was Ceasar's second in command and the men would fear him his method of leadership was make the soldiers fear the general behind them more than the enemy in front of them so most would likely follow him out of fear and a schism would occur

    • @justtheouch
      @justtheouch 8 лет назад +3

      That would simply lead to civil war within the Legion. As mentioned, the loyalty of those within the Legion is tied to Caesar, not his ideals. The presence of at least two claims to leadership over the Legion would lead to a divide in support, weakening the unit and allowing the NCR to bide their time to mop up the scraps.
      Even assuming a male Courier (a female one would not have a chance) it's unlikely that many who serve the Legion would so readily support a profligate leading their ranks, especially given Lanius technically lead to victory in the second battle of Hoover Dam. The Courier was just a stranger Caesar trusted, but the Legate would only see as a threat.

    • @tekelodoyo
      @tekelodoyo 8 лет назад

      To be fair, though, the Courier can be quite intimidating, if you consider the possible feats he could accomplish during the course of the game. Therefore, he should be able to gain support if said feats become more widespread.

    • @Alatuber
      @Alatuber 8 лет назад +8

      In that case, the Courier only has to kill Lanius and put his head on a pike, showing everyone that he's the fiercest warrior in the Legion.

    • @DavidSSabb
      @DavidSSabb 8 лет назад

      Even if the Courier is Caesar and is actually fierce enough to hold the tribes together, that doesn't solve several of the remaining issue. A big one is that there aren't tribes to integrate in the NCR, the Legion might find slaves in the farmers and ranchers of the NCR but they won't have the source of fierce warriors that are easy to manipulate because of their lack of education. Meanwhile, the farther you get into the NCR's territory, the more the problems that the NCR faces in the Mojave - long supply lines limiting equipment, lack of a central purpose, aren't problems anymore. Supply lines are short and Californians will want to defend their homeland moreso than the Mojave.

It is because this General Oliver is actually at odds with Hanlon, doing the opposite of whatever the chief recommends. Both men know of the impending 2nd battle for the dam and Oliver wants to win it himself. So he covers only half of the dam, setting up the field of a grand battle. He prioritizes his glory over a sensible defense.

    i disagree with a bunch of stuff:
    Lanius says that the legion will swell with numbers when it conquers the mojave, meaning (unlike the NCR who tax and conscript their occupations) the legion will have plenty of new soldiers to bolster the ranks which lessens the magnitude of being 'stretched thin.'
    While many of the legion may remember their tribes, caesar "annihilates" their cultural identity probably to combat the situation you've described, but whether or not annihilation is absolute... :/
    Thirdly, Lanius is a commander and probably the next caesar but don't forget about Vulpes! the battle for hoover dam was executed by lanius but was (i think) orchestrated entirely by caesar himself meaning a dichotomy exists, in that, lanius may be caesar but will still be in the field, so planning will be done including lanius (at least in part), but Vulpes (who is the most cunning and alike to caesar) will be a key strategist for the legion's future.
    Most importantly, the legion doesn't do all its fighting on the field, rather they have an intricate spy network and undermine their foes before finishing them decisively. in this, their march westward would be easy to seed with frumentarii (under guise of escaping refugees or whatever) and the process can begin again.
    All of this while the NCR remains defensive and therfore at a loss of information, and information is even more important than technology, since even ordinary guys with guns and machetes can take over Nevada (shout-out to Felicia Day) and the administration of the legion is more adaptive than you've given them credit for

      ***** with the courier's help though, House gets removed from the equation entirely and his bots too. And their spy network is more subtle than anyone gives them credit for, the best example being Curtis who made captain in the NCR and likely remains that way for years to come with the courier's involvement. And it's true the NCR can't be assassinated for a decisive blow, they still have supply lines and other priority targets that the Legion can target (the monorail in new vegas for us).
      As for how things would go without the courier, no idea but it would probably suck for each side, especially the legion, and benefit House

    • @borisdaanimal4014

      firstly, that's a very nice closing line!
      second, I think the legion wants to burn and enslave the NCR rather than occupy it, but you're right that in doing so, they'd ironically stretch themselves thin and be forced back. i think there'd be a stalemate point somewhere between the mojave and California though, and not between the mojave and arizona.

      ***** but Rome could never conquer Germany who were nothing but barbarians. in this scenario, Rome is NCR with it's fortifications, siege and sophistication while Germany is the Legion with crude tactics and a homefield advantage.
      That was an exorbitantly roundabout way of saying: the legion knows what fights it'll lose, why engage in an open field against vertibirds if there is a forest (?!) nearby for cover. there is a lot to consider outside of technology, otherwise the Enclave would never have lot a war. by the way, this thread is a lot of fun and i'm so glad it's remained civil! :)

      +boris daanimal I would disagree with the notion the video put out about the NCR being able to grow back two heads when one is cut off. Although the people of the Mojave generally dislike Caesars Legion, they make it clear in the game that their voices are not really significant. It's those that rule from California and the Hub, who don't really care about some desert miles away. If Caesar can step up his guerrilla game, pull something really audacious like assassinating the families of deployed local NCR troops, or ambushing and butchering an elite Ranger team and displaying their corpses for the profligates to see in Camp McCarren or something, the morale of the NCR govt could be broken and they would pull out of the Mojave. Although the Legion may not make a stable nation state, it would technically then have won the war.

    • @NaughtyToaster
      @NaughtyToaster 8 лет назад

      ***** Well in that case the NCR definitely holds the advantage. The only way the Legion won Hoover Damn was through pure shock and awe, they overwhelmed the NCR forces stationed there. Which then has me raise the question, what about the north west? Has Fallout Lore ever addressed places like Washington state, Oregon, or Idaho? I wonder that if the legion managed to take these states and totally encircle California if they would then stand a better chance? Or do you figure that regardless of numbers the NCR simply have the technological and tactical advantages?

      That Dam Wizard Problem is, they don't quite have the strength to face a stronger opponent. Yes, the NCR is probably at its weakest in NV, but what of the Brotherhood (Given the Courier convinces the Brass to pardon the Brotherhood and agree to mutual surrender), The Remnants of the Enclave (Given the Courier convinces them to help the NCR) the Khans (If the Courier convinces them to help NCR), and The Boomers? If these factions ally with the NCR, it would be very difficult for the Legion to gain the upper hand, especially with the Brotherhood, Boomers and Remnants, as the Legionnaires are notoriously weak to plasma and explosions. The Boomers' B-25 could be fit with a low-yield, full size nuclear weapon akin to the ones used against Japan in WWII to skin the Legion alive. The Remnants and Brotherhood could go in afterwards using their power armor as sort of radiation and damage protection and wipe out any little resistance that's left. The Legion is vulnerable, especially if Caesar and Lanius are killed. All those tribes, as Austin said, are going to want their freedom, their individuality, back, and they'll war over it. That's when to strike, whether with atomic weapons, carpet bombing or just sheer force.

    Interesting how you first point out how Caesar's legion changed tactics after the first battle of hoover dam and then just assume they would keep using the same methods against the NCR following victory in Nevada.
    Also Caesar planned to reform the Legion from what he described as a "nomadic army" to an autocratic state with a standing professional army with their new capital in Vegas. This would probably have made them behaved very different from before.
    This is assuming that Caesar survives for long enough to do all that. If he survived for long enough to cement this I think it probable that Vulpes Incuplta succeeds him. Otherwise Legate Lanius seems more probable. They would use very different tactics and have very different priorities.
    Lanius would probably have either have engaged in a straight forward war with the NCR or kept expanding east, incorporating tribes. If facing NCR I do believe he'd lose, although he is described as being tactical and devious despite his portrayal so maybe he'd at least not get annihilated . Technologically and politically Lanius would probably not have advanced from how the Legion is shown in Fallout New Vegas.
    Vulpes however would not have engaged NCR in symmetrical warfare. He would also almost certainly have been a societal and technological reformer to try to even the playing field. This together with his manipulative skills, terror tactics shown in Nipton and indirect genocidal/area denial attack on Searchlight would make him very dangerous to an already politically unstable NCR. Sowing dissent and creating unrest in NCR from within, like shown in the quest to bomb the monorail with the frumentarius Curtis, would also do tremendous damage to the NCR.
    All in all the NCR has an advantage in technology, industry and manpower. But the Legion is much more efficient in using theirs, and are more unified and motivated. I would personally bet on the Legion to be the winner, but NCR winning is a perfectly reasonable guess as well. I do however feel you give undue credit to the NCR.

      Viktor if Caesar could have made New Vegas his capitol he probably could've became a greater more stable power but yes assuming first that he survives long enough and he is somehow able to take control of Vegas its self. Unless there was an inside man such as the player himself. If you were to so choose too help the legion. The legion would need someone to hand over Vegas to them flat out. Otherwise Mr. Houses robots would obliterate them in huge waves as they were to try and over run the city. Especially after their weapon systems have been upgraded and seeing as how their is a huge army of them.

    • @viktornoren9504
      @viktornoren9504 7 лет назад +15

      First you point out the Legion needing an inside man like the courier and then assume Mr. House would get upgraded Securitrons (which was the courier's doing). I'm arguing based on a world without the courier as it's quite pointless if we talk about all the possible things the courier might do.
      Without the courier Mr. House probably wouldn't manage much (he hadn't before the arrival of the courier), especially with Benny still there undermining him. Also remember that the Omertas were already in service to the Legion, so they do have a faction inside working with them. The Legion/Omertas alliance was secret to the other factions so they would have wreaked havoc on the strip in one way or another.
      And whilst the Securitrons are formidable in straight forward combat, there's nothing forcing the Legion to engage in that. They are incredibly inflexible apart from just standing in the open shooting at a target. Also Mr. House is not a military strategist and is alone in directing the actions of the Securitrons, thus could probably be overwhelmed by simultaneous attacks. All in all I feel people constantly underestimate the value of the zeal within the Legion and their unrestricted approach to warfare.

      Viktor the NCR has one last Trump card. As the legion marches west, the BoS is going to find itself having to choose between letting the anti technology and backwards legion run roughshod over the NCR or once again sign an uneasy alliance with the NCR. With the BoS I'd say they're smart enough to go with the devil they know.

      Sure, that is true. Although at least in New Vegas they are shown to have been reduced drastically in strength. I think it is possible they decide to go underground or migrate as well as help the NCR, they do have deep historical grievances.

    • @Jay_76
      @Jay_76 7 лет назад +1

      If I remember correctly, the NCR pretty much destroyed the Brotherhood on the west coast. The group you find in NV are basically the last remaining BoS members west of the Mississippi river. and without an independent operator (aka "the Courier") the Brotherhood is a non threat to everyone. The real question is, who gets the Boomers on their side and in what capacity. If the Legion can recruit them peacefully/conscript them, then, the NCR's technological advantage is negated and their major cities and outposts will eventually fall to a combination of high altitude bombing runs and ground invasion. At least until either the NCR starts to engage in guerrilla warfare or, the NCR citizens demand a peace negotiation. BUT, if the NCR can get the Boomers to join them, they will use the B-52 to destroy Legion outposts and eventually conquer enough of the midwest US to threaten the BoS/Enclave on the east coast. NOW, before you start with..."but it's the player that gets the bomber from the lake!"... ANYONE trying to get the Boomers on their side could do perform that task. All that's necessary, is the first contact between the NCR/Legion and the Boomers. after that, the scenario plays out like it would in-game just without the Courier.

    Most of what has been said here can be said of the Islamic State too. One thing I've observed from watching conflicts in the Middle East is that terrorism is the tactics of the weak and desperate. If you have enough resources to win the war you just attack strategic points: it's a cheaper strategy and it produces even more resources over time. Terrorism, in other hand, spends resources and manpower and you get nothing concrete in return: Al Qaeda didn't get any resources from 9/11 and the Islamic State also didn't get any resources from the attacks in Paris, on the contrary, they've spent resources and made communication lines more vulnerable. The only thing you get from terrorism is morale, but morale doesn't pay wages, doesn't make guns, doesn't make food, doesn't fuel vehicles...

    • @MagnusMoerkoereJohannesen
      @MagnusMoerkoereJohannesen 8 лет назад +11

      Exactly. Terrorism, partisan and guerilla warfare are very potent weapons to employ against an occupying force (see Vietnam), but once a state abandons traditional warfare in favour of guerilla warfare, well, there's not much left to do. Such irregular forces aren't able to hold or administer territory, which is the entire point of war.

    • @AdrianoAndrade0
      @AdrianoAndrade0 8 лет назад +1

      +Keith Killner Yeah, but you're forgetting one thing I mentioned: terrorist attacks make your own communication lines vulnerable. After a terrorist attacked the following investigations reveal spies, means of communication, bank accounts that financed actions... Also, the attacker inflict minimum damage and makes the adversary more aware of their own vulnerabilities, giving them time to reinforce those weak points.
      Middle Eastern paramilitary groups don't intend to win a war against infidels, that war is pretty much lost to their commanders. The intention of terrorist attacks by those groups is to boast their strength to other local groups and governments.

      Yeah, it's a ridiculous notion the Daesh are a threat to western nations. It isn't easy to drive to NY in a Toyota pickup from Iraq. Though I don't think they suffer from an iconic leader issue.
      But guerrilla warfare is exactly the tactics of the weaker force, that's why it's there. And not to open a con of worm, but one man's guerrilla freedom fighter is another man's illegal terrorist insurgent. The Geneva convention was written by nations with military might.

    • @AdrianoAndrade0
      @AdrianoAndrade0 8 лет назад

      mavis cruet you misunderstood me. Terrorist groups are definitely a threat to civilians BUT as a war tactic it is innefective - the Daesh won't make a western nation surrender with terrorism, they're not gaining resources nor territory... The attacks only serve as a propaganda to make them look strong, but if you look closer they're like a frog inflating itself to look bigger and more menacing, but it's just full of air.

    • @DJMavis
      @DJMavis 8 лет назад +5

      Didi Andrade It's effective and proven to be so when you're defending your own nation. It's not an effective way of attacking one. During the 2nd World War Greece had quite a lot of success in the north, they disrupted and harried the Germans. Would it have beaten them in time? Maybe not, but they were hugely outgunned. But if the goal of the invader is occupation then it's effective because the can't stop using military occupation rather than a civil one, which basically means a never ending war. It worked in Vietnam, it worked in Afghanistan.

    That's pretty damn sad on the NCR's part when considering they have better and more of literally everything except for the physical conditioning of their standard troops. The mere fact that the Legion even has a chance at winning (made even worse by the fact that they're the more likely of the 2 to win) shows just how incompetent the NCR are, since i'm pretty sure that it takes a special kind of idiot military to make those odds despite having better weapons, armor, numbers, and defending advantage.

      Not entirely true. Both sides amassed a large portion of their troops for Hoover Dam, giving the NCR the defensive home field advantage as both sides have about half of their entire armies defending their other territories.
      And if i remember correctly, Legate Lanius only states that the Legion isn't good at defensive battles so they need to make Hoover Dam as decisive of a victory as possible (so that they won't have to defend it later). By all means and purposes, the courier's importance is comical since the NCR actually has no disadvantage aside from individual physical fitness.

This could lead the Empire, or at least more of the people in it. Into considering a rebellion against the Aldmeri.
      On the other hand if the Stormcloaks lose they were still a smaller force (That likely doesn't have much training. Compared to the Empire or Aldmeri anyways.) going up against 2 world superpowers, and getting pretty close to winning. This could once more cause the Empire to consider a rebellion against their elven overlords.
      So while the actual war in Skyrim may not be that important strategically it is very likely that it would lead to the fall of the Aldmeri dominion, or at least freedom for most of the people under it.

    • @thomassmall70
      @thomassmall70 8 лет назад +1

      Avarickan Firstly, the Aldmeri have a minor presence at best in Skyrim and so it isn't really the combination of Empire and Aldmeri, it's just the Empire, and even then not its whole strength.
      Secondly, the Elves aren't 'overlords', the White Gold Concordat was a Treaty, not a surrender, the Empire is still independent, even if weakened and vulnerable.
      Thirdly, the idea that the war in Skyrim would spark a declaration of war from the Empire (it would be a war not a rebellion since the Empire aren't subjects of the Aldmeri) is purely opinion, I personally don't think it would do so whether the Empire win or lose against the Stormcloaks.
      The Aldmeri have an active interest in the Stormcloak Rebellion, they likely demanded the banning of Talos worship in the White Gold Concordat specifically to spark such a reaction in the devout province of Skyrim, because forcing the Empire to fight a second war, and possibly lose a province will only weaken the Empires position when war inevitably does break out again,
      Win or lose, the Stormcloak Rebellion drastically weakens the Empire and leaves a bared throat for the Aldmeri to bite whenever they please. I agree that the events of Skyrim will likely lead to war between the Empire and Aldmeri again but I think it'll be on Elven terms, not Imperial ones.

    • @onyxtay7246
      @onyxtay7246 8 лет назад +2

      Thomas Small Whether the Aldmeri presence is minor or not doesn't really matter. Just seeing that you can fight back, and even win could spark a war.
      While the White Gold Concordat may not technically be a surrender it basically was. The elves were given a large portion of Hammerfell, worship of a god was banned, the Blades the best fighting force in the Empire (based on skill.) were disbanded, and the Thalmor can do whatever they please within the Empire as long as it has to do with one of these things.
      The Empire has been cowed into submission by a superior force, and Skyrim fighting back could be the spark that sets them off. Seeing that they don't need to fear the elves could lead the Empire to a war.
      Looking more into the lore it makes sense that the elves outlawed Talos worship to get Skyrim to leave the Empire. It had already lost Hammerfell due to the Redguards not liking the idea of giving up a large portion of their land.
      It seems like the best solution would be to just hire a lot of assassins to kill off high-ranking officers in the Aldmeri army, as well as any other leaders they have. Even if two more will grow back you might have time to burn off the stump.

      The BOS would most likely win. The Enclave may have technology and numbers, but basically collapses in Fallout 3. Ceasers legion Would fail because of numbers, leadership, tech, and morals. Considerably the most ill-equipped "faction" for those reasons. The NCR has little foothold in possibly the most important areas. They also would not have enough supplies to move location. If they tried, it would most likely lead to a death march. Because The BOS is so wide spread, they would do fine. They have the best tech too. They could also pull out LIBERTY PRIME. This is a great idea, I'd definitely love to see more like this, personally.
    Wordwall time, with my own input on the matter.
    I've always been pro-NCR so this evaluation suits me well, but the best thing about this video is that it isn't just "NCR wins cause they're NCR". You gave very legitimate reasons they'll win in the long run; they've even been tested by history itself. It definitely makes sense that the NCR can out-attrition the Legion in the long run; sure, they're stretched thin in the Mojave... but that's the frontier; the tip of the spear for their expansion.
    I mean.... The Legion can easily handle the NCR in the Mojave; on the fringes of NCR territory. It's a far cry from most of NCR civilization; they're the scouts, the Forward Operating Bases, the Outposts and Ranger Stations. Of course the regular NCR Army has presence here, but for the most part it's still frontier land. Bring the fight to the NCR heartland, things won't be so peachy. Especially since factions like the Brotherhood and maybe even Enclave remnants will get involved; "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" etc. This has already been proven through gameplay in New Vegas with both of those particular factions. They may not love the NCR but their ways of life would be at risk with the Legion's presence, too. Most of NCR land is "civilized" (non-tribal) now. Nobody wins if the Legion takes control, so everybody in the area would have some stake in seeing them pushed back. And, like you said, they'd be pushing directly into the heart of the NCR's supply network and manufacturing capabilities; running headlong into a fountain of lead, weapons showering down into the hordes of waiting conscripts and fresh recruits. Plunging straight toward all the shiny Brotherhood and Enclave tech the NCR recovered after their respective wars; all the vertibirds, plasma weapons, gatling lasers.... it would be a mess for the Legion, especially since they've got no air capabilities. One Vertibird outfitted for attack instead of transport could ruin an entire line of Legion defense. NCR may even have some pre-war fixed wing aircraft running, for all we know. And it goes without saying, they'd have the blessing of artillery support in their homeland; something even the Legion has in limited measures, but a nomadic group such as they are would never be able to last against long-standing fixed emplacements with well-trained crews.
    The Legion may be able to win Vegas... but there's no way in hell they can kill the Bear.

    The hoover dam doesn't just give a vital road however, it gives control of it's electricity, and that can lead to the rest of the Mojave and the strip, which Caesar said he would make his 'Rome' out of. The NCR would be hard pressed to take the Mojave from the Legion even with a weak leadership, until the Legion has enough of an identity to start pressing again. I reckon Caesar has thought of that command issue, but is waiting until he is more secure in the Mojave to start passing on the leadership. For now at this critical stage, it is important for the troops to be loyal to him and him alone as an ideal. He is, after all, educated and knows the history of the original Rome, do you think he would plan to make the same mistake?

      How exactly is Caesar going to build his power, sure he can assimilate the great khans and any of the people on the strip that don't resist, but other than that his army is stretched pretty much as thin as it can be. To the north there is the New Canaanites and hostile Raider tribes, to the east there is only the endless flats of Texas, to the South the barren wastes of Mexico, and to the west a wall of resistance. And while he can send men any of these directions to try and assimilate others, the small amount of men Caesar will get from the Mojave is not enough to cover the cost of finding more tribes. And the Legion really has no other way to build strength, sure they may make trade safer but that's only for those that survive. Caesar lays waste to so many of the communities that could create any potential wealth through taxation. In fairness slaves could be doing more for the Legion than what we see in the game but as far as we know the slaves aren't being used for farming, or building anything beyond shanty camps. Who in Caesar's ranks is equipped to build anything, no one, that's who.

      We never hear anything about Caesar except his rise to power. We have no idea if he has heirs that he has groomed to be competent rulers. Legate Lanius is the assumed heir because 1 the devs ran out of time and couldn't flesh out the Legion and 2 because he's their best warrior. Just the warrior thing is irrelevant though as being the most badass warrior isn't cause to be in charge or Lanius obviously would have already unseated the old man Caesar. Obviously there's more to it than just being combat effective as an individual.
      I do agree with the video's take that invading the NCR would be totally different than swallowing up independent tribes but I don't believe for a second that the NCR would be infallible just because they're a democracy. If Caesar's heir or heirs (depending on how long it takes) the Legion could absolutely defeat the NCR. Not quickly but over time they could definitely annex territory bit by bit until they reach the ocean.
