Ive been racing pigeons for three years and just started showing interest in how to breed cause of a created blue bar pied i got and these videos are super interesting to watch and well surly help to on my goal to get a barless
I made a post about it here: www.pigeongenetics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=847#p847 It is more complicated with recessive genes, but the general process is similar. It just takes time, effort, and genetic knowledge.
How can you tell if a blue pigeon is heterozygous for recessive red? Will the birds heterozygous for recessive red have some shade of dark reddish brown tinting the blue color of their wings and neck?
I was surprised recently when RR pigeons starting hatching in my loft. I never had any red pigeons before. I thought somebody had switched out my eggs or babies or something. This year another pair had thrown out me another red, and i was very surprised. But I am very happy and pleased with the reds. Thanks for the video. 👍
I have a few res red modena pigeons but some are lighter than other. how do I select the right way for color please? I have a baby with 50% white out of 2 red parents
Some legends and expensive pigeons are reseccive red such as Lemon tea merpati, Bola mas merpati, Qiu qiu merpati, even one of them sold Rp.500 million. Beautiful colour.
Hi Adam I have been your subscriber since maney lofts shared about your channel. Since then I have watched n learned a lot from your genetics/ color pattern videos. I have been a pigeon fancier from last 18 yrs. I have almost all color birds. I just need some help regarding which needs to be paired to whom for better results. What's the way to share some pictures to you so that you can give some tips about whom to pair to whom.
@@AdamArcherPigeons Hi Adam - thank you I really appreciate your videos - not surprising people refer to recessive reds as Meulemans because the colour is rare - the chance such a pigeon is a Meuleman is no doubt very low, perhaps only the segment of chromosome linked to the recessive red gene could come from Meuleman ! Pigeon racers of course like to refer to their pigeons as this strain or that, but in reality mostly they are an undefined mix. I should add that in my profession I am used to laboratory mouse genetics where a 'strain' is not referred to as such until after 20 rounds of successive brother-sister matings which attains >99% homozygosity. Of course we don't do that with pigeons and the 'strain' bar is considerably lower.
From a pair non recessive parents that breeds recessive red babies, what might be the reason of the percentage of breeding recessive red is much much less than 25 %? (It's more like 8%) If recessive red is caused by a pair of simple autosomal recessive gene, the 1:2:1 rule should stand. Thanks in advance
This will also mean that when mating recessive red to recessive red the children will only be recessive red? If you breed just one non recessive red baby from a pair of recessive red parents, it will prove the theory is wrong.
Is it possible another recessive modifier when carried by both the recessive red parents can mask the recessive red color? Hence bred non recessive red children
Yes, some like recessive white can mask recessive red (epistasis). There is also the chance that the parents you believe to be recessive red are not. They could be ash red T-pattern, brander, or some other modifier mimicing rec red.
Hi Adam, I hope this message finds you well. I was brought up with pigeons and often wandered if you have ever crossed a red checker ( my Dad and Grandad never had any whites ), and a pure white. If you have I'd love to see one, thanks. I love watching your videos, keep up the good work X.
As always it's a great video again. I would appreciate it if you can make more videos on the grizzled gene. How we can achieve various patterns in Grizzled patterns. As in Pakistan we mainly have highflyers that carry Grizzled pattern And I want to learn about them. thanks
@@AdamArcherPigeons Thats good, i hope there will hatch a brown tiger grizzle. Thank you also on the advices on the barless project, they hatched just one this time and im pretty sure he/she is a grizzle
According to ur theory So if one of the bird is blue and dont carry any red then they cant produce any red even though one of the parent is red? I think if one of the parent is red they should be able to produce red. I have had two silver bars that got a brick red and a white so this kinda impresses me.
I have recessive red pigeons but they show lighter color in the flights and tail.I would like to breed some solid red pigeons.I understand i can do this using a black(spread) pigeon. My question is,does it matter which sex they are?I have a nice dark red male and a black hen.Can i use them for this and will this produce solid(improved) red?in the first generation?
The sex doesn't matter. Pair your recessive red to a solid black, you probably wont get red in the first generation, but if you take a black baby from this pair and pair it back to the red parent (or another recessive red), you'll start getting better quality recessive reds.
@@AdamArcherPigeons Thank you very much, something i will work on.Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.Lots of people making videos but us beginners need a simple explanation, like you do.Thanks again.
I did put a res red hen and a black cock together and the young are now about two weeks old.One black one and the other one looks like a red check but with light color flights. My aim is a complete(improved) red bird.Should i hope for a solid red in a later nest or should i use the young ones back on the parents?
Thank u sir from india i had an indian highflyer in recessive red color ,these colors r common in indian highflyer but indeed they look beautiful in complete dark red brick color.
Great video again!! I understand that recessive red is a good component for breeding almonds. But how about recessive yellow? I have a female recessive yellow and a male almond (just stipper pattern on body and proper almond on neck).
Hi Adam, great video!!! Would all of the grand parents have to have been red ? Or would it be ok if either one of the grand parents of each recessive parent as red? Tx Arun Anand
When i breed a recessive red dilute (yellow) with a black pigeon i seem to get Brow pigeons, is this a co-dominance of the two alleles or is it just expressing recessive red allele?
@@AdamArcherPigeons i have a black male paired to a yellow female, and all squabs come out brown/ red, the shades of brown can vary slightly darker slighlty lighter but all brown.

If i combine the pair of black fantail male amd white fantail female what will be the result do you have any idea?
How do you import colours only from another breed and then purify the breed back to original but with the added import colour??

A pair that produces RR should produce 25% RR on average :)
yes i believe that. my first rr pigeon mixed with a blue bar hen that came from the same line had thrown me another red

This colour looks like the colour that is often associated with the Meuleman strain, is this correct?
Yes. A lot of people (very incorrectly) think that if they see a bird this colour it must be a Meuleman.

So breeding a recessive red with an ash red or red check will not produce any recessive red pigeons?
It will only produce rec red IF the ash red happens to carry the recessive red gene.

Yes, recessive red x recessive red = only recessive red. I'm not sure what your point is? This isn't "theory", it was proven a century ago.
