Basacote 2020

Basacote® is the COMPO EXPERT brand for fully coated controlled-release fertilizers. Each fertilizer prill is evenly coated with an elastic polymer that controls water penetration and thus the dissolution of nutrients inside the coating.
After application, moisture slowly penetrates through the pores of the coating, dissolving the nutrients which then dissipate into the soil by osmosis and diffusion. The coating thickness determines the rate at which water can be absorbed into the granule, and the rate at which nutrients can diffuse.
It is designed to ensure a long-term and consistent nutrient supply for up to 16 months. For the application in substrate mixtures, horticulture, tree nurseries and plant hole fertilization.

Due to the coating the nutrient / nitrogen use efficacy (NUE) is highly increased. For example in plantations you can reduce the fertilization amount and the application runs by up to 90% compared to standard fertilization programs. That means: nearly no leaching and / or gaseous losses of nitrogen and less phosphate fixation into the soil. Due to that effect much less fertilizer needs to be produced, stored, transported and applied what has also environmental effects (e.g. reduced CO2 footprint). Further COMPO EXPERT invests a lot into R&D activities to develop biodegradable coating materials.
