One of the things I love of Cannibal Corpse is the fact that they're not the monsters that stupid people think they are because of the kind of music they play. Instead of that they're really nice persons and really nice to their fans. In my opinion those things are very respectable.

He is absolutely right! When people say to me (who don't have any glue about metal): "oh this angry sound and screaming, you must get so angry and depressed by this noise" no way!!! This music keeps you up on your feet! Like Alex said it helps you through hard times, when everything's shit turn on some good metal (death metal, black metal, heavy metal, thrash metal) it doesn't matter, it's just a relieve!
Alex is such a nice dude. After their show this year in Stuttgart, Germany, my brother and I waited almost an hour, when everybody was already gone, except for me, my brother and 4 other guys. Then suddenly Alex came right to us and talked with us about this show and about the metal music in general. Later on we were joined by Paul and finally George Fisher, the legend himself talked to us, like we were visiting him to hang out and drink some beer, all of them were such nice, friendly down to earth guys. This made this evening even better than it already was! I took a picture with George and I will never forget this awesome day, one of the best days in my life

Although I was bullied, etc. I like metal just because of the joy it brings me as you were saying for yourself. I'm 29 years old and still enjoy metal. I also listen to Jazz, Big Band, Goth Rock, Industrial, Old School Country, classic rock, Thrash, etc. I pretty much like it all accept for Gospel, new pop, and new country. It is not an escape for everyone but for some it is and even for the ones that is is an escape for they usually listen to it all their lives. A select few are the exception.

We listen to music that we can relate to. I've had many struggles in life and death metal music contains lyrics that equate to my own personal struggles. I have mental issues (PTSD and Bipolar Disorder) that cause me to think in certain ways...often times them being negative thoughts. Metal is an outlet for me. It helps me process my thoughts emotions and feelings. I also love metal music because it has a community full of people that I can relate to. I've found that many people that have the same struggles that I do are into metal and I don't think it's a coincidence. Bands I've seen live so far: ghoul, powertrip, black Dahlia murder, cannibal corpse, morbid angel, killswitch engage, parkway drive. Awesome times!

My favorite Metal bass player, and member of one of my top ten bands of any genre of music. Alex is no bullshit and a killer musician. I love the guys in Cannibal because they do what they do so well and I know they're doing it with a smile and without taking themselves too seriously. I listened to Heavy Metal when I was a kid because I was "angry" or whatever, but as an adult it's just turned into fun music to listen to. Reading Cannibal lyrics as a 15 year old made me feel rebellious and edgy (I guess, it's been a while), now I just laugh and have fun with how entertaining it is. I get the same good feeling from my favorite Rock, Rap, Funk, or Blues music. So I guess now that I'm older I put Cannibal in the same category as Johnny Winter or Humble Pie, feel good tunes.

Metal is the ultimate form of musicianship, its (often) fast, technical, and takes years to master.
One could say that Beethoven, Bach or Vivaldi are also fast and technical - and don't get me wrong, they wrote very beautiful music - but you can't really bang your head to Moonlight Sonata ( it's really more of a head bob then a bang)...

i like death metal cause if i concentrate on it it still doesnt get boring. if i concentrate on pop i fall asleep cause of too much simplicity... and nothing else can wake me up in the morning, except for coffee. apart from that, metal is one of the few genres where you never finish with learning on guitar, there is alway something harder to try. and of course to release anger and aggression. after 5 necrophagist songs i feel calm and save as a rock.

When I first time saw a short live piece Cannibal Corpse performing in Germany - I think the year was 1994 or so- in the MTVs Headbanger's ball, then I was like:'what the hell!!! If you take a piece of music such as Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", it contains a lot of complicated movements, as well as simple ones. If you add distortion to any of them - you get metal, the same can be said for any genre. For example, Victor Wooten is a very tallented Jazz (fusion?) musician, and I would by no-means discredit his ability to play any genre because he is a very tallented person and is a master of his instrument.

33 years later imo Butchered At Birth is still the heaviest album of all time in my opinion.

Menfluence and Alex Walsh...if you have ever studied music you will know that it is an art and is defined by the listener/producer/viewer. Just like the old saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Music can be and is defined as any combination of sound (or even lack of sound/silence) No one can claim that one music is better than another and no one can say that a certain genre isn't music. If you consider it music that so it is.
I personally don't enjoy listening to death metal but every style feeds the artistic side of someone out there, so I accept it as good music.

did i say my life was shit? no. I couldn't be any happier right now. I'm starting bands with my friends, going to concerts, studying and working hard at school and my family is closer than ever. But there is still so much bullshit in the world. Not to me in particular, but things i see around me. i should have been clearer.

@slay3r43v3r I see what your saying but mainstream and popular are two different things.
CC are perhaps one of the most popular Death metal bands and a lot of people wanna know what it's about. Plus, the metal fraternity is larger than you think. Their 5 million views is what keeps them alive and they respect each and every one of us. Their music hasn't changed and as such, will never be played on the likes of Radio One and as such, can never be mainstream.
Either way, we love em still. :-)

@Kundji12 while this is true to an extent of many people there are also alot of people who genuinely like pop and rap because of their personal taste no matter how bad you find it. i think this opinion originates because of ones personal distaste for rap and pop but also mixed in with the fact that pop and rap are so commercial and most pop and rap artists because recognized icons while there are alot of heavy metal bands that work hard and create good music but become nothing more than obscure

Death metal doesn't always have to be about evil things either. You don't even need lyrics like that to get your "rage fix". It can be about epic, powerful and dangerous things too. Such as a song about black holes, supernovas, planets colliding, some large dinosaurs doing whatever or about large carriers. The carrier for example doesn't even need to be in battle. Just describing it is epic too. Anything though and "manly", really. Maybe even about beauty that has a powerful effect on you. Such as a the journey of a photon from the core of the sun to your retina to your visual cortex.

I think you're confusing two genres. Planets coliding and all of that space-y shit is more deathcore-ish than death metal-ish ;)

As a fellow Buffalonian; why does his accent sound so familiar, yet so Walken-esque at the same time?
