I just had spine surgery on weds. I cant explain how extremely painful the first 2 nights are. Its almost impossible to even move an inch on the bed or roll off on your own. Even with help the pain is excruciating. I had a microdiscectomy.
You should create a series of videos for hospitals to purchase and play prior to being released from the hospital. Ironically many of these things have NEVER been discussed at ant of my 4 spine surgeries. I would be willing to pay $10 out of pocket for the video just to have success just once. I never received a follow up care booklet, phamplet, or any literature. My surgeon ONLY says limitations verbally "lift equal to a gallon of milk or less". Guess he assumes he might be caught up in a disability case (obviously opposes people who would need it). Also I am not involved in a lawsuit or employee comp case, so I don't understand why he refuses to be a tad more informative. I have been told non of restrictions from the video? (3rd lumbar fusion with 2 Failed Back Surgeries) Why? Yet when asking my Spine Surgeon straight out my limitations are or what to avoid his response is "I need to go check your chart, have an emergency as he directly finds it necessary to cut my release and follow-ups short, etc. Basically he says anything to avoid answering that specific question after EVERY surgery I've had with him. Also he never states anything in his notes or dictations. Seems crazy to me?! Possibly he is not ethical for lack of better words. Also he is the only Spine surgeon within a 3 hr round-trip from me. My choice of a different Physician is nearly impossible since I can not drive due to "severe" Narcolepsy. Add chronic 24 he non-stop pain & lack of sleep - makes a Narcolepsy person somewhat similar to an intoxicated driver as far as being able to drive safely . I do not have any family in the area nor have made any friends since we moved to this small rural town. Public transportation is unheard of in the area. I spoke to my Pastor and even he posted a need for ride assistance in the bulletin 4 wks (I am willing to pay someone), also advertised in the local newspaper and on Facebook Sale, Swap, Employment sites - did not get 1 response. Rural Healthcare access in America is pitiful. No Spine Doctor even has a 1x a month clinic at the local 5 Hospitals 30 min in ea direction. That profession must have a shortage or not want to serve small rural areas? Anyone thinking of moving to Podunk Nowhere with health issues - DON'T DO IT you will regret the decision. Something simple like these folks offer wpuld really save multiple surgeries and help one heal properly. Kudos to you for taking your time to produce this video informing those of us who lack a decent Doctor.
I had spinal fusion surgery around two months ago and right now I can say it was the WORST decision I ever made! I'd had back problems for years. It would get bad then get better. I thought having surgery was the best choice! WRONG! Right now my back is as bad or worse than it was before surgery! Now they want me to come back and let them cut on me again! I don't see how I can do it! I might end up worse shape!
Sister lol, well surgery lasted 10 hours, had complications during surgery plus lost a lot of blood. Also still in P.T. about 4 months know and im partial disabled from the injuries . Still handling in their
Is this for any kind of spinal surgery? What about laminectomy? For how long does someone need a helper/ nurse/ provider after a laminectomy with fusion? I live by myself.
It depends on how your recovery goes, your age, etc. Ask your doctor to order home health. Stock up on frozen dinners. Make sure you have a walker to support you at home.
I don’t have pain from my back yet but it’s so annoying just watching my back fold in on itself. It’s not even physical just mental. I’ve been thinking about getting this, but I don’t even know if it’s possible to ever bend your back after it. From what it looks like no and that seems like shitty living. Genuinely. I have two fused vertebras already and they’re always stiff and sore. I cant ever crack my back successfully and that’s most of the reason I don’t want it. But I have so bad of a curve that I’ll probably need to get it. Please tell me there is some sort of alternative or maybe I can still move my back. I don’t want a stiff back on top of having Spina Bifida. I get a new diagnosis physical or mental each year I’m sick of this.
It sounds like you have a rough time of things. I'm so sorry you have to go through this and hope things settle down. I'm getting a fusion done in two weeks and I'm a bit nervous about it. Peace!
@@prodigyxwho2933 It actually went great. The first two weeks are the worst as far as pain goes but it still wasn't horrible. It was kinda hard to remember not to twist from getting out of bed. I would recommend a bidet because when you try to wipe your tail it makes you twist. Not too many people can wipe without twisting. Amazon has them for about 40 bucks. I gave up pain pills after week 4 because its a pain in the butt trying to get a refill. They give you about 5 days worth and then you have to call your doctor for more then chase down a prescription then go to the drug store. Its ridiculous that they won't give a months supply to begin with. All I take now is low dose Flexiril. I could stand something like Tylenol 3 after I go to the grocery store but I'm not even going to ask for it lol. Anyway, I started physical therapy a couple of days ago and its just some streeeetching exercises. 😁 The most important thing is that my pain from L4and L5 is GONE! Its wonderful. Good luck to everyone!
I had a spinal surgery about 2 months ago, seen a lot of doctors and nurses, how come no body teach me any of this!? No one told me to avoid twisting and bending at all cost... No one teach me how to get dress, getting in and out of the car etc... And my doctor gave me a carrying weight limit of 5kg that's 11 pound... I am having difficulty putting pants and socks on... What the hell
I am 30 yrs old. And i have compression fracture in l1 and l2 vertebrae.. Due to road accident. Now it is 43 rd day today after accident..doctor told m to take complete bed rest... Can i start walking now..?
So disco dancing is out of the question? I'm getting out of shape and I have been forgetting the routine that I have been working on for months now. I can't do this.
If a healthy person can perform this movements without bending, how does a person do them after surgery? Also, you don’t mention how to dress if you previously had knee surgery. We with previous total knee replacements can’t have the same range of motion as the model. There’s no way I could put my socks and shoes on

I just had a spinal laminectomy of L4/L5 with posterior fusion. I had it done on the 8th of this month September. I live in St. Helen Michigan and I went to Beaumont hospital in Royal Oak. The neurosurgeon was absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much Dr. Perez-Cruet.
I just had a lumbar fusion last Wednesday, the 14th. I had a cyst pressing on my sciatic nerve that was causing excruciating pain. I feel so blessed to have had the surgery and I now feel great except for the incision, but it is healing. My surgeon gave me plenty of postop instructions and I am trying to follow them to a T. I have to wear a brace for 4 to 6 weeks, but it is worth it to not have the pain I had. I am 77 years old, and I’m waiting to enjoy the rest of my life! Also, I am blessed to have two granddaughters, ages 14 and 17, who love to come over here twice a day and help me with anything I need. ❤

I have a couple of questions and can I get an answer because no one answers and I feel as if it is one sided what is DDD called if all your disc are gone all I see every where are referrals to hospitals that only talk about one or two disc being gone and no mention of if all disc are gone? I’ve been told by a surgeon he wouldn’t touch my spine because he’d paralyze me so I thanked the troubled surgeon and shook his han for honesty then I went for a second opinion the second was telling me the first didn’t know what he was taking about sounding so unprofessional. I stopped him before being treated and asked him for an mri and told him if he saw that surgery was possible I’d agree and have him do surgery but two weeks later he looked at my mri results and apologized and asked how was I dealing with it so told him with meds for pain so he said if it works keep going NOW 18 years later taking pain meds while being monitored and two yearly visits I’ve managed to keep my job still employed at ups I’m 23 years employed and I’m happy but now with the cdc opioid issue I’ve been downsized and live in pain 20% of the time

I had my mum help me get dress and was told never cross my legs. And had no exercise to do apart from walking to the shops and back.
How is your back doing now?
It was very benefit an useful information
Thanks you ❤ 🙏
Keep in mind that insion site pain is real and it's harder to do these sometimes. Take it slower than the lady cause the insion can split open .

Or are you completely pain free now
Great video! Looking forward to my surgery and this tutorial will help with some very important maneuvers.
I just had spine surgery on weds. I cant explain how extremely painful the first 2 nights are. Its almost impossible to even move an inch on the bed or roll off on your own. Even with help the pain is excruciating. I had a microdiscectomy.
Thanks. First night was a little uncomfortable and with everyday getting better. Two weeks post feel good with some low back stiffness.

Thank u for this tips.im going for surgery next month.
How are you now brother

Great info to know. Thanks

Peace!
@@pegs1659 Please let me know how it goes! I've gotten no information from google or my doctors, so anything helps.
@@urfren6510 I will. ☺
@@pegs1659 how did it go?
FOR HOW LONG ALL THESE?
6-8 weeks
I had a spinal surgery about 2 months ago, seen a lot of doctors and nurses, how come no body teach me any of this!? No one told me to avoid twisting and bending at all cost... No one teach me how to get dress, getting in and out of the car etc... And my doctor gave me a carrying weight limit of 5kg that's 11 pound... I am having difficulty putting pants and socks on... What the hell

If a healthy person can perform this movements without bending, how does a person do them after surgery? Also, you don’t mention how to dress if you previously had knee surgery. We with previous total knee replacements can’t have the same range of motion as the model. There’s no way I could put my socks and shoes on
Is this also for Laminectomy patients i am going to have L4/L5 disc herniation surgery Kindly let me know 🙏

Who else just got a spinal fusion
Has anyone had a Orthofix Bone Growth Therapy device to help in recovery?
Can’t find part 5 to watch

Please do reply.already on analgesic and gabapentin +nor tryptilin
I’m almost 3 weeks after the same surgery I’m still in horrible pain BUT it’s better than I was going in. It took a good 2 weeks for the Lyrica ( much like gaba but it worked better for me) to start working, I’ve just gone up on that med from 75 to 150 mags. I’m looking for answers the same as you. I hope you’re much better now after 2 months, I have to tell you this has been much more painful than I’d been led to believe.
@@cathyrackowski2824 yes on 11nov I will complete 3 months post operation. Now I am much better. Doing all my work independently. Joined duty too.but that hip pain on getting up or turning on bed is still there. Mild pain but bearable. You do join a good physiotherapist. That helps in regaining strength. Take rest and be positive. All the best.
Why are doctors prescribing a joke of a drug like gabapentin? Tylenol works better than that crap. Give me something that works!
