  • Espresso is made by forcing hot water through finely ground coffee under pressure. Making consistently good espresso shots requeires a few things. Here I, the ChattyBarista, will show you the basics.

    I just learned that 2:1 ratio or 25 seconds is a good number. I think I’ve been short changing myself.

    Do you start timing when you pull the handle or at first “drop”?

      @@johnmurphy2642 Good question John. It's from when I pull the handle, as it takes a few seconds for the pressurized water to get through the compressed coffee.

    What does the ratio of 3 to 1 mean in terms of what you used it for?

      Thank you for asking, I mean 20 grams of ground coffee makes 60ml (approx 60g) of espresso

      Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes you can get a good shot with a more affordable machine, as long as you use quality beans, freshly ground, not too coarsely or finely ground and tamped with correct pressure
