I love this idea! I kept seeing videos of how to fold woven fabric, but I use mostly knit. Thank you SO MUCH!

Anyone else put off doing this because you feel overwhelmed with so much of it? I need to just do it. Your room looks so organized. I can only imagine how nice it feels with out stuff from other projects all mixed together in your work space.

oh yes! It took me a while because like you I kept getting overwhelmed but honestly the thought of having an organized room and not being overwhelmed by all my fabric kept me going!!! just take it a little at a time and you can do it!!

Hi there, love your organized folded material on the shelves. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

I measured the depth of my shelves with my ruler and marked that spot with painters tape. I folded my fabric accordion-style using the ruler as a guide. Once I had this depth folded, I then folded the fabric over and over, then put it on a shelf. I found fabric I had forgotten, and it is so much easier to find what I need. I highly recommend folding your fabric in a uniforms manner.

Diana….I absolutely love you ! I just found you a few weeks ago and am watching all your videos! have learned a lot ! Love the way you use the little clips instead of pins and notching the fabric to mark quarters (my pins always fell out) And giving the neck band and cuffs etc a memory press before sewing ends❤️❤️😍❤️
You are the best I’ve watched!!
Now a great tip on folding fabric!!!!
    Thank you 😎

This is just what I need! Moving into a home where I have a large dedicated sewing room and need to get the fabrics out of the dreaded bins from moving. With some new shelving, this will be perfect! Thanks so much for sharing. One quick question: With the thicker knits - sweater, french terry, have you ever used the wider ruler (I think it's 8.5" wide) to keep the folder fabric more compact?

Ooooh girrrl! Thank you thank you! This is such perfect timing… I just started reorganizing my sewing room a couple days ago. I’d have been so embarrassed if anyone could see the mess it was in! Way worse than yours was Hee Hee 😊 I cannot wait until it’s completed so I can feel joy again when entering my happy place! 💕

I like to put a sticky label on with the yardage, especially with pieces I have used part of.

Question, is swimwear hard to sew, I’m just beginning so I’m just wondering. Any advice I will take, thanks so much! Hope everyone has a great rest of the day xoxoxox

We have a few swimsuit videos you may want to check out but I find that as long as you get the right stitch, sewing swim is just like any other fabric. I love to use a bigger size zigzag stitch so my fabric doesn't bunch. I use a ball point needle or stretch/knit needle on my sewing machine. swim can be a little slippery so I also prefer using clips to pins and I take very slow ❤️ I hope this helps!

Love this method! Does it still work for larger bolts? I have a couple orders with 4+ yards, some in French Terry and it feels like I can’t get them folded well because they’re so bulky!

    • @EllieandMacPatternsLLC
      @EllieandMacPatternsLLC  3 года назад

It works best for under 4 yards but I would try it and see how it goes. Some fabrics are not as bulky as others so it might work with some but not all.

Love the fold, but I want to know how do you keep track of the fiber content and washing instructions for each fabric???! I try, but I do not always snap a pic of the info on the bolt ends, and even if I did, how would you even begin to organize/match that info with each fabric?? I'm not seasoned enough to even differentiate the multitude of fabrics available, let alone what I purchase :(

  • @dovaillancourt

Very clever. You could also put them on the vertical way. They would be easier to pull out.
Do you separate them into sizes though ? When you fold a cut piece, it could be just any size and maybe not enough for a certain pattern ? Just wondering as I am an upcycler so I work with piecing a lot.
