  • How do you understand fashion? The most celebrated fashion shows can be quite confusing for many people who aren't aware of the many intricacies that this art form covers. In this video, I break down why you may not understand haute couture, avant garde, runway fashion - or high fashion - and give my own tips and tricks to to help you navigate these shows. Whether you're a seasoned fashionista or someone just getting into fashion and style, I hope you can derive some value from this video and a like and subscribe would be greatly appreciated.

I really appreciate this take and breakdown. I love fashion, but the runway shows always confused the hell outta me. You explaining it as art really spoke to me. I love art. I love art in motion. I fully get what you mean by looking at the runway shows as sculptures in motion in a way.
I had a co-worker recently tell me that all of my tops were cuter than hers. My tops are not expensive at all. Like, most are under $10 if possible. However, they caught my eye, or just made me feel happy loooking at them. Now, not every single piece ended up working out, but the ones that did are great because I feel great in them. So it's a mix of the top being nice, but also me feeling nice, and then people think I look good when in reality I think I look comfortable, confident, happy, and expressive.
That's why I enjoy fashion. I would love to afford more expensive stuff, but the point is that you can find style and be unique even from a place that sells something mass produced. Just find what makes you smile or happy when you see it, and pair it with some personal, unique accessories like bangles, necklaces, scarves, etc....

Fashion is not limited to just clothing and art; it profoundly influences human behavior and emotions. Fashion should serve as a vibrant representation of the living individual, embodying clarity and conveying an authentic message. It stands as a unique expression of one's inner self, with creativity having boundless potential and originating from within.
Trends, on the other hand, are societal standards of influence on a broader scale. When we compare contemporary fashion to that of the 1950s, we can discern a stark contrast in terms of integrity and modesty. Present-day trends sometimes appear to veer towards something less admirable, featuring torn or stained clothing, unconventional pairings such as men's wear on women and vice versa - elements that seem disconnected from the world of the living.

This is so insightful, Jeff! ✨❤️ I do this too when I was young , I would judge a collection straight away but now I check reviews, fashion films if any, show notes, social media (lucky we have heaps of avenues now) and it helps me understand the designer’s intention more. I believe with an open mind, we can become more sensitive and also aware of what is happening (not just in fashown but life I guess)

truer words have never been spoken, i guess the main reason high fashion is so daunting initially is because it's so bizarre, but reading into it helps slowly piece things together

Wow. This was the best video I this topic that I have seen! Great tips for the casual fashion fan (and not-so-casual fans) for how we can get more out of high fashion. I particularly liked the tips about reading the notes on the pieces - and on trusting your gut feelings.
I LOVE some couture fashion pieces - but sometimes I just don't get it. This was such helpful advice on getting SOMEthing out of each show. Great job!! 👏👏👏

I totally agree that because it's artistic it's easy for people to be super pretentious and vague and kinda meaningless when getting lost in the pretentiosity

I’m gonna comment before watching, and hopefully it has some kind of understanding.
So when it comes to fashion, like so many things today it has developed subcultures, trends or fads, and I’d believe as one, “not in the know”, that lots of ways to dress have just disappeared?
Like I’m very sure that runway shows are just rich people flexing in some way or is actually an artist showing creativity, despite the outfits functional wear being almost zero percent.
But I don’t get why people make a big deal out of fashion brands? (I grew up poor, and was raised to either value and be grateful for what I had or make something up, to which I as a kid forgot about it or moved into another shiny idea), but another thing that I wonder about is besides societal pressure is why the clothes from brands like supreme or whatever not seem to have too many differences between their clothing “models, I like tech so idk the word for it but if yk, yk)
Ok ima watch it bye thank you!
