You are absolutely right, but realistically you cannot compare Studio One with Cubase, because it is like comparing the knowledge of grandfather and grandson.
former hardcore S1 user here. Now back on... Cubase 13. And finally very happy! Now Cubase has all the things that S1 has (drag/drop in all directions, bezier curves, more inserts, event effects, ARA, mono-stereo switching, simple browser, etc. etc.) And I really love Cubase fast Samplertrack, flexible Mix Console (the best on the daw market, I must say), can´t live without Control Room, and the very professional (!) onstock effects, creative sample content, and the VSTis are wayyy better than the rudimentary uninspiring stuff in S1. Cubase big midi editor and chord stuff is also much better. very flexible rendering options!! auto alignment! multiple marker tracks! great integration of Vari Audio! Halion Sonic with 5 GB pro orchestral sounds!..and so on... Highly recommend. great times. ♥
Cubase Pro 13 is my daily driver since 1998..!! I've tried every other daw and always wind up back home in Cubase..💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Subscribed...I've been debating the same change and I have both, but I've had a lot of issues setting up my hardware - keyboards and controllers like the Atom SQ, etc.- in Cubase, and often finding the equivalents of S1 UI require tons of searching and head scratching. Otherwise, the Cubase 13 UI is nice.
Added an hw synth a couple of weeks ago and after that couldn't get sound. I know there are faqs that will help, but I'd spent so much time on it I had to give up for a bit and will get back to it later. This is on me, not the product, but I look forward to seeing how you navigate the differences and will appreciate what you have to show, so please keep it coming! Thanks.
I use midi remote in cubase 13 and my workflow is great. Also, the cubase community is amazing, you can learn anything there to improve your own workflow.
cubase is nuts for instrument stuff, midi etc... but its workflow is ass compared to studio one. mixing editing recording in studio one is EASY
I have been a studio one user for years, and I think you are right, I love working in it but I only use third party tools and effects from other companies, for example variaudio in Cubase is incredible, and the built-in vocal alignment tool too. in studio one we don't have that
I’ve got a video coming out tomorrow mentioning a few of those things. I will always say good things about Studio one I’ve just hit the limitations for myself and my workflow.
You can use Groove Agent, Padshop, Retrologue and Halyon is S1.
DP is still my main DAW. It's got good stock plug-ins and a decent starter UVI library they packed as the MOTU Soundbank. Will need to supplement with an orchestral library, and I got the IKM Miroslav Philharmonik 2 as the cheap solution. I've since added NI Komplete CE and EWHO Opus, UVI Falcon and Arturia Pigments. However, w/in the last year I hedged myself with Nuendo. Wow!
Ironically (to me), Cubase utilizes the efficiency and performance cores of Apple Silicon chips. Logic only utilizes the performance cores, with the efficiency cores remaining idle. C'mon Apple !!
Great input and valid comments. I completely agree about the plugins. They do not impress. And - maybe it is just me - but S1 seem to be somewhat unstable??? It is making me move toward Cubase after several years as a Studio One fan. I hate having to start over "dating" other daws to find the right one.
Im thinking of switching to cubase as used the very first version back in the 80s on Atari ST but not since. What is the stability like on Windows 11. Studio One is like a wobbly jelly for reliability and just fed up with wasting time. Some outboard gear makes it hang on start up (Presonus own Atom SQ), plugging in a usb mid session makes it freeze up. Multiple systems, different versions and multiple installs always the same. S1 continues instead to focus on delivering features that are not useful to me as a user who now has amassed at lot of midi gear.. Thanks so much Josh for the comparison.
until recently I was working with the S1 but after the merger of PreSonus and Fender something started to go wrong and I switched to Cubase 13 Pro and here everything is super prepared to work on music production, exactly as I need it
Which cubase works better on mac or pc?
i had problems getting upgrade from older versions of cubase,,cubase has had good updates..but studio one has the best workflow..i use 3 party alot for sounds and mixing :)
I wish Presonus would hire or buy a whole company to redesign the stock plug-ins inside of S1. Until that day I'm sticking with my 3rd party also. lol
I appreciate the video. I was actually looking at moving away from Studio One due it looking more and more (in my opinion only, of course) like it's going to become a subscription model like Pro Tools in the not too distant future. I mean it already has lots of subscription elements (voluntary, of course). I'm just not a fan of that. Plus I learnt originally on Cubase back in the day before then moving to Pro Tools, then Reaper, then Studio One. But I'm finding I've done the least amount of work in Studio One. Which isn't saying anything about Studio One being good or not, it's just obviously not quite right for me. And all the pluses you've given Cubase 13 Pro have definitely given me a lot to think about and perhaps, at the very least, demo Cubase now.

Thank you for the kind words! I'd say check out the 60 day trial of Cubase PRO. I did that and have been so happy working in Cubase Pro 13 that I didn't even wait for the trial to expire. I purchased it and am switching completely to Cubase. It slightly reminds me of Pro Tools in the way it routes audio (one of the only things I've always liked about PT) but has great tools for actually producing and writing music.
The best is Nuendo 13 Cubase's big brother, I swith to Nuendo months ago and it's a monster!

As Reaper user i was impressed by Cubase 13 and it's features, not my workflow tho but it is very nice DAW, i agree that in terms of stock plugins it's one of the best. I heard that PreSonus is pretty slow on features\fixes for Studio One, is it true?
I can agree on the slow to features part. But I personally have not had many Studio One issues that weren't fixed pretty quickly. The only issue I currently have is that when I play a session with more than a few tracks, sometimes all of the tracks will not play back right away. It's very strange and has been a problem for a while now. Still doesn't crash tho. 🤷🏻♂️

I have not used so many Daw:s. My first DAW..... (no it was not a DAW it was just a sequenser) was Cakewalk for DOS. Loved it and used it for many years, and the last one was Sonar. Then I switched to Cubase, a bit of a struggle in the beginning, but now I really like it. The absolute best things with Cubase is the mixer. Never seen any DAW with this feature like snapshot, undo list and zoom. Realy like that. Also like the workflow, easy to understand, Tried S1 once but gave up. I think that is why we like different DAW:s. The workflow, if you don´t like it. you go to another DAW.

I do agree some of Studio Ones plugs are not up to par. I do use Pro EQ and the Compressor. open Air Reverb is great and the Analog
Delay. i have a number of UAD Plugs on PcIe cards are I really like. Anyway I am looking forward to the Cubase 13 demo. Have you done a Logic Pro

I felt the same way about Cubase when I tried 12. To much menu diving compared to Studio Ones drag and drop. I'm planning a review of Cubase 13 and a comparison video matching Studio One , Cubase and Logic. I'm making a Pro's And Cons list for that video. All great DAWs IMO
You guys can change the key command believe me ones you add your command keys you want in Cubase it became the most faster workflow daw but I get what you guys means, also people most of the time claim hey Cubase don't have this and this well much of the time is that cubase have so and so much features that some are hide so I really recommend everyone to read or search enough information about all the features before making any review, also logic key commands are available in cubase to, I know why a lot of people prefer personus studio one, honestly is an amazing daw and really complete have a lot of what cubase have but in a easy default way I always call it the small son of cubase but the reason I still and stay with Cubase is because if you change the key commands and know every feature you will see it became in my opinion way more fast workflow than studio one and also have a lot of features that studio one is lacking right now, not even talking about the stock plugins and the plugins high in any track like midi modified or best design for people who love fl studio channel rack, honestly cubase i think is the best but like a said i know how hard it is at the beginning just take time to find and know any stuff, however even if I think cubase is superior I think studio one is the future of daw is fender did not ruin it guys studio one is on versión 6 and is advancing better than ever with features that years ago nobody will imagine today that it will be compared with cubase back a few years ago was just a new daw that nobudy expect much of it. I love Cubase and I know studio one just copy much of Cubase but believe me cubase is good but really expensive and Is good that something really similar to cubase like studio one is becoming more accessible to people, big respect for studio one users is a daw with a lot of future

I'll always have a soft-spot for Cubase. It's too expensive for me because I'm just getting into living room recording. But a friend of mine uses it professionally, I used Cubasis for MIDI stuff many years back, and Steinberg's office is in my home town. I even visited the office some weeks ago. I never tried Cubase 13, but from what I've seen it looks like a really well-rounded DAW. And I'll never forget that Steinberg gave us VST!
I played around with GarageBand, Reaper and Waveform Free in the recent weeks, not sure what I'll stick with in the end, or if I should try more options. I currently use only macOS, but I don't like to be restricted to it. I'm not a Windows guy, but Reaper and Waveform also run on Linux, that's awesome. Reaper is very powerful, fast and stable, but also very convoluted. Waveform has a really nice workflow, but it feels a bit sluggish. If I could afford it, I'd gravitate towards Cubase, but it looks like every version below Artist would be too limited for me.

I can say that I know very well and use all daws over there, Logic, Cubase, S1, Pro Tools…
The most complete and full of feature in every task and working details is Cubase 13, in this last version the perfection level is very high.
Halion Sonic is almost like getting a Yamaha Motif or Montage, Groove Agent is very close to having a MPC and just think VST comes from Steinberg, the EQ in Cubase (one of them) is a Pultec, so yeah Cubase is amazing for some very good reasons. And it actually takes advantage of the performance cores in M2 where many DAWs do not.
I've made my decision of what my 2nd DAW will be. It's going to be Cubase 13 Elements then later upgrade to Cubase 13 Artist, The effects, the new UI, Iconica Sketch, Etc.
Studio One, 3 licenses per user, multi monitor capable, cheaper, easier to install, use, license, upgrade, smaller footprint vs cubase massive libraries and now sporting Dolby Atmos am good.
Studio One also has Dolby atmos built in came in 6.5 i think, and works extremely well

True its great, but Ableton 12 is fantastic for knocking up ideas in, different DAWS do different things, and with Cubase you can mod all its key commands to act similar to other DAWS so its easy switching between Cubase and a 2nd DAW .
I switched to Cubase in late 2022 and realized how far Studio One fell short in terms of MIDI editing features alone. The price tag of Cubase always made me wary, but a sale on a crossgrade got me in the door. Now I'm hooked. Studio One was a good DAW for me, but yes, the instruments are mostly just useful for sketching out ideas, not production. The company's philosophy and buyout by Fender also concerned me, as they were starting to push the subscription model while pushing buyers aside by offering less incentives. I took the hint and left.
The only things that lack cubase is his UI and workflow, is so technical that you can feel fustrated sometimes, but Cubase is really the best DAW on the market, you don't need anything more that they give to you in his stocks plugins because they are amazing. In the last 3 versions of cubase the focus on improving the workflow a lot and if they continue that path, well Logic and Studio One need to do some reseonable updates.
I’m honestly having fun using Cubase the past couple of days. I can see why so many composers use it. Lots of great tools for making music.
C13 really made a LOT of meaningful workflow improvements over C12.

I fall into that category. 🤓 I personally think Cubase has a better over all workflow and some really cool features I've already made a part of my songwriting process. My fab filter plugs will still get used regularly but it's really nice to reach for a stock plug-in and be pretty sure it's going to work for what I need. 😁

I initially hated Cubase, but it has definitely become my go to DAW.
I tested Cubase 13 PRO and seemingly there are some very basic usability issues with Cubase that really does not make any sense. Like simply selecting few tracks and grouping them into folder with bus .... Wait a minute YOU need to run a Macro to do it. This is so easy in other daw like Studio One or Logic or Ableton.. You should check Ableton Live .. a lot more usable than Cubase 13 IMO. Well I have 7 DAWs and mostly use Ableton Live.
Am a user of Studio one 6 also a user of cubase 13 including Nuendo 13. None of the three can deliver the taste or the tone of virtual instruments i use for my production, so i choose to rely on third party virtual instruments, like superior drummer 3 , Arturia products, kontackt library virtual instruments and many others. For studio one , the user friendly is top notch, anyone new to the industry can use studio one, for post production Nuendo is the king, while cubase 13 has its own advantage based on the taste of the user in terms of work flow. My submission is to stick to any Daw that brings out the best in you. It ls not all about the daw or gears but the man behind them. Am not a user of FL studio but many of the hit Afrobeats/ songs we listen to all over the world today are mix from FL studio. No one will ask you about the daw you use to produce a Hit song. I'm very tempted to switch back to Cubase. I moved to Studio One Pro in 2017 because it was cheaper and more user-friendly. I don't use the stock non-VST instruments as they don't inspire me. Impact XT sounds awful compared with GrooveAgent; Halion Sonic has better drum kits than Impact XT. Melodyne might be "integrated" into S1, but it doesn't work like the rest of the DAW; VariAudio is on par with Melodyne Assistant (whereas S1 only has the basic Essential version). Cubase 13 Pro costs more than S1 Pro 6.5, but it's loaded with better instruments, more functionality and more usable sounds.
Exactly... same for me: I used to use Cubase. then I moved to S1. now back to: Cubase 12/13. So much has happened in the last updates!! Cubase now has all the functions that made S1 great (Bezier curves, Event effects, more inserts, simple browser, track pictures, ARA...(I prefer the better Varia Audio integration) Except that Cubase offers much more... Can't live without the fast sampler track, Control Room, the inspiring sample content, better onstock effects, better VSTis... And Cubase mixer is the best on the market. Highly recommend. great times.
I agree with you 100%. I love S1's workflow and it's integration with Melodyne BUT, Cubase has a lot going for it in the way of stock plugs and Hallion Sonic paired with Groove Agent destroys Studio One's virtual instruments. IMO
Buy all the ones you want. I use Ableton 12 and Cubase pro 13, sometimes i work in Ableton sometimes in Cubase, i like knowing both and using both, people into guitars have all sorts of guitars, people who wan cars have all sorts of cars............
If you could own an SUV and a sports car for weekends, then go buy them. These Daws are $500 a pop then you just upgrade every 2 years, its minimal outlay, learn a couple and interchange them, stay fresh.

I absolutely agree. People comment all the time on my DAW journey. I always tell them..... It's ok to learn and use more than one. I also find myself being more creative depending on which DAW and mood I'm in. Same reason I like having more than one guitar. 🤷🏻♂️

Im a 12 y logic user just got cubase 13, and yes I agree, cubase 13 is very good, but logic has still better instruments, loops and samples, the sampler, drum kit designer and also auto sampler...I can sample any hardware synth sound and use it in logic...regards

...haha, but yes there's no such thing as perfect daw, I have installed pro tools theme and logic colorizer app and omg logic looks amazing...in 90 percent time i use logic but cubase 13 is my second daw co's logic is much more stable than cubase..it rarely crashes, but just like you I like to experiment...regards and best wishes@@joshuabutlermusic
You can pull all logic sample from Cubase media bay, and HALion was autosomal

Plus all of this is searchable and presetable
Cubase 13 is just full of bugs ATM, but maybe version 13.0.70 will actually be useable? Still loving S1 for anything else than plugins, and I bought my dream plugins seperately anyway, which allows me to use them in any DAW. I agree S1 plugins are not as good, though I quite liked the new EQ and the limiter plugins in S1 though (it's far from being all bad).
Just Wait for future mini updates of 13 that came out a few months only, I use to found 12 really buggy when first came out but as soon they still adding update is now really stable it will happen the same with 13 also don't forget to Everytime it crash when you open the daw again there's an option that Said send to Steinberg you should press it and send it because that mean that they will still working on fixing the stability of that version with small updates all over the year until next version came out
Been using Cubase for many decades. I do have and seldom use Studio one. First off. Studio one is amazingly resourceful in relation to CPU usage. Cubase isn't. I done a test between the two. After loading louds of plugins, reverbs, compressors and filters onto channels, really pilled them up. Including big hungry VST's. Cubase couldn't manage no way as many as Studio one. Long after Cubase stopped working. Studio one wanted more and more till I got bored and finished up. And I am talking about a powerful computer. no joke business. More used to Cubase though, as I use it the most. For me, it's mostly about work flow and fluency.
I jus stop playing wit myself and got Nuendo (mind you i cashed out for it even though i got cracked😂)

Studio One has mid-side big time. Use it all the time and the modular audio routing is pretty flexible and gives you mid side for EVERY plugin. Bummer, I really like the included samples. I also really like the stock plugins for effects and for mixing. And also mastering. What's there not to like? They don't sound crappy at all. And well more expensive plugins don't make you a better musician or mixing engineer ;) I give you props on the included synths though ... they are ... hmm, maybe fine. S1 is definitely not the "Honda Civic"of daws. Cubase is nice. But come one in order for the niceness you have to pay so much because everything is extra that S1 just has included at a pretty great quality. Use Ableton Live for a while which is more expensive than S1 and is so crappy and missing so many basic features when it comes to anything more than jamming with clips.
I tried Ableton and agree with you 100%. WAY to limited for myself. It was great until I tried to actually record my guitar...... then it fell apart. lol I'm curious to see how everyone reacts to the new 6.6 update that require you to have a subscription in order to get the new virtual instrument they released. Someone also told me you can't buy the drum and sample packs individually anymore...... Not a great look for Presonus.
I’m a Nuendo user. I’ve been using Nuendo since Nuendo 4 now I’m up to Nuendo Pro 13. Has the same features as Cubase but comes with a lot more feature for sound design, gaming and film. I tried Logic for a while and it was a too compact feeling, like I was in a tiny room trying to create. I tried STUDIO 1 and it felt like a deluxe version of Cubase. Wasn’t enough feature for me. It was seriously lacking feature that Cubase has, not comparing it to Nuendo 13 which is on another level. I see a lot of RUclips video out here that compare daws and they never give Cubase their just do. You can do anything in Cubase, I mean any and everything if you know what you’re doing. Think Cubase separate beat makers from the musicians that actually play instruments. That’s probably why Cubase don’t get their just do.
Well said, Being a musician also, I find the Abletons of the world are a bit to "niche" towards beatmakers. Don't get me wrong I like Ableton and I love making beats. But when I switch to "musician mode" and want to track some guitar parts, I can tell instantly who they had in mind when they coded the DAW. And it wasn't people who record traditional instruments. lol P.S I downloaded the demo of Nuendo yesterday. 🤓

I'd love to try logic on PC. I'm not a Mac guy. But I think Cubase is the best tradeoff for MIDI + Audio editing / Composition / Customization / VSTi + VST Fx / Logical Editor / built-in effects
I absolutely agree. I've got a friend who has one of the most popular RUclips channels for Logic Pro. He even says if he were on a PC he would go with Cubase all day.

I use all the DAWs (except PT) because I can and they all offer something unique. Absolutely no perfect DAW. Cubase/Nuendo is very powerful. Studio One is fast. Ableton is ultra creative. Bitwig is a cool blend. Reason is super fun. Logic is Mac awesome. FL is candy. LUNA is analog goodness

I tried studio 1 for a couple weeks. I agree with the studio one instruments and effects. They sound bland, uninspiring, and that matters.
Sir. DAW is not about its virtual instruments, it's about comfort and UI, and in those specs, studio one is BY FAR the best Daw.
Is a bad take because the don't sell just the Comfort and UI, the sell stock plugins, effects and features and you hav to consider that when buying a DAW, if not everybody should just use reaper LMAO.
It can be about the virtual instruments, especially when stock daw instrument’s are usually more efficient on cpu.
S1 is not by far the best daw (Even though it’s one of my faves) Cubase has more features (although I find S1 easier to use) Cubase also has better stock instruments among many other things
I prefer using Ableton when writing and S1 when mixing. S1 has a long way to go with midi effects and instrument’s compared to Ableton/Cubase/Bitwig/Logic/Fl Studio.
S1 is a great DAW. If you want great virtual instruments and a great audio editor as well, you will end up paying more than for Cubase.
Nonsense... Cubase has now all the great features from S1 and same workflow included dragdrop. Cubase GUI is much better than the flat tiny S1 GUI. Cubase has way better rendering options, the best mixer, Control room, Sampler Track, multiple markers and cyvle markers, way better creative content and better stock plugins and so on. (great pro stock plugins is why Logic is so popular)
I dont need a separate mastering project and I dont need this stack plugin. Presonus is only stealing features from other daws. S1 updates are mostly full oft Cubase features. Then you can use the original.

I stopped watching the video when you said that Logic is the best DAW on paper. You can't be serious. I used Logic from 2009 to 2014 but then switched to Studio One which is far better than Logic. Logic is missing many features. You can't even search for plugins within Logic. Lol. I would agree that Cubase/Nuendo is the best all around DAW. Nuendo is my #1 and Studio One is my #2.
I’m testing out Nuendo currently. I’m pretty much sold on Cubase Pro after using it for the past two weeks. But steinberg have the trial available for Nuendo so I figured why not try them both out before I buy one. 🤷🏼♂️ lol
Nuendo is Cubase + some post production focused tools (and a useful headphone match plugin). Used S1 for years, also a bit of Pro Tools and Bitwig, then Cubase, settled on Nuendo.
Cubase hands down! And Studio One is cat food anyways, since Fender‘s abusive subscription business model.
My first DAW was Steinberg PRO 24 on the ATARI 1040ST....I than switched to Emagic Logic for audio than back to Cubase, Ableton, FL Studio and STUDIO ONE 2.6, which was the absolute beast....however something changed after Stufio One 3 came out. The biggest problem I have with Stufio One is the GLOBAL quantise (swing) option that Cubase and Logic has. So here is my opinion....The best sound by far FL Studio...The best Audio sync to grid is Ableton. The best Video and Mastering is Studio One. The best crash test dummy is Logic, and now Im curiouse about this Cubase 13 you speak of. Is it working fast on MAC ?
If you love music, pounce on your musical ideas - _now!_ Use whichever tools are set up and available to you, _now._ Otherwise, you sacrifice... The Now, and you become a constructor/manipulator, rather than a creator.

And you can REALLY tell by some of the workflow similarities. I have to say, so-far Cubase has me impressed.
